Chapter 315: Things Left Unsaid

Sierra kissed Jonathan on the cheek before leaving. Before she left, she made a point to stop by Quinnโ€™s office. Quinn was on a video call with Dora and waved her over excitedly.

โ€œDora, look who it is!โ€

On the screen, Dora lit up the moment she saw Sierra. โ€œPretty lady!โ€ she chirped sweetly.

โ€œNo, itโ€™s Ms. Sierra!โ€ Quinn corrected her gently.

But Dora kept insisting, โ€œPretty lady!โ€

Sierra chuckled and waved it off. โ€œLet her say it. Makes me sound younger anyway.โ€

Quinn let it go with a smile and stayed on the call with Dora a little longer, chatting gently with her before finally ending the call.

โ€œSheโ€™s really adorable,โ€ Sierra said, unable to hide her smile. That child was unbelievably well-behaved for a three-year-old. No tantrums, no fussing โ€“ just pure sweetness.

โ€œDaughters are always a little more tenderhearted.โ€

Quinn gave Sierra a knowing grin. โ€œSo, when are you and Jonathan planning to have one?โ€

Sierra was speechless. A baby? That was way too early. The thought hadnโ€™t even crossed her mind. She and Jonathan hadnโ€™t been together that long. They hadnโ€™t even talked about marriage, let alone children. And clearly, Jonathan felt the same. Theyโ€™d always been careful.

โ€œI donโ€™t have any plans for that right now,โ€ Sierra replied. At the very least, she didnโ€™t see it happening for another couple of years. She still wanted to go further in life โ€“ she wanted to catch up to Jonathan.

โ€œReally?โ€ Quinn looked genuinely disappointed. โ€œI thought you two would get married and have kids soon. Heโ€™s always wanted one, you know.โ€

Sierra froze. Jonathanโ€ฆ wanted a child? Heโ€™d never once mentioned it. She had no idea.

Seeing the surprise on her face, Quinn blinked. โ€œYou didnโ€™t know? He never told you?โ€

Sierra instinctively shook her head. Quinn opened her mouth like she was about to say something else, then quickly stopped herself.

โ€œWell, that was a long time ago. Itโ€™s been years โ€“ he mightโ€™ve changed his mind. You know how he is. His thoughts are always evolving.โ€

He liked kids? He actually wanted a child of his own? That was news to her.

โ€œWhatโ€™s up with you today?โ€ Autumn asked, unable to hold back. She noticed that Sierra kept spacing out โ€“ something that almost never happened before.

โ€œYou fight with Mr. Yaeger or something?โ€ she guessed.

Sierra shook her head. โ€œNo, we didnโ€™t fight.โ€ She just couldnโ€™t stop thinking about what Quinn said.

โ€œThereโ€™s something Iโ€™m not sure aboutโ€ฆ and I donโ€™t know if I should ask.โ€

Autumn gave her a firm pat on the shoulder. โ€œThen ask.โ€

โ€œIf Mr. Yaeger loves you that much, what could you possibly not ask?โ€

โ€œHow do you know itโ€™s about him?โ€ Sierra asked, curious.

Autumn rolled her eyes. โ€œCome on. Itโ€™s not that hard to guess. Nine times out of ten, when somethingโ€™s off with you, itโ€™s because of him.โ€

Was that true? Sierra thought back. Sure enough, her mood swings lately all seemed to revolve around Jonathan.

โ€œOh, and Mr. Yaegerโ€ฆโ€ Autumn hesitated for a second before asking, โ€œIs the stuff online true?โ€

โ€œYou know โ€“ about him being some bigshot?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t mean just in science. I mean in business too.โ€

The online rumors had been everywhere for a while. Of course, Autumn and the others had seen them. Honestly, none of them were shocked. Maybe it was because theyโ€™d always looked up to Jonathan. In their eyes, he could do anything.

But that clash with the Zach family had rocked the world โ€“ so many ordinary people had suffered. The stock market went wild. Countless people lost their jobs. Autumnโ€™s family had been affected too, though luckily they found work again quickly, so the damage wasnโ€™t too deep.

Sierra had never intended to hide it. She knew she couldnโ€™t, even if she tried.

She nodded. โ€œItโ€™s true.โ€

She half-expected Autumn to be upset, but instead, Autumn just gave her a look that mixed awe, envy, and pure existential defeat.

โ€œSierraโ€ฆ how can someone be that good at everything?โ€ They werenโ€™t even much younger than Jonathan, and they were still fumbling through their experiments โ€“ meanwhile, heโ€™d been building an empire.

Truly, some people were just built different.
