Chapter 1751: Did You Talk Him Into It?
In half a day, news of the Damaris Group scandal spread through Horington, even reaching the government. Police sealed off the company's warehouse, and investigators launched a full inquiry, halting all operations.
Meanwhile, Hector lay in bed at a Horington mansion. News of the scandal caused him to clutch his chest, struggling for breath. Kevin, standing beside him, asked, "What should we do now, Old Mr. Damaris?"
The previous night, Kevin had rushed Hector to the hospital after a collapse. Fortunately, medication proved sufficient, as it was nothing serious. Afterwards, Kevin moved Hector to the mansion in a quieter area, anticipating the fallout. Despite Hector's recent recovery, Kevin felt compelled to seek his guidance; only Hector could potentially salvage the situation.
"Are you seriously asking me? Ask yourself! Why didn't you tell me about his actions?" Hector fumed. His breathing grew labored as he considered Jack's clandestine dealings in the name of Damaris Group. "A hundred years we built this! We prioritized our patients, and heโฆ he throws it all away! He ruins our reputation! I can't believe I chose him as heir! This shames the family!" He slammed the table in anguish.
Kevin quickly fetched water. "Calm down, Old Mr. Damaris. Your health is paramount. If anything happens to you, it's the end of the Damaris family."
Hector knocked the cup from Kevin's hand, glaring. "You're involved too!"
Overwhelmed by emotion, he rose from the couch and, leaning heavily on his cane, confronted Kevin. "You both joined the company together, worked side-by-side for years. Don't tell me you knew nothing of his actions!" His hands trembled as Kevin hung his head. Enraged, Hector slapped the assistant. "Did you talk him into this? Speak!"
Hector couldn't comprehend how a child raised within the Damaris family's values could commit such acts, unless influenced. He refused to believe this greedy man was truly a product of his family.
The assistant protested, "Old Mr. Damaris, you know Mr. Damaris. He never listensโnot to me! I knew of his actions, I tried to dissuade him, but he wouldn't listen! There was nothing more I could do!"
He added, "We wouldn't be in this mess if he'd listened to me and not crossed the Farwells!"
