Chapter 163
After a moment's hesitation, Christina said, "Harvey, I have some questions. If you're uncomfortable answering, I won't press you."
Harvey's heart skipped a beat, but he forced a smile. "Christie, darling, ask anything. I've always been completely honest with you."
Andrew secretly scoffed, realizing Christina had finally noticed some of Harvey's suspicious behavior. It was no longer his concern.
"Tony mentioned you owed him millions when he kidnapped me," Christina said carefully. "Harvey, is that true?"
Harvey immediately denied it. "Absolutely not. Tony is a common thug. As a member of the Weller family and Jayrodale's elite, I wouldn't even speak to someone like him, let alone owe him money."
Irene chuckled. "Christie, you silly girl! The Wellers are old money; Harvey was born into it."
The other Stevens family members chimed in, agreeing that Harvey's wealth was substantial and the Weller fortune vast. They emphasized the family's immense wealth and influence within Jayrodale's high society, making the idea of Harvey owing money absurd.
Christina, swayed by their remarks, began to think Tony had been lying. Harvey's privileged background suggested money was the least of his concerns.
"Still, Harvey, be careful. A crime lord like Tony might target you," she warned.
Harvey waved his hand dismissively. "An East Side gang leader isn't worthy of challenging me. Besides, the East Side gang and Tony have been eliminated."
Christina was shocked. She had witnessed Tony's strength and considered him nearly invincible. "Tony's been killed? Who did it?"
Irene declared proudly, "Harvey, of course! When he learned Tony had taken you, he was furious and immediately used his family connections to save you. Even Mr. Yates got involved. I heard Tony begged for mercy, but Harvey showed none and ordered his execution."
Irene's vivid account portrayed Harvey as an almighty hero.
Christina remained skeptical. "Mom, is that really what happened? Are you sure you're not making this up?"
Irene frowned. "How could I make it up? Harvey told us himself. Leroy and everyone else heard it too."
Leroy grinned proudly. "That's right, Christie. I had to beg Harvey to tell me the details. The Weller family's influence is truly incredible."
A young woman from the Stevens family gushed, "Mr. Weller is so accomplished, like a movie hero! Christie, I'm so jealous you found such a brave man!"
Suddenly, Andrew's voice cut through the praise. "If he's so incredibly powerful, then why did her calls go unanswered when she was in danger? Were you hiding somewhere, trembling in fear?"
