Chapter 426 Whose House Is This, Really?
Oscar turned to Yunice, โDo whatever you need to do. I, Oscar, wonโt say another word.โ
And just like that, he left.
With Oscar gone, Owen lost his last bit of confidence.
Climbing to his feet, he glanced uneasily at Yunice. โYunice, itโs all over now. Youโre not still holding a grudge, are you?โ
โElise mightโve been the one who got out, but she had it worse than us. You should see her nowโฆ sheโs not doing wellโฆโ
Even now, Owen still believed Yunice was just jealous of Elise โ that only seeing Elise suffer would bring her peace and make her let the family go.
Yunice was speechless. โYou people tried to destroy me, ended up shooting yourselves in the foot, and now you blame me for not cushioning the fall? Do you hear yourself? I donโt have time for this. If youโve got complaints, take them to the people who filed the suit. My letter wonโt change anything.โ
She stood to leave. Owen tried to follow, but the butler raised a hand to block him. โMr. Owen, this is Pavilion Hall. I hope you understand where you are.โ
And more importantly โ who this place belongs to.
As Yunice exited the reception room, she heard a rustle from the flowerbeds.
Someone was hiding.
She walked straight over and yanked the person out from behind the hedge.
Peggy flailed her hands. โItโs me! Itโs just me!โ
Getting caught didnโt faze her in the slightest. She immediately leaned in with a nosy grin. โI just saw a handsome guy storm out of here. Is he your husband?โ
She meant Oscar.
Yunice didnโt respond, so Peggy kept going, spinning her own tale. โHe looked crushed when he left โ was it because he found out you were spending all his money? Did he freak out? You better run after him and fix it, or your sugar daddyโs gone for goodโฆโ
Yunice snapped, โWhy do you care so much about my husband? Planning to steal him from me?โ
โI-โ Peggy blushed, then crossed her arms with a huff. โI just canโt stand women who live off someone elseโs hard-earned money and act like they earned it!โ
โEven pretending takes skill. Why donโt you try and show me how itโs done?โ Yunice was in no mood to indulge her today.
Peggyโs interruption gave Owen and Lily time to be escorted out by the butler.
As the two parties ran into each other, Peggy lit up. โHey buddy! Youโre here too?โ
Then she spotted the well-dressed woman beside Owen. Her eyes lit up again, and she said, โWaitโฆ is this mansion part of the Saunders estate?โ
She glanced at Yunice, as if to say, No wonder you live here.
But the butler shut that down fast. โThis property belongs solely to Madam. Mr. Owen and Ms. Lily were here to ask for a favor.โ
Back in the quarantine ward, Owen had already found Peggyโs loud personality exhausting. Now he had nothing to say.
But Peggy was oblivious. โAsking for help? But you run an entire hospital โ what could you possibly need from someone else? Who is Yuniceโs husband anyway? Is he really that powerful?โ
โHey, donโt walk off โ Iโm not done talkingโฆโ
Yunice turned to the butler. โDonโt let her in again.โ
Peggy tried to weasel her way back in, but the butler gave her no chance.
In the end, she had no choice but to hitch a ride with Owen and Lily.
In the van, Owen couldnโt take the noise anymore and snapped, โWhy are you even here?โ
Back in the ward, Yunice and Peggy werenโt exactly close.
Peggy replied, โItโs not just me โ Yunice invited all the volunteers. You didnโt know?โ
Owenโs voice shot up. โAll of them?โ
Peggy blinked, puzzled by his reaction. โArenโt you her brother? You didnโt know?โ
Owenโs thoughts flashed back to the moment he and Lily had stood awkwardly outside Pavilion Hall, waiting to be let in.
Yunice had invited a bunch of people she barely knew, but left her own family standing out in the cold. But after a few seconds, his anger faded into resignation.
He finally realized โ Yunice wasnโt still fighting over Elise. She simply didnโt care about any of them anymore.
โBuddy?โ
โBuddy, if Yunice lives like this, your family must be loaded too! Iโve decided โ I want a tour of your house next!โ
Peggy rattled on excitedly, but no one answered her.
Outside Pavilion Hall-
Owen had driven himself, and he flatly refused to give Peggy a ride.
Left behind, she pouted and stomped her foot in frustration.
With no other option, she had to call a ride.
While waiting, a sleek Maybach drove past.
The car was stunning โ nothing like what youโd typically see on the street.
Peggy instinctively leaned forward, trying to get a glimpse of the driver.
But the car didnโt stop.
It passed right by her and headed straight toward Pavilion Hall.
