Chapter 260: That Dog of a Student
โFor now, just stick to your own ideas,โ Professor Martin said. โIf you run into problems, shoot me an email. But let me be clearโI wonโt have answers for everything.โ
He clicked his tongue and added, โYou can ask that little bastard, too. Heโs useless at most things, but when it comes to thinking outside the box, heโs not bad.โ
โGot it, Professor!โ Sierra couldnโt help smiling.
Even though Professor Martin spoke of Jonathan with obvious disdain, if you listened closely, there was pride behind every wordโpride that one of his students was Jonathan.
โYou work hard and aim to surpass that little bastard. Noโscratch that. You have to surpass him.โ
Professor Martin looked thoroughly annoyed. โAll that talent, wasted. Always messing around instead of using it properly.โ
Sierra knew he was talking about Jonathan. She didnโt really know what to say, so she just gave a small smile.
Professor Martin shot her a look. โSmile, smile, smile. You look like a damn fool. No wonder heโs got you wrapped around his finger!โ
Sierra was speechless.
After a round of his signature โguidance,โ Professor Martin finally left, and only then did everyone dare to breathe again.
Autumn looked completely drained. โI swear, our professor mustโve studied literature too. His vocabulary is too impressive. Just another day of being verbally demolished.โ
The others all looked like theyโd been through a war. Then, one by one, they turned to look at Sierraโeyes burning with intensity. She instinctively stepped back.
Autumn was the first to speak. โIโm so jealous of you. He didnโt even yell at you. He actually spoke to you nicely. He called me a dumbass.โ
Sierra tried to gently remind them, โThatโs really not even that badโฆโ
Autumn gave her a โyou-sweet-summer-childโ look. โNot bad? Thatโs basically him showering you with affection.โ
Sierra was speechless.
Okay, maybe she was a little naive.
That afternoon, when Jonathan came to pick her up, Sierra told him everything that had happened.
His expression turned a bit strange. โAfter all these years, the old manโs still that energetic.โ
Sierra looked at him. โMore than that, I want to knowโwhat did you do back then?โ
She could sense there was still some lingering bitterness from the professor.
โI wanted to leave after learning what I needed. He didnโt want me to go, so I ran off. Think I went abroad after thatโฆ studiedโฆ art.โ
Sierra stared at him, her expression shifting.
Biochemistry and art. Those two couldnโt be further apart. No wonder the professor was so furious.
Talk about wasted potential. Just hearing that made her feel indignantโand she wasnโt even the one being let down.
She said sincerely, โMr. Yaeger, donโt say that in front of anyone else. Iโm afraid someone might actually hit you.โ
Johnathan looked pleased. โThey couldnโt beat me anyway.โ
Sierra was speechless.
She was tempted to throw a punch herself. How could anyone be this smug?
Jonathan rarely saw her like this and found it incredibly amusing.
He freed one hand to gently ruffle her hair.
โYou know, thatโs exactly how people feel when they look at you. Why do you think the old man took you in? Sierra, one day, your achievements will surpass mine.โ
Sierra thought about that for a moment. โNo way. Iโm not as freakishly gifted as you.โ
She was good in one field, but Jonathan? He made it feel like there was nothing he couldnโt do.
โThatโs just boredom. When youโre bored, you end up messing with random things. Otherwise, you do worse stuff. But if you ever focused all your energy on just one thing for a while, youโd succeed too. The difference isโyou care. Youโve got people you donโt want to disappoint. Youโve got goals. Youโre not like me.โ
He said it lightly, as if it didnโt matter, but something about it made Sierra pause. She looked at him.
โAnd now? Mr. Yaegerโhave you found your goal yet?โ
