Chapter 387: Blood and Blame

Mateo and the others quickly moved to Sierraโ€™s side, trying to comfort her.

โ€œItโ€™ll be okay, Sierra. The best doctors in the countryโ€”and the most advanced equipment in the worldโ€”are in there. Heโ€™ll be fine.โ€

Sierra couldnโ€™t take it in. All she heard were the words, "Heโ€™ll be fine." She pressed her lips together.

โ€œRight. Heโ€™ll be fine. He has to be.โ€

She fell silent after that, her eyes fixed on the emergency room doors.

Her condition was worrying. The others exchanged uneasy glances, unsure how to console herโ€”truth be told, they were all scared too.

None of them had ever seen Johnathan this badly hurt before. Rumor had it that when he was brought in, he was covered in blood.

Wayne and Chase had only just arrived, having gotten the news late. Both men wore grim, unspeakable expressions.

โ€œWhat happened exactly?โ€ Wayne asked.

Heโ€™d rushed over the moment he heard his eldest grandson was injured but hadnโ€™t been told the details.

Maddox stepped forward. โ€œWe checked the surveillance and the vehicle. Someone tampered with Johnathanโ€™s car. The brakes failed. He probably didnโ€™t realize until it was too late. He swerved to avoid hitting pedestrians and crashed.โ€

And unfortunately, the car he hit happened to be a large freight truck. Otherwise, given the safety features of Johnathanโ€™s car, his injuries wouldnโ€™t have been this severe.

Wayneโ€™s face turned cold.

He knew what his grandson was capable of. If the car had been tampered with, Johnathan shouldโ€™ve noticed. What had distracted him?

And more importantly... he chose to swerve? To crash on purpose just to avoid hitting someone?

When had his cold-blooded grandson become so soft?

But now wasnโ€™t the time for questions. Right now, he just needed Johnathan to make it out alive.

Wayne snapped to attention. โ€œGet more doctors. I want the best in Albanos in that operating roomโ€”now.โ€

โ€œAnd start an investigation. I want to know who had the guts to touch someone from the Wynn family.โ€

The room stiffened. Maddox and the others exchanged nervous looks. Wayne didnโ€™t act oftenโ€”but when he did, it always ended with results. Albanos was about to be turned upside down.

But truthfully, they wanted answers too.

Stone hesitated, then said, โ€œCould it have been Quinn?โ€

He didnโ€™t say it lightlyโ€”but the timing was too suspicious.

Quinn escaped, and now Johnathan was nearly killed.

Sierra hadnโ€™t been paying attention to the conversationโ€”until she heard that name.

โ€œQuinn? What does this have to do with her?โ€

โ€œShe escaped,โ€ Stone explained. โ€œFaked a medical episode to get transferred to the hospitalโ€”then slipped out.โ€

Just then, Susie and Jose arrived. Susieโ€™s worry was written all over her face.

โ€œHow is Johnathan?โ€ she asked Chase.

โ€œHeโ€™s still in surgery.โ€

Chaseโ€™s voice was hoarse. He was struggling the most.

Just minutes before the crash, he and Johnathan had been on the phone. And then this.

If anything happened to Johnathan, how could he face Wendy? Before she died, she made him promise again and again to protect their sonโ€”but heโ€™d failed, over and over.

Pain flickered in Chaseโ€™s eyes.

Susie saw it and gently comforted him. โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Johnathanโ€™s going to be okay.โ€

As his parents stood there, lost in their guilt and grief, Jose looked on with undisguised scorn.

At first, when he heard Johnathan was in an accident, heโ€™d actually felt a twinge of concern.

Now, he felt like a fool.

Why should he be worried? Johnathan had a whole army of people to worry for him.

But... was it really Quinn?

That woman was brutal. Heโ€™d thought she might have feelings for Johnathan, but apparently notโ€”she hadnโ€™t hesitated to take him out.

This collaboration... was turning out to be very satisfying.

If heโ€™d known how dangerous Quinn really was, he wouldโ€™ve gotten her out sooner.

Jose was lost in thought when a sharp voice called out.

โ€œJose. Come with me. I have some questions.โ€

He turned to find Wayne staring at him with eyes that seemed to see straight through him.

Joseโ€™s stomach dropped.
