Chapter 290

Neil spun on his heel and left the study, closing the door behind him. Preston watched the half-full glass of whiskey on the desk before downing the remaining liquid in one gulp.

It was around midnight. Silas had finished all his tasks for the night and glanced at Kieran, sitting in a booth at Eclipse Lounge, occasionally checking his phone with a distracted air.

โ€œYouโ€™ve been off in your world all night. Whatโ€™s going on?โ€ Silas asked hesitantly.

Kieran returned to reality, putting his phone down with a slight hint of irritation. Silas knew Kieran wasnโ€™t one to slack off at work, so he quickly deduced it had something to do with Freya.

โ€œItโ€™s Ms. Dawson again, isnโ€™t it?โ€ When Kieran remained silent, Silas knew heโ€™d hit the nail on the head. It always came back to Freya. Kieran would never have been like this.

โ€œLet me guess. Youโ€™re restless because Ms. Dawson hasnโ€™t messaged you all day, right?โ€

Seeing the look on Kieranโ€™s face, Silas knew heโ€™d guessed correctly again. So, Silas said, โ€œFace it, Kieran. Youโ€™ve fallen for Freya.โ€

Kieranโ€™s expression changed instantly. โ€œFallen for Freya? What nonsense are you spouting?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not nonsense. Itโ€™s all there! Liking someone means you canโ€™t help wanting to contact them to know what theyโ€™re up to. How many times have you checked your phone now, hoping to see a message from Freya? I know youโ€™re too proud to message her first, but doesnโ€™t that frustrate you?โ€

Noticing that Silas seemed to have seen through him, Kieranโ€™s expression darkened.

โ€œPeople said Ms. Dawson was into you, and you wouldnโ€™t give her the time of day. Now, sheโ€™s stopped orbiting around you, and youโ€™re the interested one. Youโ€™re justโ€ฆ wellโ€ฆโ€

Kieranโ€™s glare cut off Silasโ€™s following words. โ€œFreya is a woman whoโ€™d do anything for money. How could I fall for someone like that?โ€

Hearing this, Silas shook his head. โ€œIf Ms. Dawson was after money and status, why would she call off the engagement? After all, your grandmother adored her. She could have easily taken Mrs. Suttonโ€™s place. There was no need for her to go through all that.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s because sheโ€™s set her sights on Ronan and Preston. She wants more than Mrs. Suttonโ€™s position. She wants me, well, my attention,โ€ Kieran reasoned, though he seemed to find his argument unconvincing.

Seeing through Freyaโ€™s disdain and loathing for him these past days, Kieran couldnโ€™t believe Freya was after him.

Silas was about to call out Kieranโ€™s vanity but quickly focused on the matter. โ€œSo, Ms. Dawson is a fool? Would she rather chase after Ronan and Preston, leaving Mrs. Suttonโ€™s position behind? Not to mention, with Ronanโ€™s uncertain inclinations and Preston being such a dangerous character, sheโ€™d rather throw herself at them. She wouldnโ€™t know what hit her!โ€

Listening to Silas, Kieran fell silent.

โ€œFace it, Kieran, youโ€™re in love with Ms. Dawson. Youโ€™re just not aware of it, and thatโ€™s why youโ€™re so distracted.โ€

โ€œEnough,โ€ Kieran stood up, his tone cold. โ€œDonโ€™t bring this up again.โ€

With that, Kieran addressed his secretary at the door, โ€œJarrett, drive me home.โ€

โ€œYes, Mr. Sutton.โ€ Jarrett led Kieran out of the nightclub.

Silas watched Kieranโ€™s retreating figure and shook his head in resignation.

Outside Eclipse Lounge, Kieran had gotten into the car. Jarrett asked, โ€œMr. Sutton, should we head straight home orโ€ฆโ€

Kieran instructed, โ€œGo to Freyaโ€™s apartment.โ€
