Chapter 534
Before dinner, Caden called. โAre you back at Joy Mansion now?โ
โYes,โ Alicia replied, updating him on the situation.
Caden focused on one point, his tone disdainful. โSo, did you go back with Blake?โ
Alicia retorted, โHeโs two years older than you. Shouldnโt you show him some respect?โ
โHeโs still my nephew! Itโs bad enough heโs trying to charm my girlfriend while Iโm away. Iโm being remarkably lenient by not scolding him.โ
Alicia, though speechless, found his reaction amusing. โIโll head home after dinner. Just donโt overthink it.โ
Cadenโs tone turned serious. โDid Benedict give you a hard time?โ
โNot really. With Ciara around, he hasnโt even spoken to me.โ
โIโll try to wrap up work early and come back.โ
Alicia sensed something was amiss. โWhatโs going on? Is the Moss family putting pressure on you again?โ
โItโs about the new batch of robots Corey released. Those influential clients are making things difficult for him,โ Caden explained. โSince the chips are linked to me, Iโm handling my part.โ
Alicia instinctively offered, โI was involved in this too. Do you need my help?โ
Caden chuckled, knowingly. He was handling the aspects involving Alicia, but felt uncertain about the modifications sheโd made. Confident in the chips he'd created, he still wanted to preempt any potential problems before they reached her.
โHey, Iโve got to go,โ Caden said. โIโll pick you up tonight.โ
A warm feeling filled Alicia. โAlright.โ But just as she savored the moment, Caden added, โAnd keep your distance from that idiot Blake.โ
Alicia fell silent.
After dinner, a tired Ciara took her medicine and went upstairs to rest. As Alicia headed downstairs, she spotted Benedict in the living room.
โMs. Bennett, can we talk?โ
Aliciaโs heart pounded. She wished sheโd waited upstairs for Caden. With no other option, she descended and sat on the sofa.
Benedict wasted no time. โYou know Yolanda was almost assaulted at the police station, right?โ
Alicia, expecting this, remained calm. โShe had officers watching over her. Those criminals were all bark, no bite; Yolanda wasnโt actually hurt.โ
Her response, however, seemed to enrage Benedict. โSo, youโre saying you wish she had been hurt? Caden is already with you, and isnโt that enough? Do you want to take her down to feel satisfied?โ
Alicia recoiled from the harsh accusation. โBenedict, you know that kind of accusation can get you into trouble. Do you need a lesson on that?โ
Benedictโs expression shifted, but Alicia pressed on. โThe only reason Iโm showing you respect is because youโre Cadenโs uncle.โ
Benedict retorted, โSo you won Caden over with that sharp tongue of yours, huh?โ
Alicia replied calmly, โShould I say Iโm impressive, or that Caden is easily swayed by a few words from a woman?โ
