Chapter 49
Andrew's wine, in its unlabeled bottle, looked unimpressive compared to the luxuriously packaged bottles typical of fine wines. Its plain presentation was, naturally, taken rather lightly.
Irene snapped, "Andrew, you're such a fool! We're being generous by including you in our dinner, but Dad's too distinguished to drink your cheap wine. Remove that embarrassment from our table!"
Andrew remained calm. "This is an exceptional wine," he said. "I've brought it to Mr. Stevens Senior many times, and it's been beneficial for his health."
Leroy clicked his tongue. "Exceptional wine? You're full of it, Andrew. Harvey, show him what real premium wine looks like."
Harvey smiled modestly. "It's fine. Mr. Stevens Senior seems to enjoy Andrew's wine."
Irene chuckled. "Harvey, you're too humble. Some people don't even come close to your class."
Another family member added, "Harvey's wine is absolutely top-shelf. I saw the bottles earlier; they're truly exquisite."
Leroy, having already placed several bottles on the table, presented them to Douglas. "Grandpa, let me show you the fine wines Harvey brought. Any one of these outclasses that swill!"
Irene, feigning wine expertise, exclaimed, "Wow! They're all such prestigious brands! Harvey, this must be the legendary '82 Lafite, right?"
Christina, embarrassed, said, "Mom, please stop. You clearly don't know wines. The '82 Lafite is practically impossible to find these days. Stop believing everything you read online."
Irene huffed. "Who says it's impossible? In all those novels, the rich kids drink '82 Lafite like it's water!"
Douglas spoke up, "Harvey's wines are fine, but at my age, I prefer Andy's wine to these famous labels."
Irene protested, "Dad, how can you say that? Harvey thoughtfully brought these for you. Is some outsider more important than your future grandson-in-law?"
Harvey smoothly intervened, "It's perfectly fine, Mrs. Stevens. My family owns several wineries. I'll have some local wines sent over tomorrow that might suit Mr. Stevens Senior's taste."
Irene beamed. "Dad, did you hear that? Harvey's family owns multiple wineries! If you want local wines, he'll provide plenty."
The Stevens family members nodded approvingly, impressed by Harvey's generosity. In contrast, they considered Andrew's offering cheap and beneath their standards.
