Chapter 388 The Warning

Wayne immediately requisitioned the hospital director’s office. He sent everyone out, leaving only himself and Jose.

Jose felt nervous and asked cautiously, “Grandpa, did something happen?”

Wayne didn’t answer right away, only fixing Jose with a sharp gaze that made cold sweat drip down Jose’s back.

Then Wayne finally spoke, “Do you have nothing you want to tell me?”

Jose forced a smile. “Grandpa, I don’t know what you mean!”

Wayne’s eyes flashed with disappointment. Without wasting more time, he went straight to the point.

“I know Quinn’s return had something to do with you.”

Surprisingly, Jose calmed down after hearing this. He looked directly into his grandfather’s eyes and said, “So? I did contact Quinn, but at that time I didn’t know she was this kind of person. Our relationship with Johnathan was very tense, so I thought her return might help smooth things over.”

His explanation was flawless. His demeanor was also composed, making it seem as if Wayne had simply overthought the situation.

“Jose, you know where my limits are,” Wayne warned sternly. “You also know the Wynn family’s rules. Harming the life of a family member is strictly forbidden. If I find out this incident has anything to do with you, you’ll be expelled from the Wynn family.”

The Wynn family was large, and internal competition was inevitable. Long ago, the ancestors had laid down strict rules—fights and rivalries were allowed, but never at the expense of the family’s interests, and especially never through lethal means.

Victory and defeat were clear-cut. Losing meant losing.

This was why Johnathan, despite deeply disliking Jose, had never retaliated, and why Wayne himself had never intervened. He believed younger generations should resolve their conflicts themselves.

But this time, Johnathan had been severely harmed, crossing Wayne’s bottom line.

Although his eldest grandson had recently disappointed him repeatedly, Wayne still saw Johnathan as his preferred heir.

Jose’s heart raced, but outwardly, he respectfully replied, “I understand, Grandpa!”

“You may leave,” Wayne said calmly.

The fact that he’d asked to speak privately with Jose made Chase and Susie uneasy.

Seeing Jose come out, Susie quickly asked, “Jose, what did your grandfather talk to you about?”

“…Nothing important. He just asked if I knew anything about Quinn,” Jose replied reluctantly.

“Why would he suddenly ask about Quinn?”

Susie instinctively sensed something wasn’t right and wanted to continue questioning him, but at that moment they received news—the surgery had just ended.

Now, Susie and Chase no longer had time for questions, immediately hurrying toward the operating room.

Watching his parents genuinely worry about Johnathan, a hint of bitterness flashed through Jose’s eyes.

He truly couldn’t understand why his mother cared so deeply for Johnathan. He was clearly her own son, yet she always made him yield. Why?

At this moment, the resentment and jealousy in Jose’s heart reached their peak.

Suppressing his complicated feelings, Jose quickly followed his parents downstairs.

He wanted to personally hear the doctor announce Johnathan’s death.

Never had he hated Johnathan this much!

Downstairs, outside the operating room, Sierra froze as she watched the surgery light go out. She wanted to rush over and immediately ask the doctors about Johnathan’s condition, yet fear held her back.

She dreaded hearing any bad news from the doctors.

The doors opened, and several respected doctors came out together. Aware of the patient’s significant identity, they spoke politely.

“Where are the patient’s family members?”

“…Here.”

Sierra pinched herself hard to summon courage, stepping forward to face the doctors.

“Is he…all right?” she heard herself asking.

“The patient was seriously injured. Several ribs were broken, and his spleen was ruptured. However, thanks to his strong constitution, the surgery was very successful, and he’s now out of immediate danger.”

Upon hearing these words, Sierra finally felt she could breathe again. Taking a deep breath, she said in a trembling voice, “Thank you…thank you all!”

Chase and Susie arrived just in time to hear these words. They exchanged a relieved glance, gratitude clear in their eyes.
