Chapter 207: No More Ties

Nierraโ€™s grandmother didnโ€™t speak; she simply studied her daughter for a long time. Even with clean clothes, Volia couldnโ€™t hide how much she had suffered. She looked even more frail than before.

โ€œSierra, I want to speak with her alone,โ€ Sierraโ€™s grandmother said.

Sierra nodded and stepped outside. The moment the door closed, Sierraโ€™s grandmother finally spoke.

โ€œWhy was it so hard to find you alone?โ€

Yulia immediately started sobbing, spilling out all the hardships she had endured. She had always been a weak person, always looking for someone else to rely on. As she spoke, she cried even harder, painting herself as the victim. Half a lifetime had passed, yet she hadnโ€™t changed at all.

Sierraโ€™s grandmother watched her daughter, disappointment thick in her eyes. How had she raised a child like this? After a long pause, she finally asked, โ€œWhat are you planning to do now?โ€

Yulia looked at her in shock. โ€œWhy was she asking that! Fladict she sent someone to find her because she was worried!โ€

Sierraโ€™s grandmother saw right through her. She said calmly, โ€œI called you here because I donโ€™t have much time left. No matter what, we are still mother and daughter. I thought I should tell you.โ€

Yulia froze for a moment, then panic flashed across her face. Not because she was afraid of losing her mother. She was afraid that once her mother was gone, Sierra would have even less reason to care about her.

โ€œMom, what are you saying? Sierra has money nowโ€”she can save you! You canโ€™t die! If you die, what will happen to me?โ€

Yuliaโ€™s tears became more desperate. She was already picturing her own miserable future. Then, as if she had just realized something, she suddenly grabbed her motherโ€™s arm.

โ€œMom, tell Sierra to help me. Ask her to take care of me. She listens to youโ€”sheโ€™ll do it.โ€

Sierraโ€™s grandmotherโ€™s heart turned ice cold. She looked down at her daughter, who was kneeling before her in tears. For the first time, there was no love left in her gaze. Only grief. How had Yulia become this way? She had been a good child once. When had she turned into someone like this? Menโ€™s grandmother had just told her she was dying, yet Yuliaโ€™s first reaction wasnโ€™t sadness. Instead, all she cared about was what would happen to her once her mother was gone.

Chapter 207: No More Ties

Even now, as Nierraโ€™s grandmother lay at deathโ€™s door, Yulia was still trying to squeeze out whatever she could from her. Before, she had tried to convince herself that Yulia was simply weak. That she had been scared into submission by James, but now, she understood. Her daughter was selfish to the bone.

Closing her eyes briefly, Sierraโ€™s grandmother finally said, โ€œI wonโ€™t ask Sierra for anything. She doesnโ€™t owe me, and she certainly doesnโ€™t owe you.โ€ She took a deep breath before continuing, โ€œI called you here not just to tell you Iโ€™m dying. I wanted to make one thing clearโ€”if I have even a shred of human decency left, stop clinging to Sierra. Donโ€™t expect her to take care of you.โ€

Yuliaโ€™s eyes widened in shock. She couldnโ€™t believe what she was hearing.

โ€œYouโ€ฆ How can you say that?โ€

โ€œIt was my failure as a mother that you turned out this way,โ€ Sierraโ€™s grandmother said quietly. โ€œMaybe this is my punishment.โ€ She turned away. โ€œYou should go.โ€

Yulia broke down completely. โ€œMom! You canโ€™t be this cruel!โ€ she wailed. โ€œIf you donโ€™t care about me, what am I supposed to do?โ€

Sierraโ€™s grandmother didnโ€™t respond. Desperation turned to fury. Yulia glared at her mother and cried, โ€œI ended up like this because of you! You always told me what I couldnโ€™t do, what I shouldnโ€™t do. Itโ€™s your fault that I became so weak! You made me like thisโ€”so how can you abandon me now?โ€

She suddenly stood up, eyes wild. โ€œFine! If youโ€™re going to die, then Iโ€™ll die first!โ€

Before Sierraโ€™s grandmother could react, Yulia ran to the window. She threw it open and climbed onto the ledge, looking back at her mother with a crazed expression.

โ€œIf you tell me to leave, Iโ€™ll jump!โ€

Sierraโ€™s grandmotherโ€™s face paled. She hadnโ€™t thought her daughter would go this far. The commotion had been loud enough that Sierra, worried something was wrong, pushed open the doorโ€”only to see Yulia sitting on the window ledge. She didnโ€™t even look at her. Her first concern was her grandmother. But Sierraโ€™s grandmother was trembling, her face drained of color, lips trembling with anger and pain.

โ€œGrandma!โ€ Sierra rushed forward. โ€œDonโ€™t get upset, donโ€™t get upset!โ€

โ€œGet her out of here!โ€ Sierraโ€™s grandmother shouted, her voice shaking with rage.

She thought, at the very least, she should see her daughter one last time. But now, she wished she never had. If she hadnโ€™t seen her, at least she could have held onto some hope. Now, she had nothing but disappointment.

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll make her leave.โ€

Sierra turned and strode toward Yulia.
