Chapter 720 Signing Away

Freyaโ€™s voice was calm but persuasive. โ€œNot every problem has to be met head-on. If thereโ€™s a way to resolve things peacefully, why make life harder for yourself?โ€

Her eyes softened. โ€œWe canโ€™t stop worrying about you. Do you really expect us to believe you donโ€™t worry about us? If one of us needed your help, could you turn away?โ€

She leaned closer. โ€œNow that youโ€™re back, why not try it? See if life without shackles suits you. If it still feels wrong, if you still canโ€™t breatheโ€ฆ then even if we had thirty-six schemes, nothing could stop you from leaving again. Isnโ€™t that true?โ€

Her words cut deep. โ€œDonโ€™t punish yourself for other peopleโ€™s mistakes. Neither you nor Wyatt are the guilty onesโ€”the real culprits have already paid. The wronged should live brighter, better lives, so their suffering wasnโ€™t in vain. Clinging to the past foreverโ€“thatโ€™s just digging yourself into a dead end.โ€

Laurie and Freya took turns, left and right, their words echoing like a stereo channeling straight into Yuniceโ€™s ears.

Yunice didnโ€™t rebut a single sentence.

By the time theyโ€™d drained their throats and congratulated themselves on being so enlightened, they turned their headsโ€”

โ€œIs sheโ€ฆ asleep?โ€ Freya whispered.

Laurie glanced over. Yunice really was asleep, curled on her side, hands tucked under her cheek, her face soft in slumber.

Freya chuckled. โ€œOut like a baby.โ€

Laurie exhaled in exasperation. โ€œHer heartโ€™s too bigโ€ฆโ€

But then Freya murmured, โ€œAfter everything sheโ€™s been through, maybe this really is just a small bump in the road.โ€

They fell silent. The more they said it, the more their hearts ached for her.

When Yunice stirred awake, she rolled over and opened her eyes. Freya and Laurie were gone.

Wyatt sat beside her instead, one arm bandaged, hospital gown hanging loosely from his frame.

Their eyes met. Yunice blinked, fully awake now.

Wyattโ€™s face was unreadable as he spoke, his tone clipped. โ€œSo the divorce papers made you that happy, huh? Happy enough to sleep like a rock?โ€

So she really had gone abroad just to escape him.

Was she truly that disgustedโ€“so desperate to draw a line?

Yunice stayed silent.

Wyatt waited. When nothing came, he reached for the agreement. โ€œYou probably didnโ€™t read the whole thing last night. It covers property division tooโ€”โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t need your money,โ€ Yunice cut him off.

Sheโ€™d already benefited too much from him. She had no right to touch the marital assets.

Wyattโ€™s gaze flicked up sharply, his eyes narrowing. โ€œDonโ€™t flatter yourself. Iโ€™d never split things fifty-fifty. But I wonโ€™t have anyone calling me stingy either. Youโ€™re my ex-wifeโ€“at the very least, Iโ€™ll make the divorce look dignified.

His tone was matter-of-fact. โ€œIโ€™ll give you one hundred million, and Northpoint Hospital. To me, itโ€™s nothing. Donโ€™t waste your breath pretending to save me moneyโ€“I can earn that back in a day.

He added coolly, โ€œYou still have your fatherโ€™s old medical texts, your vision to advance traditional medicine. Northpointโ€™s the perfect stage for you. Of course, I hold the original shares. After you take over, Iโ€™ll expect yearly dividends. Thatโ€™s not unreasonable, is it?โ€

It wasnโ€™t. It sounded like she was being handed a gift.

When she didnโ€™t object, Wyatt slid the papers toward her. โ€œThen sign. Once itโ€™s done, we stay out of each otherโ€™s lives. You can marry whoever you want. I can marry whoever I want.โ€

Her heart stuttered. Marry someone else?

Was he serious?

Her eyes dropped to the page. She uncapped the pen, and without hesitation, signed her name.

Wyattโ€™s grip on the contract tightened. For a split second, he nearly yanked it back.

Click. Yunice capped the pen, set it down neatly on top of the signed agreement, then extended her hand. โ€œPleasure doing business.โ€

His gaze broke, lashes trembling, before he forced one corner of his mouth upward in a brittle smile.

He raised his chin, his face cold and distant, and gave her hand a perfunctory shake. Barely a taste of contact.

Yunice let go. Wyatt did not.

She looked up at him.

He kept his face hard, his eyes pinned not on her, but on their joined hands.

Several seconds later, he finally released her, stuffed the hand into his pocket, and strode for the door without looking back.

His voice came from the hall. โ€œHave Jordan take you home. The Saunders estate has already been restored.โ€

โ€œMaโ€™am. Ms. Yunice, weโ€™re here.โ€ Jordan parked in front of the Saunders residence.

As Yunice stepped out, he leaned from the window. โ€œOhโ€“and Mr. Wyatt told me to tell you, he already picked out staff and bodyguards for you. If you donโ€™t like them, you can replace them.โ€
