Chapter 290
Neil spun on his heel and left the study, closing the door behind him. Preston watched the half-full glass of whiskey on the desk before downing the remaining liquid in one gulp.
It was around midnight. Silas had finished all his tasks for the night and glanced at Kieran, sitting in a booth at Eclipse Lounge, occasionally checking his phone with a distracted air.
โYouโve been off in your world all night. Whatโs going on?โ Silas asked hesitantly.
Kieran returned to reality, putting his phone down with a slight hint of irritation. Silas knew Kieran wasnโt one to slack off at work, so he quickly deduced it had something to do with Freya.
โItโs Ms. Dawson again, isnโt it?โ When Kieran remained silent, Silas knew heโd hit the nail on the head. It always came back to Freya. Kieran would never have been like this.
โLet me guess. Youโre restless because Ms. Dawson hasnโt messaged you all day, right?โ
Seeing the look on Kieranโs face, Silas knew heโd guessed correctly again. So, Silas said, โFace it, Kieran. Youโve fallen for Freya.โ
Kieranโs expression changed instantly. โFallen for Freya? What nonsense are you spouting?โ
โItโs not nonsense. Itโs all there! Liking someone means you canโt help wanting to contact them to know what theyโre up to. How many times have you checked your phone now, hoping to see a message from Freya? I know youโre too proud to message her first, but doesnโt that frustrate you?โ
Noticing that Silas seemed to have seen through him, Kieranโs expression darkened.
โPeople said Ms. Dawson was into you, and you wouldnโt give her the time of day. Now, sheโs stopped orbiting around you, and youโre the interested one. Youโre justโฆ wellโฆโ
Kieranโs glare cut off Silasโs following words. โFreya is a woman whoโd do anything for money. How could I fall for someone like that?โ
Hearing this, Silas shook his head. โIf Ms. Dawson was after money and status, why would she call off the engagement? After all, your grandmother adored her. She could have easily taken Mrs. Suttonโs place. There was no need for her to go through all that.โ
โThatโs because sheโs set her sights on Ronan and Preston. She wants more than Mrs. Suttonโs position. She wants me, well, my attention,โ Kieran reasoned, though he seemed to find his argument unconvincing.
Seeing through Freyaโs disdain and loathing for him these past days, Kieran couldnโt believe Freya was after him.
Silas was about to call out Kieranโs vanity but quickly focused on the matter. โSo, Ms. Dawson is a fool? Would she rather chase after Ronan and Preston, leaving Mrs. Suttonโs position behind? Not to mention, with Ronanโs uncertain inclinations and Preston being such a dangerous character, sheโd rather throw herself at them. She wouldnโt know what hit her!โ
Listening to Silas, Kieran fell silent.
โFace it, Kieran, youโre in love with Ms. Dawson. Youโre just not aware of it, and thatโs why youโre so distracted.โ
โEnough,โ Kieran stood up, his tone cold. โDonโt bring this up again.โ
With that, Kieran addressed his secretary at the door, โJarrett, drive me home.โ
โYes, Mr. Sutton.โ Jarrett led Kieran out of the nightclub.
Silas watched Kieranโs retreating figure and shook his head in resignation.
Outside Eclipse Lounge, Kieran had gotten into the car. Jarrett asked, โMr. Sutton, should we head straight home orโฆโ
Kieran instructed, โGo to Freyaโs apartment.โ
