Chapter 174: The Bait and the Trap
Madam Lily held Sierraโs hand tightly, unsure what to say. She had watched the livestream, even though she didnโt understand much about Sierraโs research. Dr. Zahn had explained its potential, and that the first drug Sierra developed specifically treated her illness. What else was there to question?
Thinking about the livestream, another thought occurred to her. โIs Mr. Yeager good to you?โ She had seen how Jonathan defended Sierra, which reassured her. But after hearing from Dr. Zahn about Jonathanโs status in the scientific community, she also felt a bit concerned.
โHeโs the best person Iโve ever met, Grandma.โ Sierra paused before asking, โGrandma, if one day I decide to leave this place, would you be willing to go with me?โ
Jonathanโs words that day had stirred something in her. Once everything here was settled, she didnโt want to stay anymore. The world outside was vast; she wanted to see how far she could go. โWherever you go, Sierra, Grandma will go.โ Lily patted Sierraโs hand, comforting her. With that reassurance, Sierra felt completely at ease in Maviston.
The Xander familyโs matter was resolved, and her grandmotherโs health was improving. The only loose ends were Kaso and Shane.
Just as she was thinking about this, her phone rang. The number was unfamiliar. These past few days, she had been ignoring unknown calls, but this time, she chose to answer.
โHello! Finally, you picked up, Sierra! I thought you were done using me and had blocked my number!โ
It was Kasonโs voice. Sierra raised an eyebrow. Blocked? She had no idea about that.
โWhy would Iโฆ? Things went smoothly thanks to your help. But Kason, you benefited as well, didnโt you? You mustโve been pretty busy these past few days.โ
With the Xander family in ruins and Xander Pharmaceuticals collapsing, the Richardson family was undoubtedly taking the opportunity to devour its assets. Once Kason fully absorbed Xander Pharmaceuticals, his family would rise to new heights, making them unmatched in Maviston.
Kasonโs excited voice came through. โThatโs right. Iโve gained plenty. But Sierra, the thing I want most is you.โ
โWhen do you have time? Letโs meet.โ Sierraโs tone was indifferent. โAnd then?โ
โI have something youโll be interested in.โ Kasonโs voice was full of intrigue.
โOh, I hope you wonโt disappoint me.โ
Shortly after, Kasonโs car arrived, and Sierra got in. โWhat surprise do you have for me?โ She got straight to the point.
Kason didnโt answer right away. He merely glanced at her. Sierra was always like this around him: aloof, reserved, and elusive. And he loved that about her.
Noticing her slightly swollen lips, he reached out to touch them, only to have his hand slapped away.
1:52 PM
Sierra didnโt say a word; she just shot him a look. Kason immediately behaved, though he still muttered in dissatisfaction, โWhatโs so great about that bookworm?โ
Sierra leaned back against the seat, a playful smirk on her lips. โEverything. Heโs smart. And heโs good at everything.โ
Hearing her say this, Kason felt an odd sense of competitiveness. โThatโs because you havenโt tried me yet. Iโm better.โ
Sierra turned her head, giving him a sidelong glance. โIf youโre willing to let me, use you however I want, I wouldnโt mind.โ
โPil!โ Mateo Radeon, who was in another car, choked on his water. Jonathan shot him a look, and he quickly wiped up the mess, all while sneaking glances at Jonathan. No way, was the great Professor Yeager really this submissive? Getting played like that? Mateo felt like ants were crawling all over him. He was desperate to know more, but he didnโt dare ask.
Meanwhile, Jonathanโs expression was unreadable. Earlier, after handling school matters, he had gotten a call from Sierra, telling him not to follow because Kason wanted to meet her. He had been displeased. He didnโt want her anywhere near Kason. But Sierra insisted it was an opportunity to confirm something. In the end, he compromised and called in Mateo to set up a live feed of the meeting.
Even knowing Sierra was just playing along, Jonathan still felt annoyed. He wished she would talk to him the way she spoke to Kason. He could already picture the look in her eyes as she said those words. It was no wonder Kason was obsessed with her. Even Jonathan himself was struggling to hold back.
