Chapter 1752: Fleeing to Escape Punishment

โ€œYou!โ€ Hector exploded, his vision blurring with rage. He nearly collapsed, and Kevin rushed forward to steady him.

โ€œOld Mr. Damaris, everything I said is true! Mr. Damaris is unstoppable! Please take care of yourself; you're the Damaris Group's only hope!โ€ the assistant said, gently patting Hector's chest.

Hector gasped for breath, his face paling. Kevin quickly administered a pill.

Once Hector recovered, he looked at the assistant with sorrow. โ€œIs that so?โ€

The young man nodded.

โ€œThis is ridiculous,โ€ Hector shook his head. โ€œThe Damaris family has a long history of virtuous deeds. How could one of us be so avaricious?โ€ He apologized. โ€œI misunderstood. But why didnโ€™t you tell me sooner about his actions?โ€

Kevin sympathized with Hectorโ€™s distress. โ€œOld Mr. Damaris, please donโ€™t make this difficult for me. Iโ€™m only an assistant. How could I defy Mr. Damaris?โ€

Hector sighed, nodding. โ€œWhere is Jack? Tell him to come explain himself. How else can I face our ancestors?โ€

Kevin hesitated. โ€œMr. Damaris, heโ€ฆโ€

Hectorโ€™s heart sank. โ€œWhere is he?โ€

โ€œMr. Damaris has likely already left Horington. He would have faced imprisonment otherwise,โ€ the assistant replied anxiously.

Jack, after a fit of anger and anxiety the previous night, had sent his assistant to tell Hector he was the only one who could save the family. He himself had discharged himself from the hospital and fled abroad.

Learning of his grandson's escape, Hectorโ€™s anger flared again. โ€œHe left like that? He jeopardized the entire Damaris Group and ran away without a word? I was blind to choose him as heir!โ€ He trembled with fury.

Repentance, a public apology, and confession might have salvaged the Damaris Groupโ€™s reputation. Instead, his grandsonโ€™s flight had ensured its ruin.

Hectorโ€™s heart ached contemplating the family's future. โ€œGenerations of our family dedicated themselves to pharmacology, even sacrificing our lives. Yet, he only cares about money! Whatโ€™s wrong with this generation? Didnโ€™t he consider the consequences of exposure?โ€

The assistant spoke resolutely, โ€œOld Mr. Damaris, itโ€™s all Farwell Groupโ€™s doingโ€ฆโ€ He hoped Hector would plead with Lucian for mercy.

Before he finished, Hector interrupted, โ€œYou reap what you sow! These scandals could have been avoided if Jack had followed established standards. Without Farwell Group's interference, he might have caused even greater problems!โ€
