Chapter 435 A Place She Belongs
"Donโt say thatโฆ"
Let anyone else go to hellโbut not her.
She hadnโt done anything wrong.
Wyatt burned with rageโrage at Paulโs lies, at himself for believing them, and most of all, for not taking Yunice with him when he had the chance, leaving her to face those animals alone.
Yunice gave a short, bitter laugh, then looked at Paul with icy calm. โYour punishment is only just beginning. Just wait.โ
Evil never goes unpunished. And she wasnโt the only one who wanted Paul dead.
โWyatt, letโs go.โ Yunice took his still-bleeding hand and led him out of the company.
Watching them leave, Taylor turned her glare on Paul, who was still kneeling in the middle of the hallway.
No one was coming to help him now.
As high heels clicked toward him, Paul looked up with a sneer. โWhat, you gonna kill me? Do it, and the Kendall familyโs finished.โ
Thinking of her late father, and his loyal assistant, Taylor clenched her jaw so hard it ached.
โPaul, youโre like a toad squatting on someoneโs footโcanโt bite, just disgusting.โ
โYunice was right. Killing someone like you would only dirty our hands. Itโs a long road aheadโletโs see how far you get.โ
She didnโt bother with him anymore and walked into the elevator alone.
Paul was left there, groaning in pain. His whole body ached as he tried to stand, but it was too much.
He reached for his phone to call someone from the Powell familyโonly to realize Wyatt had smashed it.
Ten minutes passed. No one came to help.
He couldnโt wait until dark when the company closed. He had to get out.
Gritting his teeth, he dragged himself up and limped into the elevator, pressing the button for the basement.
His car was parked there.
Barely able to stay upright, Paul leaned against the elevator wall, vision spinning. He watched the floor numbers drop one by one.
When the doors finally opened, he pushed himself to walkโonly to be greeted by the sound of cheering.
As soon as he stepped out, the cheering stopped cold.
He froze, stunned to see a crowd of employees holding glow sticks staring straight at him.
Most of the company staff were here.
It took them a moment, but someone finally recognized him by the badge on his bloodied chest.
โMrโฆ Mr. Paul?โ
The crowd tried to hold back their laughter, but some couldnโt help letting out stifled snorts.
Paulโs face went pale. He realized his humiliation at Huaxin Pharmaceuticals was now complete.
This had to be stagedโsomeone had gathered all these people here to watch him make a fool of himself.
But there were too many people who hated him to figure out who.
Someone even pretended to offer help, but Paul shoved them away and stumbled into his car, fleeing the scene.
Meanwhile, Yunice and Wyatt never made it back to West Court.
In the executive lounge, Yunice was bandaging Wyattโs injured hand.
She kept her head down, focused on her task. Wyatt, however, never looked away from the top of her head.
He stared at her, unwilling to blink, as though he was afraid sheโd vanish.
Yunice looked up and saw the redness in his eyes.
โโฆWhatโs with that look?โ she muttered, uncomfortable.
Heโd been looking at her like that the whole way here, filled with remorse.
Yunice knew her past might move people to pityโbut wasnโt Wyatt overreacting?
โIโm sorry,โ Wyatt choked out.
Yunice wasnโt sure what he was apologizing for. Anyone else could say sorryโbut not Wyatt. He never had.
Wyatt reached out and pulled her into his arms. Feeling her chin settle on his shoulder only made the pain in his chest worse.
He wished he could kill Paul. It was all his faultโbecause of him, Wyatt had made so many wrong choices.
If only he had knownโฆ If only heโd known Yunice never loved Paul, then he never would haveโฆ
Wyatt shut his eyes tightly and hugged her even harder, as if trying to absorb her into his body.
โIโm never letting go again,โ he said, voice hoarse.
Yuniceโs heartbeat slowly calmed. She looked at him, not quite understanding, but for the first time, she felt trulyโฆ needed.
She tilted her head, resting her hair against his cheek.
She never thought sheโd be believed again.
When it came to her purity, she could never defend herself. Even if it had been her first time, sheโd never expected anyone to believe her.
Wyatt had surprised her.
She never imagined heโd sense the truthโlet alone fight Paul over it.
But in the end, did it even matter?
Sheโd been slandered for so many years. Sheโd heard every cruel thing that could be said.
Some even mocked her, saying if she really wanted to prove she was clean, why not let them sleep with her once and find out?
The others laughed. When she stayed silent, they called her guiltyโtoo afraid to answer.
