Chapter 93
“Back then, you were in your third year of junior high, on the verge of your senior year of high school. I did everything to prevent that woman from entering, to protect your position as the eldest grandson. I did it so that the illegitimate child of that mistress wouldn't taint our family's ancestral ball.”
“And what did you do? You became your father’s exact replica! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?”
These words stung more than any curse. They were daggers, piercing Christopher's heart.
“I’m so sorry, Grandpa. Paparazzi were staking out Cynthia’s hotel. She couldn’t stay there; her purse was snatched.”
“So, you let her into your house? How generous. Why don’t you provide shelter for the street people?” Daniel retorted.
Christopher was speechless.
“How long has she been staying there?” Daniel asked.
Christopher hesitated, considering a lie, when the cane struck him again.
“Don’t even think about lying to me! Spit it out! Or should I ask Mel?” Daniel demanded coldly.
Christopher muttered, “Twenty days.”
Daniel’s eyes widened. His cane rained down as he fumed. “Twenty days! You made Mel suffer for so long!”
Christopher tried to speak, but Daniel’s glare silenced him.
“You’ve been embroiled in two scandals with her. First, holding her at that event. Second, the million-dollar necklace. What do you say, Christopher?” Daniel chastised.
Christopher clenched his fists, his teeth gritted. He had nothing to say; his actions were witnessed.
After a moment, Daniel said expressionlessly, “I approve the divorce. Mel is a good girl. I’ve caused her misery for two years. As of today, you will leave her alone.”
Panic seized Christopher. He crawled forward, begging at Daniel’s feet, “No, I didn’t divorce her! Grandpa, those documents are forged! I didn’t sign them! The divorce is null and void!”
Daniel’s gaze was icy. He saw the anxiety etched on Christopher’s face.
“Stop denying it. You signed those papers. You just regret it now that she’s gone,” Daniel said.
“But what’s the point? Mel is sensible. She won’t endure the same ordeal again,” Christopher insisted, shaking his head. Seeing Christopher’s refusal, Daniel had Larry produce the papers. Larry showed Christopher the signature page. Christopher was dumbfounded. He recognized his signature.
“It can’t be! I never signed them!” Christopher stood, trying to reach the document, but Larry evaded him.
“Don’t let him touch the original,” Daniel said coldly. “He might tear it up.”
Christopher’s attempt to sabotage the divorce failed. He continued to beg, but Daniel remained impassive.
Breakfast was served, but Christopher had no appetite. He racked his brain, trying to recall signing the papers.
After breakfast, Sheldon arrived with a lawyer. Christopher immediately tried to oust them.
