Chapter 44
As Cynthia left the building, she looked contemptuously at the receptionist and sneered, “Next time, keep your eyes open. Otherwise, I'll have Christopher fire you.”
The receptionist lowered her head, unable to respond. Sheldon, trailing behind, silently rolled his eyes at her arrogance. Even Melody didn't act so brazenly, yet Christopher still seemed to favor Cynthia.
Meanwhile, at home, Melody updated her resume. After a two-year gap, even though she could access Anthony's company indirectly, the HR department still required a formal application. Her phone buzzed repeatedly, but she ignored it.
Christopher, having nothing better to do, was again "seeking justice" for Cynthia. Had she asked Cynthia to deliver the food? No, Cynthia had insisted. But with the divorce papers served, Melody doubted Cynthia would tamper with food again to frame her.
At the company, Cynthia arrived with Sheldon. Everyone practically accepted her as "Mrs. Fuller." She worried about how to subtly include the divorce agreement among the documents for Christopher to sign. That afternoon, Arthur approached her to discuss investing in Fuller Group. At the mention, Cynthia smiled slyly—sometimes, things fell into place perfectly.
Five days later, she brought the contract—drafted in collaboration with Fuller Group—to Christopher's office for him and Arthur to sign. In the conference room, Arthur flattered Christopher while Cynthia slipped the divorce document among the others.
"Sign, Christopher. I should thank you, too. This time, Arthur gave me the prime spot at the show," Cynthia said, sitting close, her arm brushing his in a deliberately intimate manner.
"Ms. York is top-notch in figure and appearance, her elegance unmatched. It's only fitting she takes both opening and closing spots," Arthur praised. Christopher knew Arthur was flattering Cynthia, but having invested in the next show, ensuring her good position was only prudent.
As Christopher prepared to review the contract, he noticed Cynthia's hand subtly guiding his to the signature line. He hesitated briefly, then signed, confident the other party wouldn't include any traps.
Her heart raced as she watched him sign. Without waiting, she immediately retrieved the document and placed it in her bag.
Christopher frowned, but Cynthia immediately produced the document again. "I took it too hastily. My bad, I'm rushing to rehearsal." She placed it back before him, smiling. "Christopher, please double-check the terms to avoid issues later."
"Ms. York is very cautious. Mr. Fuller, it's best to review it one last time. We hope to establish a long-term partnership," Arthur added.
Christopher glanced over the document, focusing on key points. Nothing seemed amiss, but he sensed something was off. Was it his imagination, or did the signature section seem incomplete?
He flipped through more pages. Cynthia fidgeted, but finally, he set the document down. "Everything seems fine. The manager will follow up on details."
"Great! We look forward to a successful collaboration!" Arthur stood and shook his hand.
As they left, Cynthia asked Christopher to dinner. He spaced out, his thoughts drifting to Melody.
