Chapter 370:
Cliff was about to push his chair away from Alicia when Caden approached. Relieved, Cliff quickly stood, offering, โMr. Ward, please take my seat.โ Caden remained nonchalant. โWhatโs wrong? Is Ms. Bennett uncomfortable sitting next to you?โ
Alicia tightened her grip on her fork, focusing intently on her meal. Cliff remained silent, eager to avoid any complications. โIโll go mingle with the elders. Enjoy yourselves,โ he said, making a hasty exit.
Caden took Cliff's place. With a subtle gesture, he served Alicia a portion of her favorite dish. โMs. Bennett, if I impress you tonight, do I get a little reward?โ he asked playfully. Heโd always been aware of Aliciaโs appeal, but hadn't realized how much she captivated others. With danger nearby, he felt the need to remain vigilant. Leaning closer, he whispered conspiratorially, โCould you give me a title and let everyone know weโre dating?โ
Heโd felt a strong impulse to announce their relationship to Madison, but knew it would upset Alicia. He hadnโt won her over yet; such a declaration would be inconsiderate. Heโd restrained himself then. Now, whispering again, Caden glanced at Alicia.
Across the table, Gerry attempted to eavesdrop but couldn't hear Caden's words. Frustrated, he said, โCould you two speak a little louder?โ Caden dropped his soft tone, giving Gerry a cold look. โWhy donโt you sit between us?โ
Gerry responded confidently, โSure, why not?โ
Alicia, unimpressed, discarded the food Caden had served and suggested to Gerry, โMr. Hopkins, letโs switch places.โ Gerry smirked at Caden before moving to swap seats with Alicia. He enjoyed being at the center of drama, even if it meant going to great lengths for a friend.
Caden maintained a poker face, casually sipping his drink. Gerry, relishing the situation, commented, โWhen Alicia was sitting by Cliff earlier, she didnโt seem this upset. It seems sheโs annoyed by you.โ
Caden remained unfazed. โA womanโs small temper tantrums only add to her charm,โ he replied with a shrug.
Gerry rested his chin on his hand. โAnd what good does that do? You need to win her over. Itโs been a while. Havenโt you tried to reconcile?โ Despite his teasing, Gerry felt a twinge of sympathy for Caden's downcast demeanor. He genuinely wanted to support him.
Caden replied flatly, โFixing things takes time. I shouldnโt rush it. I know what Iโm doing.โ
Gerry looked doubtful. โDo you really know how to win her over?โ
โWill you win her back?โ
โYes,โ Caden replied with assurance.
