Chapter 640 The Tables Turn
Ms. Laurie tore open a bag of freeze-dried jackfruit as she casually answered, โYeah, I had her run a small experiment for me, then asked her to write a reflection on it.โ
She tossed the vice principal a bland, professional smile. โFirst time mentoring a student. Gotta find someone to practice on, right?โ
The vice principal stood there with his mouth half-open, unsure how to respond.
Ms. Laurie glanced at Yunice again and added, โCome on over. Donโt get in the way of the vice principal resolving your little class conflict.โ
She gave the vice principal another half-hearted smile as she chewed.
Yunice looked at him uncertainly, then slowly made her way to Ms. Laurieโs side.
That was when Wendy, who had been glaring the whole time, finally snapped. She grabbed Yunice and cried out, โVice Principal! Who even is this Ms. Laurie? Why should we believe anything she says? Does she have any proof?โ
Still lounging at her desk, Ms. Laurie popped another piece of jackfruit into her mouth, crossed her legs, and leaned back as if this whole affair was mildly amusing.
โWhatโs even going on here?โ she asked, chewing.
Wendy stood her ground. โI donโt care who you are โ youโre lying! Yunice was with Mr. Tommy this afternoon!โ
The vice principal tugged at her sleeve, trying to signal her to stop.
But before the tension could thicken, Tommy spoke up. โThatโs not true. I was with Wendy this afternoon! She locked me in the supply room and drugged me!โ
Ms. Laurie glanced up and down at Wendy while chewing.
She looked at each of them in turn, like she was at a produce stand. โSoโฆ Wendy says Yunice was with Mr. Tommy.โ
Then at Tommy: โAnd you say Wendy was the one with you.โ
She chuckled. โThis much drama over something so small?โ
She kept chewing and asked Wendy, โSo where were you this afternoon?โ
โMe?โ Wendy hadnโt expected the tables to turn. She yanked her bestie Brynn over. โI was with my best friend! She can vouch for me!โ
Ms. Laurie spun slightly in her chair. โDidnโt you say Yunice kicked you and injured you badly? So you spent the afternoon in the infirmary with your bestie, huh?โ
Wendy didnโt get it, but eager to prove her alibi, she nodded confidently.
Ms. Laurie smiled. โThatโs just your word. Why not check the security footage? Thatโd be more convincing, donโt you think, Vice Principal?โ
The vice principal froze for a beat, trying to read her intentions.
Wendy frowned. Why is my uncle acting so cautious around this woman? Who the hell is she?
Reluctantly, the vice principal pulled up the infirmary footage in front of everyone.
The footage showed both Yunice and Wendy stopping by the infirmary during break. But as the vice principal tried to skip ahead by dragging the progress bar forward two hoursโฆ
Yunice suddenly reached out and pressed down on his hand. โWait!โ
She stared at the paused frame, eyes narrowing. Then she turned slowly to Brynn, her tone confused. โSoโฆ it was you who took my phone? Why would you do that?โ
Brynn flushed bright red. She took a step forward and saw clearly on the screen: her hand, reaching into Yuniceโs bag and taking her phone.
She turned in panic to Wendy โ but Wendy looked away, refusing to meet her eyes.
She wasnโt going to cover for her.
Ms. Laurie mused, โSo, Wendy, your friend likes taking peopleโs stuff without asking, huh?โ
She glanced at Yunice. โThatโs the newest Huawei, right? Even used, thatโs gotta be worth eight, nine thousand. Definitely enough for a criminal case.โ
Brynn trembled, eyes pleading with Wendy for help.
Wendy said awkwardly, โBrynn just made a mistake. Weโre all classmates โ thereโs no need to call the cops over something small. Itโs not like she wasnโt going to give it backโฆโ
โSo you think stealing someoneโs property is fine?โ Yunice snapped. โNo wonder you all accused me earlier, saying I didnโt answer the phone because I was guilty. Youโd already set a trap for me to fall into!โ
โGood thing I ran into Ms. Laurie. Without her, no one couldโve proven I had an alibi, and Iโd be stuck with Mr. Tommy, smeared beyond repair!โ
The students watching began murmuring.
โShe knew her friend stole the phone, then tried to call Yunice โ how was Yunice supposed to answer?โ
โExactly. Why steal someoneโs phone in the first place?โ
Wendy, sensing her defense unraveling, pointed at her own nose. โThen how do you explain this injury? You think I did it to myself?โ
Yunice stared at her calmly. โWho knows? Maybe you did something shady and ran off in a panicโฆ smacked right into a wall?โ
