Chapter 369 GRAND KING DAEMONIKAI

Grand King Daemonikai was in a good mood.

When preparing for court, heโ€™d leaned down to kiss a sleeping Emeriel on the cheek before leaving. Whatever remnants of exhaustion remained in his body were dulled by her scent and their reawakened bond.

When he stepped into the court corridors, Ottai took one look at him and beamed wide. โ€œCongratulations.โ€

Soon after, Vladya joined them, looking relieved and equally pleased.

Daemonikai wasnโ€™t sure what had given it awayโ€“whether it was the ease in his muscles, the subtle satisfaction clinging to his every step, or the unmistakable calm that had settled over his presenceโ€“but they had both seen it. They knew his instincts had been sated, that his bond with Emeriel had returned.

โ€œYou have no idea how glad I am,โ€ Ottaiโ€™s voice carried emotion.

Daemonikai snorted. โ€œI think I do, actually. Itโ€™s written all over your face, Ottai.โ€ He turned to him. โ€œHow is Morina?โ€

Ottai grimaced. โ€œFull heat recovery is a bitch, but sheโ€™s doing better now, thank Ukrae. I hate seeing her in pain.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t we all,โ€ Daemonikai murmured, clasping Ottaiโ€™s shoulder.

As Ottai walked ahead into the court, Daemonikai glanced over at Vladya wearing a sheepish look, unusual for him.

โ€œLook, I want to apologize for the other night,โ€ Vladya said. โ€œFor the way I spoke to you. I shouldnโ€™t haveโ€“โ€

โ€œAekeira really has you by the balls now, doesnโ€™t she?โ€ Daemonikai arched a brow. โ€œSince when do you apologize for being a brat?โ€

That did it. Vladya relaxed, rolling his eyes. โ€œIโ€™m trying to be mature, and youโ€™re ruining it.โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing to apologize for,โ€ Daemonikai said simply. โ€œTruth is, that night I wanted to deck you. And I probably would have, if Iโ€™d woken up this morning the same male I was when I walked into Frostfall two nights ago, but Iโ€™m not. What you saidโ€ฆ it was the push I needed. And Iโ€™m grateful for that.โ€

Vladyaโ€™s eyes lit. โ€œSo, the bond is really back? You can feel it?โ€

โ€œI can.โ€ Daemonikai smiled, placing a hand to his chest. โ€œRight here.โ€

โ€œYou left it open? Youโ€™re not shielding?โ€ Vladya chuckled. โ€œThatโ€™s not very responsible of you, Grand King Daemonikai.โ€

Hearing his own past reprimands thrown back at him wasnโ€™t the most enjoyable experienceโ€“but Daemonikai owned it with a grunt. โ€œGive me a damn break. I havenโ€™t felt this bond in ages.โ€

Tradition dictated a Urekai never left their bond open outside of private quartersโ€“whether with a partner or bloodhost. In public, shielding was required. Leaving it open meant exposure; feeling your bondedโ€™s emotions in real-time could easily distract from court matters and other daily obligations.

โ€œYouโ€™ll have to shield once we step into court,โ€ Vladya reminded.

โ€œI know. Itโ€™s only still open because Emerielโ€™s sleeping.โ€

โ€œI understand,โ€ Vladya waved off. โ€œI was just messing with you.โ€ Then he grew serious. โ€œCongratulations, Daemon. I know how much this meant to you.โ€

Daemonikai gave a silent nod, mouthing a soft thank you. โ€œWhen your rituals are completed, and your soul is restored, youโ€™ll also get to feel your bond to Aekeira in its fullest, pulsing, purest form. Everything youโ€™ve been missingโ€ฆ itโ€™s only a matter of time.โ€

โ€œOnly a matter of time,โ€ Vladya echoed, though quieter. โ€œWe just have to pray the Oracle survives. The ritual can only continue if she does.โ€

Daemonikai gave another solemn nod. The Oracle was still fighting for her life. Bringing Zaiperโ€™s sins to light had shattered seventy bones in her body, the first and most extreme case of its kind. Some had already lost hope, but Daemonikai refused to give up.

He had summoned the oldest and most skilled healers, the best shamans across Urai and beyond. For two months, they had tried every method: treatments, blood rituals, and enchantments. But still, her selfโ€“healing abilities had not activated. Without that, her bones would remain unhealed, and she could not survive.

A week ago, one of the elder shamans had formally requested permission to perform the Happy Repose ceremonyโ€“a ritual meant to ease a soul into the afterlife.

Daemonikai had denied it.

He would not surrender her to death. Not yet.

Aekeira was in the gardens when she saw her.

She dropped the watering can the moment Emeriel stepped through the archway. โ€œEm? Iโ€™ve been waiting for you! I needed to show youโ€“โ€

But before she could finish, Emeriel walked straight into her arms, pulling her into a tight hug, as close as their protruding bellies would allow.

โ€œKeira,โ€ Emeriel whispered into her sisterโ€™s neck, โ€œIโ€™m so happy.โ€

Aekeiraโ€™s arms circled her instantly. โ€œOh, honeyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œEverything is okay in my world again.โ€ Joy made her voice shake.

Aekeira pulled back slightly, hands cupping her sisterโ€™s face, a wide smile breaking across her features. โ€œOh my Gods, Em, you have no idea how happy I am to hear that.โ€ She blinked rapidly. โ€œSo you were able toโ€ฆ?โ€

Emerielโ€™s radiant smile answered everything. โ€œOh yes.โ€ She was glowing now, utterly beaming. โ€œLast nightโ€ฆ and this morning. Keira, it was beautiful. The most beautiful.โ€

A relieved laugh burst from Aekeira as she pulled her in again. โ€œYou donโ€™t know how worried Iโ€™ve been these past few months. I didnโ€™t want to pressure you or speak on it too much, but Gods, Emโ€ฆ I was afraid, that maybe you two wouldnโ€™t overcome it, that you might go through this whole pregnancy without that intimacy, without that closeness returningโ€ฆโ€ She held her tighter. โ€œBut it happened at last, Iโ€™m so glad. You two are back, stronger than ever.โ€

Emeriel clung to her. โ€œAnd our bond is back,โ€ she whispered to her sisterโ€™s shoulder. โ€œI feel him again, Keira. I feel us.โ€

Aekeiraโ€™s arms tightened, voice choked. โ€œThen all really is right in your world again.โ€ She kissed Emerielโ€™s temple. โ€œCongratulations, my dear sister.โ€

โ€œThank youโ€ฆโ€

Lacing their fingers together, Aekeira tugged her. โ€œForget working today, letโ€™s spend the day relaxing, celebrating this miracle. Just you and me.โ€

Emeriel laughed, her heart full. โ€œOh, sure. Okay.โ€

Both of them walked handโ€“inโ€“hand from the garden, souls light and spirits lifted, to enjoy this joyful day.
