Chapter 320 The Face That Couldnโt Be Ignored
Taylor furrowed her brow. Sheโd only met Yunice a few times. Last time, when Lily falsely accused Yunice, she had defended her purely because theyโd been on the same side.
But now, she and Yunice should be on opposing teams.
She looked at the little bottle of ointment in her handโฆ Why would Yunice want her to make the injury worse?
Suddenly, her expression shifted โ she got it.
โAny parent will protect their own. The Kendall family will stand by me. The Powell family will naturally stand by Paul.โ
โI got slapped, and to the Kendall family, thatโs a massive humiliation. But to the Powell family, itโs just a little marital spat. Grandpa will definitely brush it off, tell me to suck it up. And since I slapped Paul too, technically Iโm not in the right either.โ
Taylor immediately understood and, without hesitation, applied the ointment to her face.
โMiss!โ Alan panicked, thinking Yunice might be trying to trick her.
But when Taylor lifted her head again, Alanโs face twisted with visible shock.
There wasnโt any pain on Taylorโs end, but judging by his expression, she asked, โIs it that bad?โ
Alan numbly nodded.
Taylor turned and walked straight into the main hall. As she entered, she caught the sound of Paul tattling.
โGrandpa, Taylorโs wild and overbearing. This isnโt the first time sheโs humiliated me in public. She doesnโt understand what it means to be a proper wife. A woman like this only brings disgrace to the Powell family!โ
The old man squinted at him. โSo what do you want?โ
Paul said firmly, โI want a divorce!โ
The old man replied, โYou can get divorced.โ
Before Paul could even react with joy, the old man added, โAs long as youโre capable of taking over the Powell family business. Then I wonโt stop you from marrying whoever you want. When Taylor married in, she brought a dowry worth ten billion. She holds five percent of Powell Corporationโs shares. You want to divorce her โ can you afford that?โ
Taylor stood just outside the door, smiling faintly as she listened. So Grandpa did know how important she was.
Then she really wanted to see how he planned to handle this situation.
โGrandpaโฆโ Taylor walked in, head bowed in sorrow, and stopped beside Paul. โI want to divorce Paul.โ
Paul blinked, surprised. Why was she keeping her head down like that? He couldnโt see her face clearly.
Still, he didnโt think too much of it. It was just one slap. Not even an injury. Grandpa wouldnโt do anything over that.
The old man took a deep breath, sounding disappointed. โPaul being immature is one thing โ but how could you be so thoughtless? Marriage isnโt a game. You think you can just get divorced whenever?โ
Linda, who was serving tea beside the old man, also chimed in, โItโs normal for couples to fight. Didnโt you slap Paul to get even?โ
She walked over, trying to comfort Taylor. โBut you werenโt entirely right either. Men care about saving face. How could you slap him in front of everyone? Heโs still your husband. You have to protect his dignity so you have your own. Paul likes that Bai girl because sheโs gentle and considerate. You should learn from her. If you did, maybe Paul wouldnโt want a divorceโฆโ
The word โdivorceโ wasnโt even finished when Linda suddenly froze, her hand reaching out to touch Taylorโs shoulder โ then she gasped in horror and covered her mouth.
The old man, alerted by her scream, looked up with irritation โ ready to scold them all for giving him a headache โ when he too saw Taylorโs face.
Half her face was blazing red, like it had been scraped with sandpaper.
Linda couldnโt believe it. โThisโฆ this was from Paul?โ
Taylor asked calmly, โWho else?โ
Linda hesitated. No slap shouldโve caused this kind of damage. It looked like sheโd been clawed by a bear.
Taylor looked at Linda. โDid your father-in-law ever hit you like this?โ
Lindaโs expression turned awkward.
Paul was dumbfounded. โYeah, I slapped her, but thereโs no way it did that kind of damage. Taylor, youโre faking it, arenโt you?โ
Taylor looked at the faint mark on his cheek and said bitterly, โI pitied you because youโre my husband. When I hit you, I didnโt even use force. But for your little side chick, you nearly beat me to death. Do you think I dare stay in this marriage?โ
Paul stared at her, trying to figure out what game she was playing.
The old man, upon seeing her face, realized this couldnโt be brushed off. He shouted, โYou bastard! Still standing there like an idiot? Take your wife to get her face checked!โ
Taylor took a deep breath, as if she had given up on everything. โNo need. Today is my fatherโs birthday. Iโm going home to attend the birthday partyโฆ I wonโt stay here at the Powell family and get in everyoneโs way.โ
Birthday party?
That meant the Kendall familyโs friends and relatives would all be there.
And Taylor, walking in with a face like that?
No way the Kendall family would let that slide.
