Chapter 67
โFine, itโs not your fault,โ Kieran said softly, patting Eloise on the head. โI have Jarrett drive you home.โ
Eloiseโs heart skipped a beat when she realized Kieran wouldnโt take her home himself. But she knew she couldnโt push her luck, so all she could do was lower her head and say, โAs long as youโre not mad at me, thatโs all that matters, Kieran. I canโt lose you.โ
After saying that, Eloise followed Jarrett to the car.
Meanwhile, Freya was about to head home when Kieran pulled her aside against a wall as she turned the corner.
โYouโโ
Freya instinctively wanted to resist, but Kieran grabbed her arm and said coldly, โFreya, you seem in quite the rush to leave.โ
โMr. Sutton, shouldnโt you be comforting Ms. Harwood instead of bothering with me?โ
Areya frowned, wanting nothing to do with Kieran.
Seeing this, Kieran let go of Freya, his voice cold as he said, โFreya, are you disappointed we couldnโt cancel our engagement?โ
Kieran didnโt miss the dissatisfaction in Freyaโs eyes.
Freya snorted. โMr. Sutton, arenโt you stating the obvious? Failing to break off the engagement means I canโt legitimately become a lady of the Beckett family, and yes, thatโs infuriating. So, Iโd appreciate it if you would keep your distance to avoid further irritation.โ
Listening to Freya, Kieran couldnโt help but laugh. โFreya, do you think Ronan wants to marry you? Donโt be naive! If it werenโt for the fact youโre engaged to me, do you think heโd give you the time of day?โ
Freya raised an eyebrow. โI get what youโre trying to say, Mr. Sutton. Ronan is only after me to get under your skin and annoy you. ButโฆI wonโt buy into that. After all, Ronan and I donโt need anyone elseโs commentary on our relationship.โ
Hearing Freya refer to him as โanyone else,โ Kieran felt anger surging in his chest. โThatโs a pity. Youโre still engaged to the heir of the Sutton family, and you canโt marry into the Beckett family!โ
โMr. Sutton, if you came here just to say that, please step aside. I donโt have the time to waste with you.โ Freya attempted to walk past Kieran.
But Kieran warned, โFreya, stay away from Ronan. Remember your current status.โ
โStatus? What status?โ Freya pretended to be confused. โMr. Sutton, I donโt understand. Even though we havenโt officially broken off our engagement, you do your thing and Iโll do mine. Thatโs pretty standard in our circle, right? Eventually, weโll call it off. Thereโs no rush.โ Then, deliberately getting closer to Kieran, Freya teased, โMr. Sutton, or did you harbor feelings for me, hence the reluctance to see me with Ronan? Otherwise, why go through all the trouble to have Audrey stop the breakup?โ
At that, Kieranโs expression darkened. โFreya, donโt flatter yourself!โ
โIt was a joke, Mr. Sutton. Donโt take it to heart.โ Freya laughed, which fueled Kieranโs anger.
Watching Freya walk away nonchalantly, Kieran clenched his fists tighter. He intended to see Freya defeated, but she had gotten under his skin once again!
