Chapter 369 GRAND KING DAEMONIKAI
Grand King Daemonikai was in a good mood.
When preparing for court, heโd leaned down to kiss a sleeping Emeriel on the cheek before leaving. Whatever remnants of exhaustion remained in his body were dulled by her scent and their reawakened bond.
When he stepped into the court corridors, Ottai took one look at him and beamed wide. โCongratulations.โ
Soon after, Vladya joined them, looking relieved and equally pleased.
Daemonikai wasnโt sure what had given it awayโwhether it was the ease in his muscles, the subtle satisfaction clinging to his every step, or the unmistakable calm that had settled over his presenceโbut they had both seen it. They knew his instincts had been sated, that his bond with Emeriel had returned.
โYou have no idea how glad I am,โ Ottaiโs voice carried emotion.
Daemonikai snorted. โI think I do, actually. Itโs written all over your face, Ottai.โ He turned to him. โHow is Morina?โ
Ottai grimaced. โFull heat recovery is a bitch, but sheโs doing better now, thank Ukrae. I hate seeing her in pain.โ
โDonโt we all,โ Daemonikai murmured, clasping Ottaiโs shoulder.
As Ottai walked ahead into the court, Daemonikai glanced over at Vladya wearing a sheepish look, unusual for him.
โLook, I want to apologize for the other night,โ Vladya said. โFor the way I spoke to you. I shouldnโt haveโโ
โAekeira really has you by the balls now, doesnโt she?โ Daemonikai arched a brow. โSince when do you apologize for being a brat?โ
That did it. Vladya relaxed, rolling his eyes. โIโm trying to be mature, and youโre ruining it.โ
โThereโs nothing to apologize for,โ Daemonikai said simply. โTruth is, that night I wanted to deck you. And I probably would have, if Iโd woken up this morning the same male I was when I walked into Frostfall two nights ago, but Iโm not. What you saidโฆ it was the push I needed. And Iโm grateful for that.โ
Vladyaโs eyes lit. โSo, the bond is really back? You can feel it?โ
โI can.โ Daemonikai smiled, placing a hand to his chest. โRight here.โ
โYou left it open? Youโre not shielding?โ Vladya chuckled. โThatโs not very responsible of you, Grand King Daemonikai.โ
Hearing his own past reprimands thrown back at him wasnโt the most enjoyable experienceโbut Daemonikai owned it with a grunt. โGive me a damn break. I havenโt felt this bond in ages.โ
Tradition dictated a Urekai never left their bond open outside of private quartersโwhether with a partner or bloodhost. In public, shielding was required. Leaving it open meant exposure; feeling your bondedโs emotions in real-time could easily distract from court matters and other daily obligations.
โYouโll have to shield once we step into court,โ Vladya reminded.
โI know. Itโs only still open because Emerielโs sleeping.โ
โI understand,โ Vladya waved off. โI was just messing with you.โ Then he grew serious. โCongratulations, Daemon. I know how much this meant to you.โ
Daemonikai gave a silent nod, mouthing a soft thank you. โWhen your rituals are completed, and your soul is restored, youโll also get to feel your bond to Aekeira in its fullest, pulsing, purest form. Everything youโve been missingโฆ itโs only a matter of time.โ
โOnly a matter of time,โ Vladya echoed, though quieter. โWe just have to pray the Oracle survives. The ritual can only continue if she does.โ
Daemonikai gave another solemn nod. The Oracle was still fighting for her life. Bringing Zaiperโs sins to light had shattered seventy bones in her body, the first and most extreme case of its kind. Some had already lost hope, but Daemonikai refused to give up.
He had summoned the oldest and most skilled healers, the best shamans across Urai and beyond. For two months, they had tried every method: treatments, blood rituals, and enchantments. But still, her selfโhealing abilities had not activated. Without that, her bones would remain unhealed, and she could not survive.
A week ago, one of the elder shamans had formally requested permission to perform the Happy Repose ceremonyโa ritual meant to ease a soul into the afterlife.
Daemonikai had denied it.
He would not surrender her to death. Not yet.
Aekeira was in the gardens when she saw her.
She dropped the watering can the moment Emeriel stepped through the archway. โEm? Iโve been waiting for you! I needed to show youโโ
But before she could finish, Emeriel walked straight into her arms, pulling her into a tight hug, as close as their protruding bellies would allow.
โKeira,โ Emeriel whispered into her sisterโs neck, โIโm so happy.โ
Aekeiraโs arms circled her instantly. โOh, honeyโฆโ
โEverything is okay in my world again.โ Joy made her voice shake.
Aekeira pulled back slightly, hands cupping her sisterโs face, a wide smile breaking across her features. โOh my Gods, Em, you have no idea how happy I am to hear that.โ She blinked rapidly. โSo you were able toโฆ?โ
Emerielโs radiant smile answered everything. โOh yes.โ She was glowing now, utterly beaming. โLast nightโฆ and this morning. Keira, it was beautiful. The most beautiful.โ
A relieved laugh burst from Aekeira as she pulled her in again. โYou donโt know how worried Iโve been these past few months. I didnโt want to pressure you or speak on it too much, but Gods, Emโฆ I was afraid, that maybe you two wouldnโt overcome it, that you might go through this whole pregnancy without that intimacy, without that closeness returningโฆโ She held her tighter. โBut it happened at last, Iโm so glad. You two are back, stronger than ever.โ
Emeriel clung to her. โAnd our bond is back,โ she whispered to her sisterโs shoulder. โI feel him again, Keira. I feel us.โ
Aekeiraโs arms tightened, voice choked. โThen all really is right in your world again.โ She kissed Emerielโs temple. โCongratulations, my dear sister.โ
โThank youโฆโ
Lacing their fingers together, Aekeira tugged her. โForget working today, letโs spend the day relaxing, celebrating this miracle. Just you and me.โ
Emeriel laughed, her heart full. โOh, sure. Okay.โ
Both of them walked handโinโhand from the garden, souls light and spirits lifted, to enjoy this joyful day.
