Chapter 43
“Are you surprised to see me?” Cynthia laughed. Then, jokingly, she asked, “Or disappointed I’m not Mel?”
Christopher frowned. “Impossible. Don’t say such upsetting things.”
She smiled slyly, moving closer as she explained, “Bringing food here is her duty. Otherwise, why would I support her? I just don’t want you to hire yourself out. You shouldn’t be doing this kind of work.”
“I was just passing by. I haven’t had any fashion shows recently, so I only work half days,” Cynthia replied.
“Just put it on the table. I’ll have Sheldon take you to the studio,” Christopher said, rising and walking toward the couch.
“There’s no rush. I’ll stay and keep you company for a while,” she said, smiling as she sat beside him.
He said nothing, opening the lunchbox. The aroma of the food filled the air. He cautiously took a small bite.
“She clearly did it on purpose last night,” he murmured, as today’s meal was perfectly seasoned.
“After all, this is your special meal. Mel wouldn’t want to add too much salt,” Cynthia sighed. She added with an optimistic smile, “It’s like I know she’s uncomfortable with me staying at your place, but the extra salt is no big deal. It’s not poison.”
Christopher raised his brows. Poison? Melody might just do something like that. After all, she had once spilled boiling soup on Cynthia’s feet. She would rather hurt herself than let an enemy win.
“I’ll rent an apartment for you. Melody is a dangerous person,” he said.
At his words, Cynthia hesitated, then quickly recovered. She had been too forceful earlier, leading to Christopher asking her to move out.
“No need. I talked to Mel this morning. I told her I wouldn’t fight with her for you, so she doesn’t need to worry about me,” Cynthia replied. “And if you rent a place for me, she might get even angrier. It’s better if I stay close, so she can watch me.”
Christopher frowned. Did Melody want to watch Cynthia? But Melody had witnessed everything last night and still seemed unconcerned.
Based on everything, Christopher felt Melody might have some form of mental split. On one hand, she acted indecently; on the other, she was plotting revenge on Cynthia.
Strangely, he wasn’t angry about her playing tricks on Cynthia. In fact, he almost found it amusing.
He scoffed, his smile flickering before fading as he began eating.
Meanwhile, Cynthia pondered Melody’s earlier words. The document was in her bag, and she was thinking about how to get Christopher to sign it without him noticing. There was no perfect plan; if he noticed, it would be harder to succeed a second time.
After lunch, he didn’t immediately ask Cynthia to leave. Instead, he gave Sheldon instructions and returned to his work.
Cynthia poured him a cup of tea and noticed a pile of documents on his desk, which sparked an idea.
Seeing that he was too busy to pay her any attention, she grew impatient. Twenty minutes later, she left on her own, and Sheldon drove her away.
When the door closed behind her, Christopher looked up from his papers and pushed the documents aside. He grabbed his phone and texted Melody, asking why she hadn’t personally brought the food. Even after five minutes, he received no reply.
He then scolded her for tiring out Cynthia, deliberately using a sharp tone, hoping for a defensive answer. However, there was still no response after ten minutes. Enraged, Christopher threw his phone aside and crossed his arms.
