Chapter 499 Whoโ€™s Holding the Chain

Wyatt stood in the side room, watching Freya leave. Once she was gone, he finally returned to the bedroom. He didnโ€™t know whether the long conversation with Freya had helped Yunice come to her senses.

Wyatt shifted slightly and pushed the bedroom door open just a crack to peek inside. Then his pupils contracted sharplyโ€”he rushed in and grabbed Yuniceโ€™s wrist. With one swift motion, he yanked her hand to the side. The gun in her grip flew out and landed in his.

In an instant, his voice trembled with rage as he roared at her, โ€œWhat the hell were you doing?!โ€

He had just opened the door to see Yunice holding a gun under her chin! Wyatt lost it. He stared at the gun in his hand like it was poison, then promptly disassembled it and threw the parts aside. โ€œYou think this is gonna scare anyone?!โ€

It wouldnโ€™t scare anyoneโ€”except him.

Yunice stared at Wyatt, her expression unreadable. Maybe he hadnโ€™t looked carefully, but the magazine was empty. She had no intention of dying for a manโ€”but she also didnโ€™t want what happened last night to happen again. She just wanted to see, between her and Wyatt, who really held the power.

Wyattโ€™s reaction was strange. Out of love comes worry. Out of love comes fear. Why was he so furious? Why was he so emotional?

Maine had said she was just a substitute. A substitute was just an objectโ€”if it disappeared, you could find another. So why was he acting like this?

Or maybeโ€ฆ the original meant too much, so even the copy became precious.

Yunice wanted to get to the bottom of itโ€”for herself, and for Nora. Her eyes were red as she silently watched Wyatt rage.

After Wyatt finished snapping, he turned and clutched Yuniceโ€™s wrist again. โ€œWhat did Freya say to you?โ€

Wyatt knew no secret stayed hidden forever. If Yunice could dig something up, others probably could too.

โ€œYou think pulling a trigger is gonna get you away from me?โ€ He gritted his teeth. โ€œLet me tell youโ€”itโ€™s not gonna happen. The moment you drop dead, Iโ€™ll bury everyone in your contact list right next to you.โ€

Yunice stared at him in frustration. Her circle was smallโ€”he was basically part of it.

Wyatt didnโ€™t notice the implication. All he cared about was smashing any thought she had of dying. Hands on his hips, he stormed around the room. He went over every possibility in his head and still couldnโ€™t figure it out. That small thingโ€”why couldnโ€™t she let it go?

He walked back over, grabbed Yuniceโ€™s chin, and forced her to look at him. โ€œTalk. I want to hear your reason.โ€

Yunice stared stubbornly at him, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. โ€œYou raped me.โ€

โ€œYou know the law? Iโ€™ve got a marriage license.โ€

Yunice replied, โ€œIf itโ€™s against a womanโ€™s will, itโ€™s still rapeโ€”even in marriage.โ€

โ€œI touched you because I like you. You think I married you just to use you as a good luck charm?โ€

Yunice looked up and said, enunciating clearly, โ€œYouโ€™re gaslighting me.โ€

Wyatt scowled. โ€œDonโ€™t throw foreign words at me. I donโ€™t know what that means.โ€

Then he let go of her wrist, but the more Yunice pulled away, the more determined he became to lie beside her. He rested on his arm and didnโ€™t even care whether she might try anything again. He simply said, almost defiantly, โ€œDoesnโ€™t matter. Even if you die, it doesnโ€™t matter.โ€

The more indifferent he acted, the more Yunice looked at him.

Wyatt said, โ€œForgot to tell youโ€”I already had your eggs sent overseas. In ten months, Iโ€™ll have a pair of twins.โ€

This time, it was Yunice who was stunned. She slowly stood upโ€”for real this time, not as an act.

Wyatt was satisfied with her reaction. โ€œIโ€™ve been planning this for a while. Joe said you couldnโ€™t have kids, so I found someone else to carry them.โ€

โ€œThey say having children ties a woman down. I want to see if that works on you.โ€

Yunice stared at him like he was insane. โ€œYou have no bottom line, do you?โ€

Wyatt was silent for a moment, then looked at her sideways. โ€œIs this your first day knowing me?โ€

Yuniceโ€™s mind went back to the first time they met. Back then, they were just kids. Wyatt had been raised in a little courtyard where [he] couldnโ€™t even get a bite of meat.

Paul had slipped a venomous snake through the door crack to scare himโ€”but Wyatt had sat calmly in the yard, skinned it, gutted it, and turned it into dinner.

That scene left a deep impression on Yunice. A person who wants to survive will grind down the stones thrown at them and swallow the dust.

Someone like that would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.

She thought of the snake tattoo on his waist. Maybe from the moment he got it, he had already decided to control everything.

Marriage was a power struggle. For longโ€“term peace, one side had to dominate.

Wyatt wanted to control herโ€”and she wanted to control him too.

If you donโ€™t want to lose, you have to be the crueler one.

Both of them had been scarred by their families. People like them had complicated feelings about children. Theyโ€™d try to give their kids all the love they never got themselves.

Wyatt might love his children deeply in the future. And he figured Yunice would too.

That was why he wanted to tie her downโ€”with their children.
