Chapter 303: You Brought That on Yourself

โ€œThey just got a call. One of the horses got spooked. Someone got thrown off,โ€ the staff announced, not waiting for Sierra to ask questions. They jumped into the car with the doctors and sped off.

Sierraโ€™s face changed. She couldnโ€™t sit still. Her first thought was that something had happened to Johnathan and the others. Draven, of course, was much calmer. โ€œRelax. Even if someone fell, it wonโ€™t be any of them. Itโ€™s probably one of the guys Shane brought.โ€

โ€œThey all went out together?โ€ Sierra asked quickly.

โ€œYeah. They were racing. Even put money on it, I think. Didnโ€™t I mention that?โ€ Draven looked like he was just realizing he hadnโ€™t told her that part. Sierra stared at him, utterly speechless.

Knowing Johnathan was with Shane made her even more on edge. Just then, the sound of hooves came pounding toward them. Sierra looked upโ€”and immediately spotted the massive black stallion in the lead. The man on its back made her finally breathe easier.

Johnathan and the others rode in fast, though Maddox was nowhere in sight. โ€œWhereโ€™s the rest of you! What about Shane?โ€ she asked.

โ€œShane broke his leg. Heโ€™s waiting for the medics to take him out,โ€ Stone replied.

โ€œHis legโ€™s broken?โ€ Sierra instinctively turned to Johnathan. She didnโ€™t know why, but it felt like he had something to do with it.

โ€œNot my problem. He couldnโ€™t keep up and fell off on his own,โ€ Johnathan said, completely unfazed.

Mateo and Stone exchanged a look. They didnโ€™t say anything, but their expressions said plenty. Johnathan, innocent? Please. He and Shane had been at each otherโ€™s throats since morning. When Shane suggested a race, Johnathan agreed on the spot. And then he absolutely crushed him. Shane refused to admit defeat and pushed his horse too hard. The poor animal panicked, lost control, and threw him off.

So yeahโ€”technically not Johnathanโ€™s fault. All he did was provoke, insult, and humiliate the guy into making a dumb move. Classic Johnathan. He didnโ€™t seem to care one bit. His eyes were fixed solely on Sierra.

She didnโ€™t wear dresses oftenโ€”the last time was her birthday party. But here she was in a long white one, and just looking at her made his throat tighten. He swallowed hard before finally saying, โ€œYou look good.โ€

So good, in fact, that he was getting ideas again. Sierra didnโ€™t need to guess. She could tell exactly what was going through his head just from the look in his eyes. Unbelievable. Is this man a machine? Theyโ€™d gone at it almost all night. Then he got up first thing in the morning to go ride horses. Wasnโ€™t he tired? Whether he was or wasnโ€™t, Sierra definitely was. Everything hurt. When he caught her glare, Johnathan actually looked a little guilty.

Chapter 303: You Brought That on Yourself

โ€œDamn shame. Broken leg. Heโ€™s gonna be stuck at home for a few months. Better take it easy, Shane.โ€

Maybe it was the embarrassment, maybe the painโ€”but Shane didnโ€™t have that usual fake smile on his face. He looked downright coldโ€ฆ

โ€œIโ€™m not dying,โ€ he muttered. He started to say moreโ€”then noticed Sierra standing a short distance away. She was still in that long white dress. He blinked. Then his eyes droppedโ€”and locked onto her neck. Even with her hair down, she couldnโ€™t hide all of it. The marks were still there. One glance and anyone could tell what she and Johnathan had been up to last night.

Shaneโ€™s face darkened instantly. He lifted his gaze toward Johnathan, eyes cold as ice. Johnathan met his stare with one even sharper. The tension between them crackled like live wires. The air was thick. Right as things were about to boil over, Maddox came rushing from the car and shoved himself between them.

โ€œShane, you should get to the hospital. Donโ€™t waste time.โ€

Shane looked at Maddox and gave a faint smile. โ€œAppreciate the concern.โ€ Then his friends helped him back to the car, and they left. Maddox finally let out a long sigh of relief. He turned to Johnathan and couldnโ€™t help saying, โ€œHeโ€™s the only heir the Goodman familyโ€™s got left. Maybe take it easy.โ€

If anything happened to Shaneโ€”if he actually diedโ€”Jade would absolutely lose it. And with the kind of power she held now, that would be a problem for everyone.

โ€œHe brought it on himself,โ€ Johnathan said coldly. And he wasnโ€™t lying. Heโ€™d seen the way Shane looked at Sierra last night.
