Chapter 59

Cinthia was overjoyed, but hesitated timidly. “But you chose this necklace for two hours and spent a lot of money on it specifically for Melody. It might be inappropriate for me to accept it.”

Christopher’s anger flared. He had indeed spent two hours and a million dollars on it, but Melody had disdainfully rejected it, even throwing it away.

“She doesn’t deserve it. Take it. It’s for you,” he said before immediately walking into the master bedroom and slamming the door.

Cinthia watched him leave, a greedy, excited expression spreading across her face. She had originally planned to ask Melody to return the necklace, but this was far easier than she anticipated. Eagerly, she put it on and sat at the vanity to take pictures, adjusting the lighting to highlight the necklace’s brilliance. She then posted the photo with a caption on her Star Entertainment account.

In the master bedroom, Christopher finished washing up and lay down, intending to sleep, but remained wide awake. He kept switching between Melody’s contact page and their chat history, torn between anger and hesitation. He wanted an explanation yet hoped she would apologize.

In the end, his pride and logic prevailed. He wouldn’t contact her first. If she had the nerve, she could stay in the hospital forever. With a cold snort, Christopher put his phone on the nightstand, turned off the light, and tried to sleep.

Melody woke early the following day, her body rising with her biological clock. She instinctively sat up to make breakfast, then froze. She was back in her own home, completely separate from Christopher. She lay back down, but couldn’t sleep. It was a frightening habit, cultivated over two years, almost etched into her DNA.

Melody bit her lip, her eyes cold. She had to completely change her routine and habits, eliminating everything tied to Christopher. Since she couldn’t sleep, she got up, changed, and went for a morning run.

She was having breakfast when the sun rose, its warm light shining on her face. She messaged Heidi, who responded half an hour later, sharing gossip and entertainment news. One screenshot caught Melody’s attention: “Fuller Group’s Heir Purchases a 90-Million-Dollar Necklace for His Girlfriend.”

Melody, eating panna cotta, felt the world was small. Just one day after leaving, she’d seen news about Christopher. It was such a jarring start to the morning. She was ready to exit the page, but then saw a picture of the necklace. She froze.

It had a rose-shaped design with pink diamonds. It looked exquisite, but… wasn’t this the “compensation” Christopher had given her four nights ago? He’d said it wasn’t worth much, but it was actually worth a million dollars. Now, the necklace was around Cinthia’s neck, and her post read, “Thank you for the necklace. I absolutely love it!”

A sarcastic smile tugged at the corners of Melody’s mouth. So, it was meant for Cinthia all along? Why did he give it to Melody first? Perhaps he assumed she wouldn’t accept it? After all, Christopher had never bought her a single gift in two years. He was so hypocritical, so good at killing two birds with one stone.
