Chapter 207: No More Ties
Nierraโs grandmother didnโt speak; she simply studied her daughter for a long time. Even with clean clothes, Volia couldnโt hide how much she had suffered. She looked even more frail than before.
โSierra, I want to speak with her alone,โ Sierraโs grandmother said.
Sierra nodded and stepped outside. The moment the door closed, Sierraโs grandmother finally spoke.
โWhy was it so hard to find you alone?โ
Yulia immediately started sobbing, spilling out all the hardships she had endured. She had always been a weak person, always looking for someone else to rely on. As she spoke, she cried even harder, painting herself as the victim. Half a lifetime had passed, yet she hadnโt changed at all.
Sierraโs grandmother watched her daughter, disappointment thick in her eyes. How had she raised a child like this? After a long pause, she finally asked, โWhat are you planning to do now?โ
Yulia looked at her in shock. โWhy was she asking that! Fladict she sent someone to find her because she was worried!โ
Sierraโs grandmother saw right through her. She said calmly, โI called you here because I donโt have much time left. No matter what, we are still mother and daughter. I thought I should tell you.โ
Yulia froze for a moment, then panic flashed across her face. Not because she was afraid of losing her mother. She was afraid that once her mother was gone, Sierra would have even less reason to care about her.
โMom, what are you saying? Sierra has money nowโshe can save you! You canโt die! If you die, what will happen to me?โ
Yuliaโs tears became more desperate. She was already picturing her own miserable future. Then, as if she had just realized something, she suddenly grabbed her motherโs arm.
โMom, tell Sierra to help me. Ask her to take care of me. She listens to youโsheโll do it.โ
Sierraโs grandmotherโs heart turned ice cold. She looked down at her daughter, who was kneeling before her in tears. For the first time, there was no love left in her gaze. Only grief. How had Yulia become this way? She had been a good child once. When had she turned into someone like this? Menโs grandmother had just told her she was dying, yet Yuliaโs first reaction wasnโt sadness. Instead, all she cared about was what would happen to her once her mother was gone.
Chapter 207: No More Ties
Even now, as Nierraโs grandmother lay at deathโs door, Yulia was still trying to squeeze out whatever she could from her. Before, she had tried to convince herself that Yulia was simply weak. That she had been scared into submission by James, but now, she understood. Her daughter was selfish to the bone.
Closing her eyes briefly, Sierraโs grandmother finally said, โI wonโt ask Sierra for anything. She doesnโt owe me, and she certainly doesnโt owe you.โ She took a deep breath before continuing, โI called you here not just to tell you Iโm dying. I wanted to make one thing clearโif I have even a shred of human decency left, stop clinging to Sierra. Donโt expect her to take care of you.โ
Yuliaโs eyes widened in shock. She couldnโt believe what she was hearing.
โYouโฆ How can you say that?โ
โIt was my failure as a mother that you turned out this way,โ Sierraโs grandmother said quietly. โMaybe this is my punishment.โ She turned away. โYou should go.โ
Yulia broke down completely. โMom! You canโt be this cruel!โ she wailed. โIf you donโt care about me, what am I supposed to do?โ
Sierraโs grandmother didnโt respond. Desperation turned to fury. Yulia glared at her mother and cried, โI ended up like this because of you! You always told me what I couldnโt do, what I shouldnโt do. Itโs your fault that I became so weak! You made me like thisโso how can you abandon me now?โ
She suddenly stood up, eyes wild. โFine! If youโre going to die, then Iโll die first!โ
Before Sierraโs grandmother could react, Yulia ran to the window. She threw it open and climbed onto the ledge, looking back at her mother with a crazed expression.
โIf you tell me to leave, Iโll jump!โ
Sierraโs grandmotherโs face paled. She hadnโt thought her daughter would go this far. The commotion had been loud enough that Sierra, worried something was wrong, pushed open the doorโonly to see Yulia sitting on the window ledge. She didnโt even look at her. Her first concern was her grandmother. But Sierraโs grandmother was trembling, her face drained of color, lips trembling with anger and pain.
โGrandma!โ Sierra rushed forward. โDonโt get upset, donโt get upset!โ
โGet her out of here!โ Sierraโs grandmother shouted, her voice shaking with rage.
Chapter 207: No More Ties
She thought, at the very least, she should see her daughter one last time. But now, she wished she never had. If she hadnโt seen her, at least she could have held onto some hope. Now, she had nothing but disappointment.
โAlright, Iโll make her leave.โ
Sierra turned and strode toward Yulia.
