Chapter 440 Truth Behind the Lies
โDid she ever tell you that she never slept with Paul? That it was all just Paul spreading rumors?โ
Owen sneered at the question, letting out a cold chuckle before firing back at Wyatt, โShe told you that too, didnโt she? Thatโs Yunice for youโalways saying one thing and doing another. Even if sheโs done it, sheโll swear she hasnโt. She just loves playing the victim. Iโve seen her do it too many timesโฆโ
Oscar immediately sensed something was off. He snatched the phone from Owen and spoke directly to Wyatt. โMr. Wyatt, what exactly are you saying? Is there more to the story? Did you find something?โ
Wyattโs voice was sharp and cold. โShouldnโt you brothers know best if there was more to the story?โ
Oscarโs voice darkened. โMr. Wyatt, I mean itโI want to know. Please tell me.โ
Wyatt answered flatly, โIf you want the truth, ask the man himself. Youโre all so close, right? If you can get a straight answer out of him, maybe we can talk about Lilyโs case.โ
Before either of them could respond, Wyatt ended the call.
Then he turned toward the exam room door.
A moment later, Joe stepped out. โSir.โ
Wyatt motioned for him to step aside so they could speak in private. They walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Joe glanced back toward the exam room and spoke quietly. โMs. Yunice is fine. Sheโs just been through long-term injury and recovery cycles. Her vitality is weakโwhen sheโs overworked, her body reacts.โ
Wyatt lit a cigarette, brows knotted with irritation. โSo sex is off-limits too?โ
Joe hesitated. โNot completely. Justโฆ the first time can be more intense.โ
The cigarette burned halfway down. Wyatt exhaled heavily. โSheโs turning into a porcelain doll.โ
He gave Joe a sidelong look. โCan she have children?โ
Joe winced. From Wyattโs expression, he could tell this wasnโt just curiosityโWyatt wanted Yunice to bear his child.
Which made the answer harder to say.
Wyattโs gaze darkened. โShe canโt, can she?โ
Joe struggled to respond before finally blurting out, โItโs not that she canโtโitโs just riskier for her than for others.โ
โAndโฆ with your build, sir, and her narrow pelvis, sheโs not suited to carry a large child. It increases the chances ofโฆ complications.โ
Wyattโs lips pressed into a tight line, his expression unreadable. โSo basically, weโre not compatible.โ
Joe wiped sweat from his forehead.
Wyatt didnโt speak again. He drew the cigarette to the filter, then crushed it against the smooth stone rim of the trash bin.
โSo what if she canโt? With modern science, you think Iโm worried about having kids?โ
Joe wisely chose silence.
Just then, Yunice stepped out of the exam room. After doing moxibustion, her fever had broken. Wyatt had insisted on the checkup just to be safe.
Seeing her come out, Wyatt walked straight to her and handed her the phone.
Back at Oscarโs lab, Owen was still pacing with frustration, not daring to call Yunice again for fear that Wyatt might answer.
Oscar eyed him coldly. โWyatt just gave you a second chance. And youโre still wasting it?โ
Owen snapped, โI already burned bridges with Paul! How am I supposed to ask him about Yunice?โ
He turned on Oscar with irritation. โEasy for you to talk. You donโt know how many times the Powell family has humiliated our family with Yuniceโs reputation!โ
โHer reputation was ruined by her own doing. Why do you think only the Johnson family was willing to take her in? No decent family wanted her!โ
โIf youโre so brave, you go ask him! Youโll see for yourself.โ
Oscar didnโt flinch. Tossing off his white coat, he said coldly, โFine. Iโll go. I donโt believe Wyatt wouldโve said all that for no reason.โ
Seeing him actually leave, Owen hesitatedโthen quickly followed.
To his surprise, Oscar received an address from Wyatt. Paulโs current location.
And when the two arrived, the guards simply let them in without question.
Owenโs heart sank. If Wyatt already had this much control, did the Powell family even stand a chance against him?
Inside, Paul lay in bed, encased in plaster, his face bandaged.
When he saw Oscar and Owen enter, he struggled upright, eyes filled with suspicion and hostility.
Owen stared in shock, barely recognizing the man under all those injuries. How did he end up like this?
Paulโs voice was hoarse with fury โWho let you in?โ
This was supposed to be his private recovery location. He hadnโt told anyoneโno one shouldโve known.
Except, of course, Wyatt.
