Chapter 422 A Hidden Threat

The elderly doctor frowned, still puzzled. โ€œWith such a high fever, there should be irregularities in the bloodwork.โ€

โ€œBut Mr. Simonโ€™s blood test results show nothing out of the ordinary.โ€

Heโ€™d also examined the lungs, throat, and even Johnathanโ€™s injured ribs โ€“ nothing stood out.

Sierraโ€™s heart skipped a beat. She stepped forward quickly. โ€œCan I see the report?โ€

The doctor glanced at Wayne. Seeing no objection, he handed it over.

Sierra skimmed through the results โ€“ and her expression darkened.

โ€œThis report is identical to the one from yesterday,โ€ she said sharply.

โ€œThatโ€™s impossible!โ€ the doctor immediately objected. โ€œBlood values change throughout the day. Theyโ€™d never be identical.โ€

โ€œThey are,โ€ Sierra replied firmly.

Then she rattled off the exact figures from memory โ€“ every reading, precise to the decimal. The room fell into stunned silence.

Sheโ€™d only seen the report once โ€“ and remembered it all?

Even Wayne looked at her with newfound respect.

He turned to the doctor and said, โ€œFetch yesterdayโ€™s report. Now.โ€

The hospital had returned all files to the Wynn estate, with nothing left on record.

Grumbling in disbelief, the doctor retrieved the prior report and compared the two โ€“ his eyes widened. โ€œItโ€™sโ€ฆ itโ€™s exactly the same. Not even a single digit is different. Thatโ€™s impossible!โ€

Blood results could never remain fixed like this.

Sierraโ€™s voice turned cold. โ€œIt is impossible. Unless something is interfering with the results.โ€

โ€œJohnathan was drugged yesterday.โ€

The initial assumption had been that it was a heavy sedative, and since there were no outward symptoms, everyone had dismissed it.

But that assumption had been dead wrong.

The organization behind the attack was known for advanced pharmaceutical development. There was no way theyโ€™d go through all that trouble just to knock him out with a simple tranquilizer.

Sierra had put the pieces together โ€“ and clearly, so had Wayne.

His face hardened, and he slammed his cane on the floor.

โ€œCall in every expert we have. Immediately.โ€

Sierra didnโ€™t stop him. She quietly collected a sample of Johnathanโ€™s earlier blood draws and slipped them into her bag.

She cast one last glance at Johnathan โ€“ his fever had dropped, but he was still unconscious.

โ€œGrandpa,โ€ she said firmly, turning to Wayne. โ€œPlease keep watch over him.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m going to the lab.โ€

She couldnโ€™t trust anyone else. She needed to uncover the truth with her own hands.

Wayne gave her a steady look, then nodded.

โ€œIโ€™ll have someone drive you โ€“ and make sure youโ€™re protected.โ€

Sierra nodded. She leaned down and pressed a kiss to Johnathanโ€™s forehead.

โ€œMr. Yaeger, stay put and wait for me, okay?โ€

Without another word, she turned and strode out, not looking back once.

Watching her decisive posture, Wayne nodded slightly to himself. Now thatโ€™s more like it.

With her guards, Sierra made it back to North Salem University at top speed.

The campus was still under lockdown from the day before, but Wayne had already paved the way โ€“ Sierra passed through security unhindered and entered the lab.

She changed into her lab coat, took a deep breath, and plunged into the sterile, glass-walled lab space.

Back at the estate, Johnathan slowly woke after the fever-reducing injection. His eyes opened to a room full of people โ€“ a sight that instantly irritated him.

Before he could speak, the caretakers called in the doctor, who hurried over to take his temperature.

It had dropped โ€“ but only slightly, still hovering around 101ยฐF (38ยฐC).

Johnathanโ€™s instincts told him something was wrong.

He didnโ€™t ask about himself. His first question was, โ€œWhereโ€™s Sierra?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s in the lab,โ€ came the answer from Wayne, who had just entered.

Given the strange nature of Johnathanโ€™s condition, the medical team had been cautious, treating only the fever while refraining from administering anything aggressive.

After dismissing everyone else, Wayne stepped forward and looked Johnathan square in the eye.

โ€œYou werenโ€™t drugged with a tranquilizer,โ€ he said. โ€œIt was something else. Sheโ€™s running tests to find out what.โ€

โ€œBut donโ€™t worry,โ€ he added. โ€œIโ€™ve assigned my best men. Sheโ€™ll be safe.โ€

Hearing that, Johnathan visibly relaxed.

Wayneโ€™s gaze sharpened.

โ€œJohnathan, this isnโ€™t just about you anymore.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know if theyโ€™re targeting you โ€“ or our entire Wynn family.โ€
