Chapter 464: The Trap

As soon as Owen spoke, Lilyโ€™s eyes flew wide open. He hadnโ€™t denied his relationship with Peggyโ€”instead, he stressed that she couldnโ€™t possibly be pregnant.

Which meant... theyโ€™d already...

Lily let out a loud groan and slapped her leg. โ€œWhat is wrong with your judgment?! Have you lost your mind, bringing a lunatic like her into this house?!โ€

She grabbed Owen and dragged him upstairs, sobbing.

โ€œCome with me!โ€

Peggy, realizing they were teaming up against her, just rolled her eyes and didnโ€™t bother stopping them.

She lazily flopped onto the couch and began snacking on fruit, gently rubbing her flat stomach, a calculating glint in her eye.

At that moment, a figure entered from outsideโ€”Elsie walked in pitifully, her hands scraped and holding a pile of shattered antique porcelain.

Peggy glanced over and said through a mouthful of grapes, โ€œYour mom and brother are upstairs. No oneโ€™s watching your little performance.โ€

Elsie was genuinely aggrieved. She had never been treated like this in the Saunders family.

Sheโ€™d thought that once Peggy married into the family, they could toy with her as they pleasedโ€”make life difficult until she couldnโ€™t take it and asked for a divorce.

But neither she nor Owen had anticipated that Peggy was not only physically strong but also fiercely aggressive. When they fought, she handled them like chickensโ€”grabbing one in each hand without breaking a sweat.

Yesterday, the moment Peggy arrived, she beat the two of them into submission, then ransacked the house, claiming whatever she liked and tossing aside what she didnโ€™t.

If either Elsie or Owen so much as defied her, sheโ€™d smash something immediately.

It was obviousโ€”she was testing their obedience.

They even tried calling the police, but the authorities said Peggy hadnโ€™t caused any bodily harm, and since she had a marriage certificate, it was just a domestic dispute. Couples fighting and breaking things wasnโ€™t unusual. Not only did they refuse to punish Peggy, they even lectured Elsie, telling her to be more accommodating and not provoke tension in her brotherโ€™s marriage.

The two of them were left hopelessโ€”this woman was a walking disaster.

On the couch, Peggy absentmindedly wiped grape juice from her fingers and suddenly had another idea. โ€œElsie, now that Momโ€™s back, thereโ€™s one more person in the house. Weโ€™ve only got four bedroomsโ€”youโ€™re not seriously going to make an old lady sleep on the couch, right?โ€

Elsie froze, immediately grasping Peggyโ€™s implication, and exploded. โ€œYou want me to give up my room and sleep on the couch?!โ€

Peggy paused, then clapped her hands like she had a lightbulb moment. โ€œNo, no, that wonโ€™t work. Youโ€™ll need a place to change and shower, right?โ€

Her eyes swept across the house and finally landed on the tiny maidโ€™s room that Yunice used to stay in. Her eyes lit up. โ€œAh, that oneโ€™s perfect for you!โ€

She clapped her hands again, sealing her decision. โ€œMove in there now.โ€

Then her expression darkened. โ€œEverything in this house belongs to me now. Donโ€™t let me catch you hiding anything. Or elseโ€ฆโ€

Peggy raised her fist and threatened to break Elsieโ€™s legs.

Elsie was about to explode.

That tiny maidโ€™s room was dark and stuffy, with only one small ventilation window!

She used to throw Yunice in there as punishmentโ€”why should she have to live there?!

And werenโ€™t there four bedrooms? Her older brotherโ€™s room was still empty!

After getting the marriage certificate, Owen hadnโ€™t wanted to share a bed with Peggy, so sheโ€™d slept in Lilyโ€™s room last nightโ€”which was how she managed to steal all of Lilyโ€™s valuables.

And now Peggy wanted to shove her into the maidโ€™s room too?

Peggy said, โ€œOscar might not come home often, but that roomโ€™s still his. You canโ€™t just move in. I donโ€™t only have one sister-in-law. When Yunice comes home to visit, that room is her place to stay.โ€

Elsie clenched her jaw, furious. โ€œYunice never comes back. We donโ€™t need to leave her a room!โ€

Peggy raised her brows. โ€œThat doesnโ€™t matter. Whether she comes or not is her choice. Leaving the room for her is my choice. If youโ€™re not happy about it, then throw me a wedding like she did. Then Iโ€™ll treat you just the same.โ€

Elsie snapped, โ€œIโ€ฆโ€

Peggy snorted and popped another grape into her mouth. โ€œCheapskate.โ€

Upstairs, Owen had just finished telling Lily the whole story of how he ended up marrying Peggy.

Lily was trembling with rage. โ€œThis is all Yuniceโ€™s setup! Her own lifeโ€™s a mess, so sheโ€™s dragging us down with her!โ€

She covered her face and cried. โ€œHow could she be so cruel? I nearly died giving birth to her. I thought she bailed me out because she still had some sliver of mother-daughter affection. But it turns out she just wanted me to come home and sufferโ€ฆโ€

She slammed a fist against Owenโ€™s shoulder, sobbing. โ€œYou stupid boy! How could you fall into her trap and bring that lunatic into our family? What are we supposed to do with the rest of our lives nowโ€ฆโ€
