Chapter 22

Alison was enlightened. โ€œSo, Ms. Dawson, youโ€™re playing dumb to catch the wise, right?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Freya nodded without hesitation. โ€œLetโ€™s not tip them off yet. We need to gather evidence slowly. Their embezzlement is harming the shareholdersโ€™ interests. Once we have enough proof and have cut off their influence in the company, itโ€™ll be time for their downfall.โ€

Alison stared at Freya and said, โ€œMs. Dawsonโ€ฆ you seem different from before.โ€

The Freya she knew was gentle, wise, and clever, but never dabbled in such corporate maneuvers. But what Freya had just outlined made perfect sense. Alison couldnโ€™t help but admire her.

Freya turned to Alison. โ€œAlison, youโ€™ve been with the company for years now, and my father has supported you in the past. I hope you can help me.โ€

โ€œI will stand by you, Ms. Dawson. I wonโ€™t let them ruin what Mr. Gavin Dawson left behind.โ€

Freya nodded. โ€œThank you.โ€

โ€œButโ€ฆโ€ Alison hesitated. โ€œThough Galen tends to exaggerate, the Sutton Group has been attacking our Dawson Group non-stop, especially today.โ€

โ€œToday?โ€

Alison nodded, explaining, โ€œToday, the Sutton Group pulled the funding from several of our projects. Weโ€™re now running low on funds, practically treading water. The finance department has begun auditing, and we only have enough to last us another week.โ€

A weekโ€ฆ Freya scoffed. It looks like Kieran is trying to avenge Eloise and make me give in.

โ€œSpeaking of funds, Iโ€™m considering taking out a loan from the bank.โ€

Alison frowned. โ€œA loan? Thatโ€™s risky. I wouldnโ€™t recommend it.โ€

Freya was determined. โ€œFind a way to secure a loan of five hundred million to cover the real estate project Kieran pulled out of. Iโ€™ll handle the fundraising for the rest.โ€

Alison doubted it. โ€œMs. Dawson, thatโ€™s five hundred million. The bank might not agree, and we need funding for other projects too.โ€

โ€œGive me a detailed report, and Iโ€™ll have an answer for you within a week.โ€

โ€œUnderstood.โ€

Though Alison agreed, she doubted Freya could raise such an amount in a week unless Freya decided to yield to Mr. Sutton.

In the afternoon, Freya left the Dawson Group. The person Kieran had assigned to watch her reported back to Secretary Jarrett at the Sutton Groupโ€™s office.

Jarrett, feeling anxious, reported to Kieran, โ€œMiss Dawson left the company and went shopping.โ€

โ€œShopping?โ€ Kieran looked up, his brow furrowing. Was Freya out of her mind? The company was in crisis, and she was out shopping?

Jarrett wanted to say something. โ€œMr. Suttonโ€ฆโ€

Kieran scoffed coldly, โ€œTruly a clueless heiress who only knows how to splurge. Fine. If she wonโ€™t yield, I wonโ€™t hold back. Letโ€™s make her realize the consequences of crossing me.โ€

โ€œBut Mr. Sutton, Mrs. Sutton wonโ€™t be pleasedโ€ฆโ€

Kieran glanced coldly at Jarrett. โ€œFreya should have known the consequences of her actions against Ellie. Iโ€™m already being lenient, for Grandmaโ€™s sake.โ€

โ€œYes, Mr. Sutton.โ€

As Jarrett exited, Kieran suddenly called out, โ€œWait!โ€

โ€œMr. Sutton, anything else?โ€

โ€œIf Freya comes to see me, tell her Iโ€™m busy.โ€
