Chapter 534

Before dinner, Caden called. โ€œAre you back at Joy Mansion now?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Alicia replied, updating him on the situation.

Caden focused on one point, his tone disdainful. โ€œSo, did you go back with Blake?โ€

Alicia retorted, โ€œHeโ€™s two years older than you. Shouldnโ€™t you show him some respect?โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s still my nephew! Itโ€™s bad enough heโ€™s trying to charm my girlfriend while Iโ€™m away. Iโ€™m being remarkably lenient by not scolding him.โ€

Alicia, though speechless, found his reaction amusing. โ€œIโ€™ll head home after dinner. Just donโ€™t overthink it.โ€

Cadenโ€™s tone turned serious. โ€œDid Benedict give you a hard time?โ€

โ€œNot really. With Ciara around, he hasnโ€™t even spoken to me.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll try to wrap up work early and come back.โ€

Alicia sensed something was amiss. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? Is the Moss family putting pressure on you again?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s about the new batch of robots Corey released. Those influential clients are making things difficult for him,โ€ Caden explained. โ€œSince the chips are linked to me, Iโ€™m handling my part.โ€

Alicia instinctively offered, โ€œI was involved in this too. Do you need my help?โ€

Caden chuckled, knowingly. He was handling the aspects involving Alicia, but felt uncertain about the modifications sheโ€™d made. Confident in the chips he'd created, he still wanted to preempt any potential problems before they reached her.

โ€œHey, Iโ€™ve got to go,โ€ Caden said. โ€œIโ€™ll pick you up tonight.โ€

A warm feeling filled Alicia. โ€œAlright.โ€ But just as she savored the moment, Caden added, โ€œAnd keep your distance from that idiot Blake.โ€

Alicia fell silent.

After dinner, a tired Ciara took her medicine and went upstairs to rest. As Alicia headed downstairs, she spotted Benedict in the living room.

โ€œMs. Bennett, can we talk?โ€

Aliciaโ€™s heart pounded. She wished sheโ€™d waited upstairs for Caden. With no other option, she descended and sat on the sofa.

Benedict wasted no time. โ€œYou know Yolanda was almost assaulted at the police station, right?โ€

Alicia, expecting this, remained calm. โ€œShe had officers watching over her. Those criminals were all bark, no bite; Yolanda wasnโ€™t actually hurt.โ€

Her response, however, seemed to enrage Benedict. โ€œSo, youโ€™re saying you wish she had been hurt? Caden is already with you, and isnโ€™t that enough? Do you want to take her down to feel satisfied?โ€

Alicia recoiled from the harsh accusation. โ€œBenedict, you know that kind of accusation can get you into trouble. Do you need a lesson on that?โ€

Benedictโ€™s expression shifted, but Alicia pressed on. โ€œThe only reason Iโ€™m showing you respect is because youโ€™re Cadenโ€™s uncle.โ€

Benedict retorted, โ€œSo you won Caden over with that sharp tongue of yours, huh?โ€

Alicia replied calmly, โ€œShould I say Iโ€™m impressive, or that Caden is easily swayed by a few words from a woman?โ€
