Chapter 759: A Long Sleep
After showering, Little Bunny waited in the bedroom, but Theodore hadn't appeared. Perhaps he was joking, she thought. Leaving the room, she found the nanny, Kyla, standing outside her son's door, looking confused.
"Kyla, why are you here? What about my son?"
"Master Theodore said he wanted to stay with the baby alone, so I left. But I worried he wouldn't know what to do if the baby woke and cried. That's why I'm waiting."
Little Bunny nodded. She acknowledged Kyla's diligent care, which had freed her from the burden of constant childcare, allowing her time to recover her figure. The Wolds had treated her well; another marriage might not have been so kind.
Sighing, she abandoned the thought of abandoning her role as Mrs. Wold. Everything felt right now. Carefully opening the door, she saw Theodore and the baby sleeping soundly together.
For the first time, she felt a true sense of family connection. For so long, she'd felt the baby wasn't truly Theodore's, given his limited involvement. This moment profoundly touched her.
Both were still asleep as she entered. Before, she'd held little hope for her marriage, but now, her perspective shifted slightly. After all, she lacked the power to refuse it.
Theodore awoke to the darkness, momentarily disoriented. Sitting up, he realized he was at home, asleep with his son.
"Damn," he muttered. Where was his son?
He leapt up to find Little Bunny playing with the baby on a mat. The baby was attempting to roll over, his chubby frame surprisingly agile. Little Bunny clapped in encouragement, echoed by the nanny. He felt a surprising attachment to this family scene.
In contrast to his childhood, marked by silence and frequent arguments with his father, his heart raced at the sight of Little Bunny and their son. Had Oscar and Hannah's divorce sparked this reflection on his own family?
He approached; Little Bunny looked up, noticing his rumpled appearance. He was a handsome man, but rarely prioritized his appearance, preferring inner charm over outward polish. His current state was amusingly dishevelled.
Little Bunny made no comment; she still held him in awe and respect.
"Master Theodore," she said formally.
He frowned, but didn't care about her address.
"When did he wake up?" His voice sounded odd, as if he felt abandoned.
"Hours ago."
"Why didn't you wake me?"
"You looked very tired. I let you sleep. You slept for over five hours."
He doubted it, confused.
"Even if you didn't want to wake me, you should have let me know. It's not your decision when I wake up." His tone was sulky. His feelings towards Little Bunny were complex.
"Okay," she replied.
"Have you finished dinner?" he asked.
"Yes."
"Yes?" He raised his voice, startling Little Bunny and the baby. "You finished dinner without me?" He sounded annoyed.
"I didn't know when you'd wake. You were sleeping soundly. It's after nine nowโฆ" she explained timidly, motivated by her reliance on his financial support.
"You should have woken me," he grumbled.
"Yes, next time," she murmured, head bowed. Despite his grumbling, he found her demeanor pitiful and too appealing to reprimand further.
After a pause, he said, "Tell them to serve me dinner."
"Okay," she nodded. She'd already instructed the servants, though she hadn't waited to dine with him. Regular meals were crucial for her breastfeeding.
Dinner arrived promptly, all his favorites, yet he ate with little appetite despite his hunger. He'd dined alone most of his life, avoiding his father's criticism of his table manners. Now, solitude at dinner felt strange.
He looked at Little Bunny, her smile radiating charm and maternal warmth as she held the baby.
"Damn," he muttered, his appetite vanishing.
A servant cautiously asked, "Master Theodore, is something wrong with the food?"
He should have enjoyed it; it was all his favorites. He glanced at the servant and murmured, "I fancy some bunnies."
The servant paused, surprised. Theodore had never requested bunnies before, but she realized he meant Little Bunny.
"Should we prepare bunny dishes, Master Theodore?" she asked.
"Bunnies are cute! How could you kill them?" Theodore retorted.
The servant was utterly bewildered.
