Chapter 230: Emotions Triumph Over Wealth
Deborah was too furious to even acknowledge her son, brushing past Manny as she stormed out of the Quixall residence. Jesse moved to chase after her, but Manny blocked his path.
“Mr. Ferlito, what are you doing? Can’t you see my mother just ran off?”
Manny’s expression remained serenely calm. “Mrs. Quixall will be fine. I’ll send someone to find her shortly. Mr. Jesse, our priority now is bringing Ms. Quixall home to the Xiques family. As her brother, your presence would help ease her transition.”
Jesse scowled. “Is this really the time? My sister has lived here for twenty-five years! Uprooting her so suddenly would be cruel!”
Manny smiled confidently. “That won’t be an issue. Mr. Xiques has purchased three mansions for Ms. Quixall and handpicked two hundred servants for her. Additionally, all Xiques-owned department stores will grant her unlimited access. She may take anything she desires, regardless of value.”
Jesse’s jaw dropped. The Xiques empire had expanded globally, with subsidiaries in nearly every major city worldwide. They had dabbled in various industries, and the number of shopping malls under their control was countless. Every mall had its own “priceless” item that was not for sale. There was a time when a wealthy individual was willing to shell out three hundred million to purchase a gown that was labeled as not for sale. However, Harris simply would not agree to it. He said that display-only items were just for show, and no matter how much money anyone offered, he would never sell them.
For Manny to now promise “unlimited access” meant Harris was offering something truly extraordinary. All this for a daughter he’d never met?
Yelena’s heart raced. Every socialite dreamed of wearing “Angel.” They had even competed amongst themselves in private, declaring that whoever managed to acquire that gown would be the true princess of high society. Harris remained unmoved. No matter how many benefits others promised him, he simply wasn’t interested. As a wealthy heiress herself, Yelena had begged her father to acquire it. Left with no other choice by his daughter’s incessant pleading, George had pulled strings to contact the Xiques family. Despite all attempts, Harris remained stubborn, absolutely refusing to sell Angel. Because their love was far more important to him than money, he refused to sell it no matter what.
Knowing Harris’s personality, George knew there was no way he would change his mind. He gravely advised Yelena to let go of her fixation on that evening gown, reminding her that the Quixall family lacked the influence to sway the Xiques family. Yelena was sorely disappointed, but there was nothing she could do. Well, that was that.
Yet now, Manny had shown up at her doorstep, claiming that Harris wanted to acknowledge her as his daughter, and even offered her unrestricted access to all his shopping malls. How could she not be moved by such an offer? For a fleeting moment, Yelena imagined leaving with him, ascending to a status beyond her wildest dreams. But her father’s grim expression anchored her back to reality.
Never mind. An evening gown is not worth abandoning my family.
“Mr. Ferlito, I am a Quixall. This is my home, and I won’t be going anywhere with you. You should leave.”
