Chapter 440 Truth Behind the Lies

โ€œDid she ever tell you that she never slept with Paul? That it was all just Paul spreading rumors?โ€

Owen sneered at the question, letting out a cold chuckle before firing back at Wyatt, โ€œShe told you that too, didnโ€™t she? Thatโ€™s Yunice for youโ€“always saying one thing and doing another. Even if sheโ€™s done it, sheโ€™ll swear she hasnโ€™t. She just loves playing the victim. Iโ€™ve seen her do it too many timesโ€ฆโ€

Oscar immediately sensed something was off. He snatched the phone from Owen and spoke directly to Wyatt. โ€œMr. Wyatt, what exactly are you saying? Is there more to the story? Did you find something?โ€

Wyattโ€™s voice was sharp and cold. โ€œShouldnโ€™t you brothers know best if there was more to the story?โ€

Oscarโ€™s voice darkened. โ€œMr. Wyatt, I mean itโ€“I want to know. Please tell me.โ€

Wyatt answered flatly, โ€œIf you want the truth, ask the man himself. Youโ€™re all so close, right? If you can get a straight answer out of him, maybe we can talk about Lilyโ€™s case.โ€

Before either of them could respond, Wyatt ended the call.

Then he turned toward the exam room door.

A moment later, Joe stepped out. โ€œSir.โ€

Wyatt motioned for him to step aside so they could speak in private. They walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Joe glanced back toward the exam room and spoke quietly. โ€œMs. Yunice is fine. Sheโ€™s just been through long-term injury and recovery cycles. Her vitality is weakโ€“when sheโ€™s overworked, her body reacts.โ€

Wyatt lit a cigarette, brows knotted with irritation. โ€œSo sex is off-limits too?โ€

Joe hesitated. โ€œNot completely. Justโ€ฆ the first time can be more intense.โ€

The cigarette burned halfway down. Wyatt exhaled heavily. โ€œSheโ€™s turning into a porcelain doll.โ€

He gave Joe a sidelong look. โ€œCan she have children?โ€

Joe winced. From Wyattโ€™s expression, he could tell this wasnโ€™t just curiosityโ€“Wyatt wanted Yunice to bear his child.

Which made the answer harder to say.

Wyattโ€™s gaze darkened. โ€œShe canโ€™t, can she?โ€

Joe struggled to respond before finally blurting out, โ€œItโ€™s not that she canโ€™tโ€“itโ€™s just riskier for her than for others.โ€

โ€œAndโ€ฆ with your build, sir, and her narrow pelvis, sheโ€™s not suited to carry a large child. It increases the chances ofโ€ฆ complications.โ€

Wyattโ€™s lips pressed into a tight line, his expression unreadable. โ€œSo basically, weโ€™re not compatible.โ€

Joe wiped sweat from his forehead.

Wyatt didnโ€™t speak again. He drew the cigarette to the filter, then crushed it against the smooth stone rim of the trash bin.

โ€œSo what if she canโ€™t? With modern science, you think Iโ€™m worried about having kids?โ€

Joe wisely chose silence.

Just then, Yunice stepped out of the exam room. After doing moxibustion, her fever had broken. Wyatt had insisted on the checkup just to be safe.

Seeing her come out, Wyatt walked straight to her and handed her the phone.

Back at Oscarโ€™s lab, Owen was still pacing with frustration, not daring to call Yunice again for fear that Wyatt might answer.

Oscar eyed him coldly. โ€œWyatt just gave you a second chance. And youโ€™re still wasting it?โ€

Owen snapped, โ€œI already burned bridges with Paul! How am I supposed to ask him about Yunice?โ€

He turned on Oscar with irritation. โ€œEasy for you to talk. You donโ€™t know how many times the Powell family has humiliated our family with Yuniceโ€™s reputation!โ€

โ€œHer reputation was ruined by her own doing. Why do you think only the Johnson family was willing to take her in? No decent family wanted her!โ€

โ€œIf youโ€™re so brave, you go ask him! Youโ€™ll see for yourself.โ€

Oscar didnโ€™t flinch. Tossing off his white coat, he said coldly, โ€œFine. Iโ€™ll go. I donโ€™t believe Wyatt wouldโ€™ve said all that for no reason.โ€

Seeing him actually leave, Owen hesitatedโ€“then quickly followed.

To his surprise, Oscar received an address from Wyatt. Paulโ€™s current location.

And when the two arrived, the guards simply let them in without question.

Owenโ€™s heart sank. If Wyatt already had this much control, did the Powell family even stand a chance against him?

Inside, Paul lay in bed, encased in plaster, his face bandaged.

When he saw Oscar and Owen enter, he struggled upright, eyes filled with suspicion and hostility.

Owen stared in shock, barely recognizing the man under all those injuries. How did he end up like this?

Paulโ€™s voice was hoarse with fury โ€œWho let you in?โ€

This was supposed to be his private recovery location. He hadnโ€™t told anyoneโ€“no one shouldโ€™ve known.

Except, of course, Wyatt.
