Chapter 23
โButโฆ Mr. Sutton, youโve always wanted to see Ms. Dawson buckle under, right?โ
โI want her to realize that sheโs utterly alone and without hope,โ Kieran said, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. โI want her apologizing to Ellie on her knees.โ
Meanwhile, Freya had been shopping at the mall, picking out a few luxury skincare products. As she was about to head downstairs for coffee, she glimpsed a conspicuous bodyguard in a black suit trailing her. His presence was so eye-catching that it drew a crowd. Shaking her head with a light chuckle, Freya couldnโt help but think highly of Kieran for having someone watch over her. Was he concerned she might harm Eloise, or was he waiting to see her struggle with the companyโs affairs?
Taking her time, Freya grabbed her coffee and navigated through the crowd, with her bodyguard hustling to keep up. She deliberately quickened her pace, blending into the sea of people until the bodyguard lost her trail.
The bodyguard reported, โJarrett, Iโve lost her!โ
On the other end of the Bluetooth connection, Jarrett received the message from the mall and relayed it to Kieran.
โLost her?โ Kieran frowned. โIdiot! Have him wait outside the Dawson family home.โ
As Kieran glanced at the darkening sky outside, he said, โWe should head home, too.โ
โYes, Mr. Sutton.โ
Jarrett drove Kieran to the grand entrance of the Sutton Mansion.
โMr. Sutton, given the situation with Ms. Harwood, Mrs. Sutton has been quite upset these past few days. It might be best to apologize to her,โ Jarrett suggested.
โShe is my grandmother, after all.โ
Upon entering the living room, Kieran heard the sound of laughter.
โYou always know how to make me laugh and cheer me up,โ Audrey said, bringing a frown to Kieranโs face. He wondered, โWhy is Grandma suddenly in such high spirits after days of sulking?โ
As Kieran walked inside, he saw Freya applying a facial mask on Audrey, with a table full of skincare products Freya had bought from the mall. They seemed to be enjoying a lively chat.
Seeing that, Kieranโs expression darkened. So that was why Freya hadnโt come to him for a compromise. She had gone straight to his grandmother to curry favor! He thought he had seriously underestimated this woman. โFreya! Who allowed you here?โ
The atmosphere turned icy instantly, yet Freya ignored Kieranโs presence, smiling at Audrey. โAudrey, does your skin feel better now?โ Audrey patted Freyaโs hand, smiling contentedly. โMuch better, my dear! You know how to make me happy far more than my grandson.โ
โPlease donโt say so, Audrey. If Mr. Sutton gets upset, heโll take it out on me,โ Freya said, her voice gentle but her words direct. The response infuriated Kieran further. Since he had entered, Freya hadnโt even spared him a glance. And she was complaining about him to his grandmother right to his face.
Kieran wondered, โIs this playing hard to get, or is it just deliberate provocation?โ
The next second, Audrey turned solemn. She looked at Kieran and asked, โKieran, I told you to apologize to Freya. Did you do as I asked?โ
โGrandma, Iโve apologized to Ms. Dawson,โ Kieran said, his gaze fixed on Freya, teeth clenched. At that moment, he felt an intense urge to confront her directly.
