Chapter 500 The Chain Breaks First

Wyatt crooked a finger at Yunice, signaling her to come over.

Yunice wasnโ€™t about to lose the upper handโ€“she walked over.

Wyatt hooked his arm around her neck, his hand brushing lightly through her hair, his fingers pressing faintly against the back of her neck.

โ€œYou donโ€™t know how to love, youโ€™re not planning to like me, so why bother fighting with me?โ€

โ€œWhateverโ€™s going on between me and Nora has nothing to do with you. Why make me angry over something like that? What are you trying to prove?โ€

Maybe you like me a littleโ€“but just donโ€™t realize it?

Yunice frowned. โ€œWomen donโ€™t make things harder for other women. If you belong to Nora, then I wonโ€™t try to take you.โ€

Wyatt said, โ€œI donโ€™t belong to anyone. Who I choose depends on how I feel. If I donโ€™t choose her, what can you do about it?โ€

โ€ฆThat didnโ€™t sound right. Was he seriously trying to justify cheating?

Wyattโ€™s fingers brushed across the red mark on Yuniceโ€™s neck, his gaze darkening.

โ€œYouโ€™re not obedient at all. Iโ€™ve decidedโ€“Iโ€™m not letting you go see Nora.โ€

Yunice said, โ€œYou liar!โ€

Wyatt stood up, unconcerned. โ€œWouldnโ€™t be the first time.โ€

Whether or not he kept his promises depended on his mood. Either way, he had plenty of ways to keep Yunice from running off.

He nudged the disassembled gun parts on the floor and added, โ€œStop contacting that friend of yours who gave you the gun. Or Iโ€™ll take them down too.โ€

Yunice didnโ€™t respond.

She watched Wyattโ€™s back and thought, Youโ€™re a monster? Well, Iโ€™m not much better myself.

Yunice stayed in the room and didnโ€™t leave.

Wyatt headed to the living room. A servant came over to report, โ€œSir, Ms. Nora has been standing outside for a long timeโ€ฆ It looks like itโ€™s going to rain soonโ€ฆโ€

Wyatt didnโ€™t reply. He simply tapped his phone and pulled up the security feed for Gardison Residence. The camera clearly showed tears at the corner of Noraโ€™s eyes and her trembling fingers.

It meant that after two years in a coma, the vegetative patient was starting to show signs of waking.

Wyattโ€™s eyes darkened, and for the first time, his emotions grew complicated.

Suddenlyโ€“thudโ€“a loud sound.

He frowned immediately. โ€œWhat was that?โ€

The servant said nervously, โ€œIt sounded like it came from your bedroomโ€ฆโ€

Yunice?

Wyatt shot to his feet and rushed back to the room, flinging the door open.

The room was empty.

The balcony door was wide open, sheer curtains blowing in the wind.

Wyatt rushed to the balcony. There, tied to the railing, was a makeshift rope of bedsheets, its end swaying in the wind.

Yunice had escaped.

Wyattโ€™s fingers tightened around the railing. โ€œYouโ€™re running off with a fever? Seriously?โ€

Yunice drove away from the west wing. Just as she reached the gates, a figure suddenly threw themselves onto her hood.

She hit the brakes out of instinct.

But the momentum still knocked the person back with a bangโ€“they slammed onto the hood.

Yunice frowned and glanced at her rearview mirror.

She was worried Wyatt might catch up, but she couldnโ€™t just ignore the person sheโ€™d hit.

Eventually, she got out to check on them. She helped the person up, and two voices spoke at once: โ€œYou?!โ€

Yunice and Maine let go of each other immediately.

Maine had seen a car coming out and thought it was Wyattโ€™s. Her first instinct had been to stop it.

Yunice had no idea Maine had been waiting there, which was how she ended up hitting her.

Maine, limping, hobbled over to Yuniceโ€™s window and peeked in. When she saw Wyatt wasnโ€™t inside, she scowled. โ€œJust my damn luck!โ€

Then she snapped at Yunice, โ€œWhy is it just you? Whereโ€™s Wyatt?โ€

Yunice gave her a onceโ€“over and replied with another question, โ€œYouโ€™re here for Nora, arenโ€™t you? Is she waking up soon?โ€

Maine let out a cold laugh. โ€œSo you already know.โ€

โ€œIf Nora wakes up, you think thereโ€™ll still be a place for you?โ€

Yunice replied, โ€œIf sheโ€™s that important, then why have you been here all this time, waiting for Wyatt but not finding him?โ€

Maineโ€™s eyes flashed with anger. She gritted her teeth. โ€œAre you gloating?โ€

Yunice glanced back in the direction of the west wing. โ€œI donโ€™t have time to argue with you. I want to see Nora. Take me.โ€

Maine eyed her warily. โ€œWhy? Youโ€™re not planning to hurt her, are you?โ€

Nora was as fragile as an ant right now. All it would take was pulling her oxygen tube and she could suffocate to death.

Yunice leaned against the car door. โ€œI think we should talk.โ€

Maineโ€™s eyes shifted, and then she frowned and climbed into the car. โ€œGood. I have things to say to you too.โ€

Yunice jumped in quickly, then started driving away.

Soon enough, Maine realized the route was wrong. Grabbing her bracelet, she demanded, โ€œWhere are you taking me? Iโ€™m warning youโ€“if anything happens to me, Wyatt wonโ€™t let you off!โ€

Yunice glanced at her and thought she might be a bit paranoid.

โ€œI snuck out. If I donโ€™t take a detour, heโ€™ll find me in no time.โ€
