Chapter 314:
Cadenโs eyes darkened, swirling with emotion. โAlicia.โ
She interrupted softly, โThereโs no need for more words. Youโre the high and mighty Mr. Ward. Why should you tarnish your pride for me?โ
Caden tightened his grip on her wrist, pulling her gaze to his. โDo you really want it to end like this?โ
An extended silence filled the hospital room. Cadenโs phone rang repeatedly, but he ignored it, his gaze fixed on Alicia. Her eyelashes fluttered as tears streamed down her face.
โCaden, if I could turn back time, I wish I could go back to the night you returned to the country. Iโd rather face death than have sought you out.โ
Caden remained quiet, his grip slowly loosening. โAlright. As you wish.โ
Aliciaโs eyes were swollen, but she stubbornly held back her tears. He stood, his tone distant. โRest well.โ
As he left the room, he paused. His heart felt as if it were shattering, the cold corridor wind chilling him to the bone. After a long pause, he walked away.
He reached the lounge, where only Ciara and Dorian were present. Noticing Cadenโs grave expression, Dorianโs gaze narrowed. โHow is Alicia? Is she doing alright?โ
Caden sat down. โHer hands and feet are frostbitten, and sheโs just recovered from a fever.โ
Dorianโs face fell. โIf Alicia needs anything, just let me know.โ
Caden replied, โIs that so? Then letโs go over the details.โ Dorian sensed something was amiss but couldnโt articulate his concerns. Only Ciara noticed the change in Caden.
โWhatโs wrong? Was there a misunderstanding with Alicia?โ
Caden hesitated, then responded coldly, โNo. Everythingโs fine.โ
He was thorough in the subsequent discussion, addressing every detail. Two hours passed unnoticed. Then, a knock interrupted the conversation. Cadenโs driver entered, saying, โMr. Ward, Miss Moss canโt hold on much longer.โ
Dorian reacted with shock. โWhat?โ
The driver, startled, clarified, โSheโs in a critical state, sir.โ
Caden gave a firm instruction, โWhat are you waiting for? Bring her up for rescue.โ
