Chapter 557 The Man Who Saved Her

To be honest, Elianna was pretty disappointed in Wyatt. Ever since she realized he was stringing along two women, his image in her heart had come crashing down from the heavens.

She paced her room restlessly, then took out her fatherโ€™s portrait and carefully wiped it clean again.

Though he had passed away three years ago, that frame was spotless. It was her spiritual anchor.

As she rambled softly to her fatherโ€™s photo, a knock came at the door.

Thinking it was a maid delivering lunch, Elianna didnโ€™t even look up. โ€œCome in.โ€

The doorknob turned, and Yunice stepped inside.

Seeing Eliannaโ€™s back to her, Yunice stopped at a distance and said, โ€œElianna.โ€

Elianna flinched and spun around. โ€œWhy is it you?!โ€

Startled, she shot to her feet, and the portrait in her hands slipped and fell to the floor.

Yunice quickly moved to pick it up. But when her eyes landed on the photo, she froze.

Elianna snapped back to her senses and snatched the portrait away, holding it behind her. โ€œWhat are you trying to do with my dadโ€™s picture?!โ€

Yunice gave a quiet laugh. โ€œWhat could I possibly do to a photo?โ€

She looked at it again. โ€œThatโ€™s your dad?โ€

There was something strange in Yuniceโ€™s eyesโ€“something Elianna couldnโ€™t quite read. Frowning, she didnโ€™t answer but looked deeply guarded.

Yuniceโ€™s voice warmed, a faint joy in her tone. โ€œDid you know? Your father saved my life four years ago. I still remember him. He left his coat in my carโ€“Iโ€™ve kept it at the dry cleaner this whole time, and Iโ€™ve always meant to return it to him with his phoneโ€ฆโ€

Her words faltered.

This was a memorial portrait.

Eliannaโ€™s father was already gone. He had died in the steel mill accident, sacrificing himself to prevent a catastrophe and save hundreds of workers.

The man Yunice had long wanted to thank hadโ€ฆ quietly passed away.

Her throat tightened. When she looked at Elianna again, her gaze was full of reverenceโ€“like she was seeing a treasured relic of someone irreplaceable.

Elianna was creeped out. She shouted, โ€œWhatโ€™s with that look?! And when the hell did my dad save you? Stop trying to manipulate meโ€“Iโ€™m not falling for any of it! I donโ€™t care about you and Wyatt. Just leave me out of it!โ€

Trying to prove herself, Yunice continued, โ€œBack then, your dad was driving a red Hongqi H9. The license plate was all matching numbersโ€ฆโ€

Elianna sneered. โ€œThatโ€™s Wyattโ€™s car. Anyone in Beijing knows that.โ€

โ€œMy dad was Wyattโ€™s driver. Of course youโ€™d know the plate number.โ€

Yunice said firmly, โ€œHe was driving that car when he saved me on Xiangjiang Road.โ€

Elianna rolled her eyes. โ€œEven more impossible.โ€

Yunice frowned. โ€œWhy are you so sure?โ€

โ€œBecause youโ€™re lying,โ€ Elianna said sharply. โ€œThat car was Wyattโ€™s personal vehicle. Itโ€™s not registered under the company, and no one can track it. He only uses it for private trips. Normally, he drives it himself. My dad wasnโ€™t even allowed to ride in it.โ€

She paused and narrowed her eyes. โ€œThere were a few rare exceptions when he let my dad driveโ€“but Wyatt was always there.โ€

She stared Yunice down. โ€œSo if my dad was driving when he saved you, then you mustโ€™ve seen Wyatt. Did you?โ€

Then she added coldly, โ€œI donโ€™t believe for a second that if youโ€™d seen him, you wouldnโ€™t remember.โ€

And she was right.

Yunice hadnโ€™t seen anyone else that night.

All she remembered was Eliannaโ€™s father stepping out like a beam of light. That moment was burned into her memory.

Still, she pressed. โ€œThere wasnโ€™t even one exception?โ€

She couldnโ€™t believe that Eliannaโ€™s father had never driven that car alone.

If Wyatt had been there, why didnโ€™t he remember it when I brought it up?

Elianna said, โ€œDonโ€™t believe me? Letโ€™s check.โ€

Yunice blinked. โ€œCheckโ€ฆ how?โ€

Elianna pulled a phone out from a drawer. โ€œIโ€™m a coward. My dad used to send me a message every time he left the house.โ€

โ€œWhen exactly did this happen?โ€

Yunice replied, โ€œFebruary 3rd, 20XX. Around 11:30 PM.โ€

Elianna typed quickly, searching her chat history. Her eyes lingered on the screen.

Yunice leaned in. On the screen were the following messages:

โ€œSweetheart, go to bed early. I will be home really late tonight.โ€

Elianna: โ€œHow late?โ€

Dad: โ€œAround 1 or 2 in the morning.โ€

Elianna: โ€œThatโ€™s not late at all. Iโ€™ll wait up. I want a midnight snack!โ€

Dad: โ€œBe good. Donโ€™t stay up.โ€

Yuniceโ€™s eyes drifted to the timestampโ€“just after midnight.

Her chest tightened. The timing matched exactly.
