Chapter 265:
He didn't want to miss the final days of her treatment, so he lifted her and stood. Turning, he saw Alice. Her expression was blank as she stared at him. Caden's heart sank.
"When did you get here?" he asked.
Alice looked stunned, a panicked tremor running through her. A wry smile touched his lips. He walked to a nearby table, speaking in his usual tone. "I've reserved a place here. I didn't expect to see you both." As he spoke, he found it difficult to breathe. Taking a moment to compose himself, he continued, "Miss Moss needs immediate medical attention. You should take her to the hospital."
He frowned, studying Alicia, trying to decipher her thoughts. He'd expected rationality, but her composure now unsettled him. There was nothing romantic between him and Yolanda. Why was Alicia behaving so magnanimously, as if she were a wife condoning an affair?
He replied, "I'll look for you later."
Alice turned away, speaking coldly, "There's no need."
Yolanda weakly lowered her head. "Caden, please put me down. You should clarify things with Miss Bennett to avoid misunderstandings."
Caden's face hardened. Noticing Alicia's distance, he realized any explanation would be futile. "I'll take you to the hospital first," he told Yolanda.
He drove briskly, Yolanda sobbing softly. "Do you think Mrs. Bennett will blame me? I'm sorry, Caden. I was incredibly selfish. I shouldn't have involved you. I'm truly sorry…"
Caden started the car, his expression darkening. He focused on the road, but his mind was filled with Alicia. She remained silent, serene, and elegant; yet, her eyes reflected a deep disappointment.
A feeling of oppression settled over his chest, a novel emotion.
At the hospital, Yolanda was surprisingly understanding. "Caden, you should find Miss Bennett. It's late, and she shouldn't be alone," she advised.
Caden turned to the doctor. "Please keep me informed of her status."
Yolanda offered a slight smile. "I'm fine, Caden. Don't worry about me."
