Chapter 391 Debts Unspoken
Susieโs voice trembled slightly. โYouโre only alive because of his mother. Do you understand? Itโs not just me who owes himโyou owe him too.โ
Jose froze. He had never heard any of this before and looked utterly confused. โI donโt understand what you mean.โ
Susie gave a bitter smile. โWendy and I were good friends. But back then, I was just like youโproud and stubborn. Wendy outshone me in every way, and I couldnโt accept it. I used to cause her trouble all the time. Once, I made a bet with her, and I ended up putting myself in serious danger. I really thought I was going to die. But in the end, it was Wendy who saved me. And because of that, she was targeted.โ
As she recalled the past, Susie trembled uncontrollably. She didnโt go into further detail but added, โJose, thereโs so much you donโt know. But remember thisโJohnathan doesnโt owe us anything. We owe him. Donโt let yourself go down that path again.โ
She took a deep breath and continued, โIโve already booked your flight and finished all the arrangements. Youโre leaving the country in three days.โ
After that conversation, Jose remained unsettled. He knew his mother wouldnโt lie to him, so everything she said must have been true. But she was clearly still hiding more from him.
What could possibly scare her, even with the Wynn familyโs status? When sheโd mentioned getting into trouble, sheโd looked genuinely afraid.
Should he really leave? He hadnโt wanted to before, but now he was starting to think it might be better to disappear for a whileโat least until everything blew over.
He had done things carefully. Surely no one could trace it back to himโฆ right? Just as the thought crossed his mind, his phone rang.
It was a number he didnโt recognize. At first, he didnโt pick up, but then a message came through. โIf you donโt answer, youโll deal with the consequences.โ
So when the call came again, Jose reluctantly answered. โWho is this?โ he asked anxiously.
A familiar voice came through the line. โJose, how could you forget me so quickly?โ โQuinn!โ Jose immediately recognized her. โThatโs right! And I have to thank you, Jose.โ
Her tone made Joseโs expression change. He knew she was threatening him. In that moment, he regretted ever helping her escape. This woman was going to be trouble. โYouโve got guts.โ Sheโd just gotten away, and she was already coming to him again? โI donโt have a choice. I need your help.โ โI canโt help you.โ
Jose was about to hang up when Quinn added, โIf I get caught, it wonโt end well for you either. You know how my brother is.โ
Jose took a deep breath. โWhat do you want?โ โRelax. Iโm not asking you to help me run. Iโm not leaving just yet.โ โThen quit wasting my time.โ โAlright then. I want you to get my kid out.โ
Jose immediately hung up. He didnโt need to investigate to know that Dora was under heavy protection. Anyone else trying to get close would definitely be suspectedโexcept him.
But if he took Dora away, there was no chance heโd get away with it. He was supposed to leave in three days. He didnโt want to stir up more troubleโbut things were quickly slipping out of his control.
At the hospital, Johnathanโs condition had improved a lot. By the next day, he was transferred to a regular room. He looked better than he had yesterday, and Sierra stayed by his side the entire time. โYou should go rest for a bit,โ Johnathan said, feeling a little guilty. โI can rest here.โ
The hospital room was no different from a hotel suiteโit had a bathroom, kitchenette, and everything else. โBesides, Iโm not even tired.โ
As she spoke, Sierra carefully took Johnathanโs hand in hers. It was wrapped in gauzeโno bones were broken, just cuts from the shattered window glass. Seeing how gently she handled his hand, Johnathan chuckled. โIโm not made of porcelain. You donโt have to be that careful.โ
Sierra ignored him and lightly squeezed his fingers before asking, โSomething happened in the car, didnโt it?โ
