Chapter 719 Divorce Papers

At the hospital, Scar came to take Nora and Paul away, while Wyatt was wheeled into the clinic.

His wound needed to be disinfected and stitched, and he was put on an IV to bring down his fever.

Through it all, Wyatt never once released Yuniceโ€™s wrist.

Jordan, ever so "considerate," had the nurses pull up another bed flush against Wyattโ€™s, turning the space into something like a double bed. โ€œDoctor says itโ€™s just a subconscious reaction from the fever. Once he wakes up, heโ€™ll let go.โ€

Then he checked the time, stretched theatrically, and sighed. โ€œIโ€™ve been up two days and nights straight, Iโ€™m about to drop. Iโ€™ll take the night off and leave Wyatt in your care.โ€

With that, he slipped out, shutting the door behind him.

The room fell quiet.

Yunice lifted her gaze to the IV dripping overhead, then back down to Wyattโ€™s hand clamped tight around hers.

Her free hand hovered over his wrist. She was a doctor trained in traditional medicineโ€“she knew exactly which pressure points controlled which joints. One pinch, and his grip would fall awayโ€ฆ

โ€œYunice!โ€

The door banged open before she could act.

She jerked her hand back on instinct and looked up.

Freya and Victor stood in the doorway, their faces lighting up in unison. โ€œYou really came back!โ€

โ€œYou finally came to your senses! Isnโ€™t it better here?โ€

Caught off guard, Yunice froze. Sheโ€™d left without a word, and barely two weeks later, theyโ€™d found her already. Flustered, she stammered, โ€œFreya, Victorโ€ฆ what are you two doing here?โ€

Their surprise matched hers. โ€œDidnโ€™t you call us?โ€

โ€ฆSheโ€™d wanted to slip in quietly, unseen by anyone.

Freya frowned. โ€œJordan told us youโ€™d been gone half a month, that you missed home so badly you came back in tearsโ€“crying about how you missed us. Of course, we rushed here. What were we supposed to do, let you cry all night?โ€

Hurried footsteps echoed from the hallway.

Laurie swept in, white coat billowing like a storm. โ€œSo you do remember how to come back! Youโ€™ve abandoned your graduation project in the lab for half a month. You planning on not graduating?โ€

โ€œLaurieโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDonโ€™t call me that! When Iโ€™ve got this coat on, you address me by title.โ€ Her sharp eyes fell to the hands clasped together on the bed. โ€œWonderful. You ditch your research, disregard your mentor, and after one trip out you come back playing romance. Do you have any ambition at all? I shouldโ€™ve let your experiment mutate!โ€

She wasnโ€™t having a romance! If Wyatt hadnโ€™t locked onto her, she wouldnโ€™t have spared him a glance.

To prove her point, she tried shaking him off. And shockinglyโ€“he let go.

โ€ฆLet go?

Laurieโ€™s face hardened, full of disappointment. โ€œUnbelievable. My prized pupil, and you turn out to be ruled by romance.โ€

So much for her plan to slip away unnoticed.

Once Laurie and Freya arrived, they refused to leave. One sat to her left, the other to her right, sandwiching Yunice neatly between them, while Wyattโ€™s presence on the other bed didnโ€™t seem to matter at all.

Yunice suspected the whole group had conspired just to keep her under watch.

But Laurie and Freya truly cared for her, so she couldnโ€™t bring herself to snap.

Victor, standing politely nearby, added, โ€œMr. Carl doesnโ€™t know youโ€™ve returned. At his age, his sleep is poor. Weโ€™ll tell him in the morning.โ€

Yunice wanted to protestโ€“there was no need to tell him. She had never intended to stay.

But Victor, reading the room, excused himself. โ€œYou ladies talk. Iโ€™ll ask the nurses to bring in some extra chairs.โ€

She blinked. โ€œWhy?โ€

Laurie and Freya patted her hand warmly. โ€œWeโ€™ll stay with you tonight. Canโ€™t let you feel lonely.โ€

Yunice closed her eyes in resignation.

Sure enough, they soon unfolded two stiff chairs at her bedside, chatting comfortably as though it were the coziest setup in the world.

Laurie began, her tone firm. โ€œYunice, a woman has to be strong. You mustnโ€™t throw away your career halfwayโ€“itโ€™s the worst mistake.โ€

Freya added, โ€œAnd to sacrifice your degree, your future, your connections, your background for a manโ€“thatโ€™s even worse.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re only twenty-four. Life is long, opportunities are many. Isnโ€™t it too early to abandon yourself?โ€

Then she added, โ€œMr. Crawford said Wyatt promised him he wouldnโ€™t pester you. As long as you live a normal life, heโ€™s willing to remain friends.โ€

Laurie reached into her bag and produced a folder. โ€œThis is the divorce agreement. Wyattโ€™s already signed it. All it needs is your name, and itโ€™s done. From then on, youโ€™re no longer husband and wife. With Mr. Crawford as mediator, Wyatt wonโ€™t cross any lines.โ€

Yunice took the file hesitantly, her eyes widening as they fell on the signature at the bottom.

Wyattโ€™s name sprawled boldly across the page.

But hadnโ€™t he sworn heโ€™d never agree to divorce?
