Chapter 653 The Ones Who Pretend, The Ones Who Know

Yunice murmured, โ€œSheโ€™s moving in the opposite direction?โ€

She hadnโ€™t hidden in that trunk just to watch Nora be sent away.

Yunice had long suspected that Nora had been faking her condition these past few years.

What kind of healthy person could lie still on a hospital bed for three or four years straightโ€“unmoving, constantly cared for, with her privacy trampled on?

That kind of endurance, that kind of tenacityโ€“someone like that wouldnโ€™t crumble easily under pressure.

So, to test Noraโ€™s choices and clear any future threats, Yunice had slipped a tracker into the bag Wyatt had prepared for Nora while riding in the trunk.

The bag contained Noraโ€™s documents. There was no way sheโ€™d throw it away.

Sure enough, not even thirty minutes had passed before the red dot began to driftโ€ฆ backward.

Yunice frowned. Should I tell Wyatt?

Elsewhere, Jordan stepped out of a company meeting and made an urgent call to Wyatt.

โ€œWyatt, just as you predictedโ€“Nora didnโ€™t stay put. Sheโ€™s already reconnected with Paul. He picked her up at sea and is secretly bringing her back to Silverburgh.โ€

Wyatt sneered. โ€œFool.โ€

Jordan agreed. โ€œYou canโ€™t bargain with a beast. Noraโ€™s lost it. She used to be a victimโ€“now sheโ€™s siding with her abuser, becoming just like him. Itโ€™s sick.โ€

Wyatt said coldly, โ€œKeep eyes on her. I donโ€™t care who she wants revenge onโ€“but the moment she threatens Yunice, deal with her. Immediately.โ€

Jordan replied, โ€œUnderstood.โ€

After hanging up, Wyattโ€™s unease deepened. He called Laurie next.

โ€œItโ€™s been four hours. Why havenโ€™t I heard anything from Yunice?โ€

Had Laurie even played the damn recording?

Laurie, slurping spaghetti with her phone squeezed between her neck and shoulder, mumbled, โ€œThe recording? Oh, I asked her dormmate to drop it off. If she hasnโ€™t responded, she probably hasnโ€™t seen it yet.โ€

Wyatt gritted his teeth. โ€œYou said youโ€™d talk to her yourself. That was your idea of โ€˜personallyโ€˜?!โ€

Laurie replied lazily, โ€œI meant to, but she wasnโ€™t around. Yuniceโ€™s not a cat you can just scoop up anytime. Sheโ€™s got her own life. Sheโ€™s not at anyoneโ€™s beck and call.

And if youโ€™re so desperate, why donโ€™t you call her yourself? Why yell at me? Oh- waitโ€“could it be the mighty devil of Silverburgh isโ€ฆ too scared?โ€

She cackled.

Wyatt barked back, โ€œStuff your face, why donโ€™t you! Surprised you havenโ€™t choked to death!โ€

And hung up.

Still chewing, Laurie scoffed. โ€œUgh. Talk to me like that? Fine. Your problem now.โ€

She smirked and dialed Yuniceโ€™s number. โ€œLetโ€™s see how you like this. Iโ€™ll jam her line. Letโ€™s see how many missed calls you rack up while Iโ€™m keeping her busy.โ€

After just three rings, Yunice picked up.

Laurie grinned to herself. Too slow, Wyatt. You snooze, you lose.

โ€œLaurie? Whatโ€™s up?โ€

Still twirling her pasta, Laurie replied through a mouthful of meat sauce, โ€œSomething big. Real big.โ€

Yuniceโ€™s voice immediately turned serious. โ€œGo ahead.โ€

Laurie took another bite and said nonchalantly, โ€œI went to see Wyatt today.โ€

Yunice already knew that. Sheโ€™d followed Laurie and discovered Wyatt had sent Nora away.

Laurie continued, โ€œWe had a deep chat. I even asked why he let Nora goโ€ฆ Oh, and by the way, he said heโ€™s been in love with you since he hit puberty at twelve. Total creep.โ€

Then she blurted, โ€œLaurie!โ€

Laurie chuckled wickedly. โ€œIโ€™m not kidding. If you donโ€™t believe me, go listen to the recording. Your dormmate left it for youโ€“inside the stuffed toy by your bed. Oh, and Wyatt cursed me out just now, so donโ€™t you dare answer his calls for the next three tries. If you do, Iโ€™m failing your lab report.โ€

Yunice sat stunned as Laurie hung up with a quick, โ€œIโ€™m done talking.โ€

Just then, the bald man pulled the car to a stop. โ€œMaโ€™am, weโ€™re at the med school.โ€

He scratched his head sheepishly. โ€œI wonโ€™t walk you in. Donโ€™t wanna scare your classmates with my face, haha.โ€

Yunice got out alone, still mulling over the recording Laurie mentioned.

What would Wyatt say on it?

For once, she skipped class entirely and headed straight back to the dorm.

โ€œYunice? Donโ€™t you have class today?โ€ Jennie was in front of the mirror, touching up her makeup. She had no classes and was heading out for a date.

Yunice fibbed, saying she wasnโ€™t feeling well, then climbed onto her bed and casually asked, โ€œHey, did anyone ask you to drop something off for me?โ€
