Chapter 435
โI donโt know,โ she said calmly. โHe doesnโt need to report the details of his business trips to me.โ
Blake straightened. โSo, he said it was a business trip?โ
โYes.โ
Blakeโs brows furrowed. He couldnโt help but feel a sense of injustice on Aliciaโs behalf. โHe lied to you,โ he blurted out.
Rayโs chaotic playing seemed to echo the turmoil rising in Aliciaโs heart. โWhat do you mean?โ she asked.
Blake, wanting to be truthful, spoke carefully. โEven though I didnโt interact much with Caden when we were kids, everyone knew about his betrothal to Yolanda. It was arranged by both families. I know it rarely comes up now, but everyone in our circle knows. Before I came here, a mutual friend told me Caden was seen at the Moss family residence today.โ
โHe is there to attend to family obligations,โ Alicia replied.
Blakeโs eyes widened. โYou knew?โ
Aliciaโs face remained serene. โYes, I knew.โ
โThen why didnโt you tell me? Why pretend you didnโt know all along? Are you letting Caden take advantage of you?โ Blake asked, his tone laced with concern.
โHow is this any of your concern?โ Alicia snapped, her patience wearing thin.
Blakeโs expression shifted, and he apologized softly, sounding awkward and embarrassed. โI apologize,โ he said, his voice filled with regret. โI overstepped.โ
Alicia let out a long breath and shook her head. โI know you mean well, but I have my own way of handling things between Caden and me.โ
Blake pressed his lips into a thin line, nodding in silent acknowledgment. It was clear Alicia was the more vulnerable party in her relationship with Caden. Even if she tried to play mind games, she would only end up losing. Blake knew he was risking their friendship, but he decided to tell her the truth anyway.
โThe reason I was so agitated earlier,โ he began, โis because Yolanda posted a photo with Caden on her social media.โ He paused, choosing his words carefully. โHer captionโฆ the implicationโฆ well, she used words that could easily lead to several misunderstandings.โ
Alicia didnโt ask Blake to show her the photo. She knew Yolandaโs nature too well; the woman had enough cunning to turn white into black. Alicia feared seeing the photo would only cloud her judgment, and she didnโt want to lose her composure in Blakeโs presence. Whatever the truth was, Caden would explain it to her upon his return.
โMr. Langstaff, you should return to your work,โ Alicia added. โIโll continue teaching Ray to play the piano.โ
Blake stared at her for a moment, then sighed. โYou really are in love with Caden,โ he said quietly.
Alicia managed a faint smile. โIf I didnโt love him, there would be no reason for us to be together.โ
โBut donโt you feel wronged? Like youโre being taken advantage of?โ
โA single photo doesnโt prove anything. Dating isnโt a manufactured product. You canโt expect perfection just because youโve given so much of yourself to it.โ Alicia didnโt elaborate further, ending the conversation with, โIโll wait for Caden to explain it to me himself.โ
Blake was left speechless by her response.
