Chapter 114: A Pointed Response
Just as Brendan was about to speak, Sierra suddenly made her move. No one knew how she did it, but by the time everyone reacted, Brendanโs neck was already slashed, blood streaming out.
Startled, then furious, Brendan aimed a kick at Sierra, but she anticipated it and dodged gracefully. She dusted off non-existent dirt from her clothing and scoffed, โI just said Iโm protective, and although I donโt know who you were referring to, I didnโt like what I heard. If Iโm not comfortable, no one else should be either.โ
With that, she glanced at Brendanโs blood-streaked neck and sneered, โConsider this a greeting gift from me; no need to thank me.โ
Leaving those words behind, Sierra turned and walked out, her commanding presence leaving everyone too intimidated to stop her. By the time people snapped to it, Sierra was already gone.
Fuming, Brendan barely contained his anger as he turned to a recently composed Kason. โMr. Kason, your guestโฆโ
Kason glanced at him and chuckled, โShe was actually holding back. Otherwise, Brendan might not be able to speak right now.โ Truth be told, Sierra intrigued him more with each encounter. She always managed to surprise him.
Hearing Kasonโs words, Brendan was disgruntled. โAre you defending her?โ
โBrendan, what are you talking about? Sheโs my fiancรฉe; if I donโt protect her, who will?โ
Understanding Kasonโs stance, Brendan was displeased but dared not clash with him. Externally, their friendship was reputed to be solid, but in reality, Brendanโs status couldnโt compare to the Richardson family; he relied on Kason. So, although it was hard to swallow, he had no choice but to endure. However, he still felt a twinge of resentment.
โSuch a fiery person; if Mr. Kason really brings her into the family, itโs going to turn everything upside down.โ
โThatโs precisely why itโs fun.โ
Kasonโs smile was particularly vile. โThe ones who just lie down and spread their legs for you, Mr. Brendan, you wouldnโt take a second look at either, right?โ
Brendan, reminded of something, nodded. โYou have a point.โ
The two exchanged a knowing look, sharing an understanding. Meanwhile, Sierra had just left the club and finally began to relax her tense body. Her sudden action had been driven by a boiling over of patienceโif possible, she would have loved nothing more than to snap that beastโs neck. Additionally, she wanted to pique Kasonโs interest; only then would he fall faster into her trap.
She opened her palm to reveal a sharply honed steel needle, always carried with herโa habit developed in prison, though back then, she only had a sharpened toothbrush. While todayโs display might hasten Kasonโs interest, it would also make him cautious. But her protective items werenโt limited to just one needle. Storing it away, Sierra began walking home.
After walking awhile, she sensed something offโshe was being followed. Expecting it to be Brendanโs men, she turned around only to see a familiar car, draining the color from her face.
Upon realizing sheโd been noticed, the car didnโt slow but drove up beside her and stopped. The window rolled down to reveal Shane, who checked his watch and said, โFive minutes! I followed you for a whole five minutes before you noticed! Seems like your alertness has dipped since you got out.โ
Sierra managed a strained smile. โNeed something?โ The last person she wanted to deal with was Shane, whose psychological impact on her was profoundly dark.
Shane lifted an eyelid to look at her and simply stated, โGet in.โ
Without hesitation, Sierra opened the passenger door and sat down. Pleased with her compliance, Shaneโs mood seemed to improve, even allowing a small smile to form.
โI hear youโve been leading an interesting life in Maviston these past few days.โ
โItโs been alright,โ Sierra responded cautiously. She didnโt know where Shane had been or why he appeared today; she was just on high alert.
โSo, I hear youโre getting engaged to Kason?โ
Shane glanced at her, his thoughts unclear, then chuckled, โGood choice.โ
Sierra remained silent; with Shane, silence was the safest response.
