Naylor dropped a bombshell. โBaillieโs getting married. And guess who the lucky spouse is? That wealthy woman we ran into at the golf club.โ
Ivy blurted out, โHeโs getting married?โ
โYeah, what else would you call it?โ Naylorโs smirk was loaded with meaning. โHeโs definitely not the one wearing the pants in that relationship.โ
Ivy caught on and shrugged. โWell, good for him, honestly. Marrying into money is probably the best outcome he could hope for.โ
After all, aside from his youth, good looks, and a decent physique, Baillie didnโt have much else going for him.
Even his character was questionable at best.
The fact that this rich woman had taken a liking to him was nothing short of a stroke of luck.
Jamison interjected, โIvy has nothing to do with the Windsors anymore. None of this concerns her.โ
โOh, but it does,โ Naylor countered. โYour wife still runs Windsor Holdings. If Baillie cozies up to his sugar mama and gets his hands on her cash, heโll be plotting to win Windsor Holdings back in no time.โ That was the real reason Naylor had decided to bring up the subject.
The Windsors always did things with an agenda. If Baillie wasnโt plotting something, no way would he swallow his pride and โmarryโ a woman old enough to be his aunt.
Ivy just laughed. โWindsor Holdings doesnโt mean anything to me anymore. If they want it, let them have it.โ
Sheโd even been worried no one would want to take that hot potato off her hands.
Emma was gone, her revenge complete.
The hurt the Windsor family had caused herโsheโd paid it all back in full these past months.
The past was smoke, drifting away with the wind.
As long as the Windsors left her alone, she had no desire to keep fighting them.
She had so many more meaningful things to do with her life.
Chapter o
After the conversation, Ivy didnโt give it another thought.
Until the Windsor family actually sent her a wedding invitation.
She stared at the glossy photo of the couple on the cardโBaillie looking dashing, his bride elegantโand couldnโt help but sigh.
โHeโs just like Emma, willing to sacrifice anything, even himself, to get what he wants.โ
Jamison wrapped his arms around her from behind, glanced at the invitation, and suddenly said, โWhoever did their wedding photos is good. Once youโre feeling better, maybe we should get a set done too.โ
Ivy turned to face him. โYouโre planning to have a wedding?โ
โEventually, sure.โ He gazed at her, his eyes lingering on her delicate features, and Ivy could sense his mind drifting elsewhere.
But before he could lean in for a kiss, she had already dodged out of his embrace, quick as a cat.
โKeep your distance,โ she teased, giving him a warning look.
Jamison just grinned, undeterred. โYou really should think about the wedding.โ
He hadnโt cared much about it beforeโheโd always left the choice up to her, ceremony or not.
But now, with her returning to work, shining in the heart of the city and surrounded by business elites, he couldnโt help but feel the wedding needed to happenโsomething big, something official.
He quickly changed his pitch. โThe last time our family celebrated anything was when Hal was born. Itโs been far too quiet for years. Maybe a little happiness would do us all some goodโmaybe even help your grandmother feel better.โ
He looked at her with a gentle smile.
Ivy rolled her eyes. โDonโt try to wrap up your jealousy in pretty words. I know exactly why you want that wedding.โ
Dr. Ludwig, standing nearby, just coughed awkwardly.
Ivy tossed the invitation aside and drawled, โNot going. Total waste of time.โ
โFine, we wonโt go.โ
Chapter 695
The day before Ivy was discharged, she got an unexpected visitor.
Mr. Shaw, whoโd mentioned several times that he wanted to check in on her, finally arrived at the hospital.
He called just minutes before showing up. He explained that heโd had a client meeting nearby and figured heโd stop in to see how she was doing, bringing his assistant along.
With him going out of his way, Ivy felt it would be rude to refuse.
After she hung up, she considered telling Jamison, but when she called, he didnโt answer. Clearly, he was busy.
Not long after, Edmond and his assistant showed up.
Ivy was well enough to get out of bed on her own, but she didnโt want to come across as too eager or friendly, so she stayed propped up in bed as they entered.
Edmond walked in carrying a bouquet of blue tulips, his assistant holding a fruit basket.
โIvy, I wasnโt sure what to bring, but these blue tulips seemed perfectโcalm and elegant, just like you. Wishing you a speedy recovery.โ
She couldnโt help but think of Jamisonโheโd once transferred her millions without a second thought, but heโd never actually bought her flowers.
Funny, after all these years, it was her soonโtoโbe boss who brought her a bouquet.
Her first thought was that if Jamison found out, heโd be green with envy.
โThank you, Mr. Shaw, thatโs very kind of you.โ She smiled but didnโt reach for the flowers, instead glancing at the nurse nearby.
The nurse understood right away, stepping forward to place the bouquet on the coffee table.
Ivy invited them to sit and asked the nurse to bring tea.
Edmond was just as polite, โNo need to fuss. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Itโs good to see youโre recovering well.โ
โIโm being discharged tomorrow,โ she replied.
โReally? So, are you still planning to start your internship with us before the new year?โ Edmondโs question was all business, and it was clear he genuinely admired Ivyโs abilities.
