Revenge Forged in Prison
Chapter 185: Show It Through Actions
The aftermath of his mistake resulted in Joseph, his body covered in injuries, being dragged by his father to the Quixall residence. He was made to incessantly apologize to all the elders present. George was just the first; others awaited his apology, including Ivan, Shreya, and Raquel.
His eyes, previously dull, began to light up subtly. He was about to inquire about Raquel’s whereabouts when he was met with a stern glare from his father. The words he wanted to say got stuck in his throat, never to be voiced.
After he got up, Ivan and Shreya hurried over. Upon meeting, Ivan was seething with anger. “Mr. Joseph, you certainly carry yourself with great audacity. On our very first encounter, you touched my daughter’s hand and then continued to threaten her. The Levinson family may not be as prestigious as yours, but we’re not a stepping stone for just anyone! If you have such little regard for my family, you could have openly destroyed us. Why resort to tormenting my precious daughter?”
Joseph was left speechless. What could he say? Although it was true that Raquel had seduced him first, he had already confessed to his father. How could he possibly go back on his word now? The events of today could only conclude with him admitting his guilt. To place the blame on Raquel would cause discord among their families.
After much thought, all he could manage to say was, “I was wrong. It was all my fault.” His father gave him a kick from behind. “Is an apology enough? Show it through your actions!”
And so, Joseph bowed deeply several times, showing no signs of stopping. “Mr. Levinson, Mrs. Levinson, I’m the one to blame. It’s all my fault. Please don’t hold it against Raquel. She was forced into this situation. All this time, I’ve been threatening her. She was too scared to tell you the truth, and that’s why she’s had to endure so much.”
At this point, he felt incredibly stifled. Despite it not being his fault, he was the one who had to grovel and apologize, while Raquel had nothing to do. Moreover, she was about to become Jesse’s wife. Judging from Ivan’s and George’s attitude, Raquel had, from the very beginning, shifted the blame onto him, clearly intending to make him bear all the responsibility.
Am I just a backup plan to Raquel? What did all those years we spent together in secret actually amount to?
When Ivan saw Joseph’s sincere apology and his refusal to shirk responsibility, his anger somewhat subsided. However, he still felt somewhat frustrated. No matter what, this situation had escalated significantly. If Jesse decided not to marry Raquel in the future, then Raquel’s life would be ruined. No man will ever want to marry a woman who’s fickle. She can never clear this stain in her lifetime.
Shreya didn’t want to forgive Joseph either, but for the sake of her family, she compromised. “Since it’s all in the past, let’s leave it there. As long as you don’t mess up again and keep a respectful distance from Raquel, we won’t bring this up again.” Her words were spoken gently, yet her attitude was unyielding.
Joseph revealed a bitter smile. “Yes, Mrs. Levinson. I understand.” With that, everything came to a satisfying conclusion. Terry declined the invitation to dine at the Quixall residence, leading his son toward the exit.
Despite his disappointment, Joseph couldn’t let go. Before he left, he took one last longing look back. However, Raquel was currently engrossed in rekindling her relationship with Jesse. How could she have the time to bother with him? In the end, he could only leave with his father, carrying a heart full of disappointment.
