Jonathan smiled at Sierra and said, โI need to have a word with Mateo alone; weโll be back soon.โ Then he efficiently dragged Mateo out to the balcony, and almost simultaneously, the glass door and curtains closed, barely muffling Mateoโs cries of pain and pleas for mercy.
Sierra had never seen such a scene and looked worriedly in the direction of the balcony. She knew Jonathanโs strength. Surely he wouldnโt hurt someone badly?
As if reading her thoughts, Maddox chuckled, โMs. Xander, donโt worry. Mr. Yeager knows his limits.โ
Draven also smiled gently, โThey do this often.โ
Stone added, โHe can take a beating!โ
Sierra was left speechless. She felt a mix of sympathy for Mateo, thinking to herself how unfortunate he was. Feeling a bit uneasy with three strangers in the house, she offered, โIโll get you guys some water.โ
It was Maddox, who seemed the easiest to talk to, who responded, โNo need! Donโt trouble yourself, or weโll be next to get a beating!โ
Sierra stared at Maddox, shocked, wondering if she had heard him wrong.
Draven cleared his throat and said, โCanโt help it. Mr. Yeager plays by his own rules.โ With a shrug of resignation, he added, โWhat Mateo said was true. Jonโs territorial. Just being allowed in here is enough forโฆโ
Sierra was left speechless, feeling an odd sense of camaraderie, yet questioning whether Jonathanโs way of dealing with his friends was quite right. Perhaps, though, this was just their unique way of interacting.
After an awkward silence, she couldnโt help but say, โYou guys are really patient with him.โ
Stone, who hadnโt spoken much, chimed in, โWe donโt have much choice; we canโt beat him!โ
Sierra went quiet again. The initial discomfort had vanished, and she found Jonathanโs friends quite interesting.
Just then, the balcony door opened, and Jonathan came through looking refreshed, followed by a sullen Mateo who trailed behind him like a scolded spouse.
Sierra was momentarily stunned by her own thought and then couldnโt help but laugh.
โWhatโs so funny?โ Jonathan asked, clearly in a good mood.
Sierra hadnโt laughed since hearing about Lilyโs situation yesterday. She had maintained a facade in front of Lily, but it had been weighing on her.
โItโs nothing!โ She couldnโt possibly reveal what had just crossed her mind and quickly changed the subject, โWith everyone here, we might need more food. Should I order some more?โ
โNo need! They arenโt eating,โ Jonathan said without a second thought, glancing over at the others.
Maddox smoothly took over, โMs. Xander, no trouble at all, weโll head out to eat later.โ His statement was artfully phrased, and Jonathan shot him a look that carried a hint of annoyance. Maddox, the smooth talker, always had an angle. Jonathan wasnโt buying it, but Sierra was.
โYou guys came all this way, you should definitely eat here,โ Sierra insisted. Looking at Jonathan, she saw him resign himself to the situation.
โIโll get more food,โ he conceded.
Sierra nodded. The others exchanged glances, silently communicating their amusement.
โSee, being in love changes everything, Jonโs actually acting human!โ
โFinally, someone who can manage Jon. Just for that, Iโm officially considering her part of the family.โ
Sierra was oblivious to the silent decisions being made around her. By the time she turned back to address them, they had come to accept Sierraโs role as Jonathanโs wife and began treating her with even greater respect.
Draven, adjusting his glasses, said, โSierra, we saw that video of you; youโre impressive. If possible, Iโd love to exchange some ideas with you.โ
Sierra was immediately intrigued, โAre you also into biosciences?โ
Mateo burst out laughing. โNo, Mrs. Yeager, heโs just trying to sound smart. He doesnโt know the first thing about biochemistry.โ
Draven wasnโt offended and simply replied, โI study physics, but itโs all academic. Still better than some who donโt even know Newtonโs laws.โ
Sierra went quiet. Physics and biochemistry are worlds apart! She felt she couldnโt really discuss much with Draven but appreciated the gesture nonetheless. Draven reminded her of her first impression of Jonathan, though Draven seemed a bit more refined. Of course, now Sierra knew better than to judge a book by its cover. With Jonathan being such a surprise, who knew what Draven was really like!
She glanced at Jonathanโs friends, sensing there was more to them than met the eye.
โBy the way, Mrs. Yeager, we heard youโve run into some trouble. Need our help?โ Mateo whispered, his voice low. โWithout going into details, weโve got money, manpower, and muscle.โ He patted Stone on the back and whispered, โJust say the word, and weโll take care of it. Weโll crush them!โ
