Chapter 540:
Aliciaโs voice turned icy. โMr. Langstaff gave me his jacket because I was drenched. Had I not accepted it, I would have been exposed. Is that what you wanted?โ
His expression darkened. โSo, did he see anything?โ
Alicia, intent on provoking him but cautious of overstepping, swallowed her words. โNo. Mr. Langstaff is a gentleman, unlike you, who seems to enjoy invading personal space.โ
The repeated mention of โMr. Langstaffโ grated on Cadenโs nerves. โThatโs enough. His sharesโpull them out. Cut all ties with him, effective immediately.โ
Aliciaโs eyes flashed with frustration. โWhat are you thinking, Caden? You were gone in Terriland for nine days, and Corey deliberately targeted you. Blake and I had to manage everything together. Heโs been working tirelessly, running the gallery and handling everything else. And now, over a jacket, you want to cut him off? How could you be so unreasonable?โ
Cadenโs expression remained unyielding. He didnโt care about Blakeโs struggles or contributions. โIโm not being unfair,โ he said, each word deliberate. โIf you canโt do it, I will.โ
Alicia gripped his shirt, her anger flaring. โHeโs part of my team, Caden. What gives you the right to decide? Even you should know thereโs a limit to this childish jealousy.โ
His eyes darkened, his voice icy. โIโll show you exactly what gives me that right.โ
Without another word, he pulled away and strode toward the living room, reaching for his phone. Just as he was about to make a call, his uncleโs number appeared on the screen. He answered coolly, โIs it you, Benedict?โ
โI heard you came back. But why did you leave again?โ Benedictโs voice held a calculated edge.
Caden clenched his jaw. โPersonal matters. If thereโs nothing urgent, Iโm hanging up.โ
Benedict chuckled, sensing the tension. โYou sound ready to murder someone. Did you have a fight with Alicia? Over Blake, perhaps?โ
Caden was about to hang up but hesitated. โWhat exactly do you mean by that, Benedict?โ
โIโm right, arenโt I?โ Benedictโs sneer was almost audible. โDid you find Blake and Alicia together, doing more than just โworkingโ?โ
Benedict hadnโt uncovered any concrete evidence; however, his bias against Alicia clouded his judgment.
Cadenโs voice was frosty. โWhat did you see?โ
โNothing. But you should know that Blake likes her.โ He let out a harsh laugh. โLetโs not kid ourselves; itโs mutual. Even I can see that. Do you really think your girlfriend is oblivious? She enjoys the attention she gets from men. Is this the kind of woman you want by your side?โ
Cadenโs lips tightened. After a brief pause, he replied coldly, โYou donโt need to worry about my affairs. Just take care of Grandma.โ
Once he hung up, Alicia approached. She didnโt ask about Cadenโs conversation; instead, she headed straight for the bedroom. โYouโre sleeping in the guest room tonight,โ she said without glancing back.
Caden quickly caught up to her, grabbing her arm. โDid you do what I asked earlier?โ
