Chapter 149: Thank You
Caleb let out a sigh. “If it hurts, just tell me. There’s no need to be reserved.”
Upon hearing these words, Gianna felt her heart pounding wildly. What does he mean by that? Does he have feelings for me?
Before she could respond, Caleb asked again, “Do you have your ointment with you?”
Blinking, Gianna listlessly brought out the ointment. “Here it is.”
“Okay.”
Caleb acknowledged with a hum, then lowered his head, diligently applying the ointment to her hand. Although he was a man, the way he applied the ointment was incredibly meticulous, bordering on tender. Gianna couldn’t help but wonder if she was in heaven. Otherwise, Caleb wouldn’t have been so gentle with her.
Feeling a bit dizzy, Gianna steadied her head with her right hand, a faint throbbing pain emanating from the spot she had just bumped into.
After applying the ointment, Caleb asked with concern, “Does your head hurt too? The noise earlier was quite loud.”
Gianna’s cheeks flushed a subtle shade of pink as she quickly dismissed his concern. “No, it doesn’t hurt at all… I was careless. It has nothing to do with you, Caleb.”
Caleb remained silent, his gaze shifting back to the carnations displayed by the window. “Is this flower from you?”
When he woke up, he was greeted by a whiff of floral fragrance, undoubtedly originating from the bouquet of carnations.
Gianna gave a slight nod. “I bought them just this morning. I had to step out for a bit at noon, and when I returned, I heard someone causing a commotion in the ward.”
She added with remorse, “Caleb, I’m really sorry. I shouldn’t have been away for so long. You woke up to such a mess, and it must have upset you.”
Caleb shook his head. “It’s not your fault. Even if you were here, they would have come anyway.”
Her absence was actually a good thing. Upon realizing that someone was standing up for her, they would undoubtedly gang up on her.
Caleb had just woken up, feeling somewhat weak. Thus, he was uncertain if he could protect her.
Before this, she had always been hoping for him to wake up. But now that he had done so, she found herself at a loss for words, only able to maintain an awkward silence.
Sigh, if only Mr. Langford were here, he could have eased the tension, preventing the atmosphere from becoming so awkward.
Gianna simply couldn’t bear it any longer, fearing that Caleb would press her for the reason behind her injury. She hastily made up an excuse, ready to make her escape.
From the moment she had entered, Caleb hadn’t asked about the car accident. She thought he was traumatized by it, so she deliberately avoided the topic.
Who would have thought that at the very moment she was about to step out of the hospital room, she distinctly heard two words: “Thank you.”
She turned around in surprise, only to see that he had already closed his eyes and fallen asleep, looking utterly peaceful.
After her initial shock, joy blossomed in her heart. In no time at all, it had fully bloomed. The hardships she had endured after he had fallen into a coma seemed to be nothing at all.
The heat radiating from the hand that had been treated with ointment was almost unbearable. She covered her face with one hand, and with an air of bashfulness, she ran off.
“Ms. Sher-” Norman stood there, dumbfounded. He was holding the nutritional supplements she had asked him to buy. He glanced back at the open door; Caleb had already fallen asleep peacefully.
In that fleeting moment, he understood something. With a smile, he scratched his head and brought the nutritional supplements into the ward. Gently closing the door, he chuckled. “I must be getting senile. I almost interrupted Ms. Sherman’s lucky break.”
Suddenly, his expression turned melancholy. “Although there’s some progress in her relationship with Mr. Jenkins…” This kind of thing won’t happen again because she will be sent abroad by Mr. Sherman.
