Chapter 639 The Unexpected Witness

The police agreed with Tommyโ€™s reasoning and asked the vice principal to page Yunice over the schoolโ€™s PA system.

For ten full minutes, the announcement echoed through every corner of campus, calling Yunice to report to the administrative office.

The vice principal said, โ€œThereโ€™s no way she didnโ€™t hear that. If she still doesnโ€™t come, it proves sheโ€™s running from the truth.โ€

Tommy immediately asked, โ€œSo if she shows up, that proves her innocence?โ€

โ€œOf course not,โ€ the vice principal replied. โ€œAt the very least, sheโ€™ll need someone to verify she wasnโ€™t with you at the time. Thatโ€™s what matters.โ€

The police nodded. That kind of alibi would be critical.

They had already checked the surveillance system, and it just so happened the cameras in the supply building were down. So there was no video of who entered or exited.

Some students had witnessed the sceneโ€“but they had shown up late and only saw the aftermath. That didnโ€™t rule out the possibility that Yunice had been there and escaped earlier.

They needed a solid alibi.

Knock knock.

A polite knock came from the office door.

Everyone turned to look. A delicate, attractive girl stood there. โ€œYou just called me over the broadcast?โ€

Yuniceโ€™s eyes calmly swept over the crowded room as if she had no idea what was going on, her expression composed and unreadable.

Wendy curled her lip. "She's really going to pretend nothing happened?"

The vice principal didnโ€™t explain the reason for the summon. He simply asked sternly, โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you answer your phone?โ€

Yunice frowned slightly. โ€œSomeone stole my phone. I havenโ€™t had time to replace it yet.โ€

Wendy scoffed, โ€œWhat a convenient time to lose it.โ€

Yunice frowned deeper but said nothing.

Some students gave her strange looks, clearly suspecting she was lying.

The vice principalโ€™s face grew colder. โ€œYou skipped class this afternoon. Where were you?โ€

Yunice lowered her head, looking dejected. โ€œDuring break, Wendy got hurt and accused me of kicking her. The teacher told me to go to the infirmary and said Iโ€™d be punishedโ€ฆโ€

Wendy hadnโ€™t expected her to use that as a cover. She immediately retorted, โ€œSo thatโ€™s your excuse? Using me to cover for your little secret meeting? Ask the substitute teacher! Yunice only stayed at the infirmary for five minutes. Where was she the rest of the afternoon?โ€

Yunice stayed silent.

Wendy beamed. โ€œSee? She has no answer!โ€

The vice principal narrowed his eyes. โ€œYunice, were you with Mr. Tommy in the supply room this afternoon? What were you two doing?โ€

Wendy watched Yunice smugly, waiting to see how sheโ€™d weasel out of this.

Yunice finally looked up with uncertainty. โ€œVice Principal, I donโ€™t understandโ€ฆ Supply room? Why would I be with Mr. Tommy?โ€

The vice principal raised his voice. โ€œThen tell meโ€“where were you this afternoon?โ€

Knock knock.

Another knock at the door.

The vice principal, now impatient, barked, โ€œOut!โ€

A womanโ€™s voice answered with a chuckle. โ€œWhatโ€™s got the vice principal so riled up today?โ€

She stepped into the room, casting a glance around. โ€œQuite the crowd.โ€

The vice principal turned and immediately lost all his fire. His expression shifted to one of alarmed respect. โ€œMs. Laurie?โ€

The woman raised an eyebrow at him and casually made her way to her desk. Her posture was effortless, as if the chaos around her had nothing to do with her.

She wore a flowing robe, her hair braided tightly into a scorpion tail plait, held in place by a metal clasp.

โ€œMs. Laurie? Whoโ€™s that? Since when do we have someone like her on staff?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s incredible. Look at that presence. Is she a visiting professor?โ€

Ms. Laurie adjusted the hem of her robe before sitting gracefully. Not a single wrinkle appeared in the fabricโ€“its quality and her poise were unmistakable.

Once seated, she looked back over her shoulder through the crowd, her voice low and magnetic. โ€œYunice, what are you standing there for? Come over here. Why are you gawking at the spectacle?โ€

Yunice hesitated, glancing at the vice principal like she wasnโ€™t sure who to listen to.

That single sentence from Ms. Laurie left the vice principal dumbstruck.

Waitโ€“how did a regular student like Yunice know Ms. Laurie?

Ms. Laurie explained, โ€œOh, she helped me find my way to the lab this afternoon. I noticed she was a clever girl, so I kept her around to help with some tasks.โ€

She looked to the vice principal. โ€œThatโ€™s not against the rules, is it?โ€

He blinked, then immediately replied out of instinct, โ€œOf course not! Absolutely not!โ€

Then his eyes widened. โ€œWaitโ€“Ms. Laurie, did you just say Yunice was with you this afternoon?โ€
