Revenge Forged in Prison
Chapter 135: Why Will She Not Let Him Go
Yelena’s pupils constricted sharply as she was left utterly speechless. Confused by Gianna’s intentions, Deborah mistakenly thought Yelena was being threatened by the former. Shielding Yelena behind her, Deborah wore an angry expression. “Gia, I failed to help you yesterday. You have every right to be upset with me. But Yelena didn’t provoke you; why are you threatening her?”
A smug smile played at the corners of Gianna’s lips. “Did I threaten her? If she hadn’t done something she knew was wrong and was caught red-handed, why would she be afraid?”
“You… You…” Deborah was never one for arguments, so she found herself at a loss for words. With a complex look in her eyes, Yelena glanced at Gianna, choosing not to respond. She quietly took a seat, observing Caleb.
Caleb was seen lying on the hospital bed, his face deathly pale. His silence was so eerie that it felt frightening. For the past five years, he had been serving time in prison, without any contact with his family. However, after he returned, he was at odds with his family at every turn. Nearly everyone who cared about him was left heartbroken by his actions.
Being constantly angered, Yelena had, surprisingly, become accustomed to the feeling. All day yesterday, she had shut herself in her room. Not once did she visit Caleb. Although she did nothing significant that day, she felt an overwhelming emptiness within herself. It felt as though something had been forcefully ripped from her body, causing a heartache so intense that it left her suffocated. She thought, if only she hadn’t done what she did, Caleb wouldn’t have been hit by her father’s car, which resulted in him spending the rest of his life staring at a cold, unfeeling ceiling. However, regret was a futile exercise. What was done was done, and no one could turn back time.
“Caleb…” Yelena held Caleb’s hand, silently apologizing in her heart. Her tears seemed to have a mind of their own, trickling down her cheeks before she knew it.
“Ahem… Yelena, don’t cry anymore. I have already hired the best doctor. We’ll be able to bring Caleb home for treatment very soon.”
All of a sudden, George walked in unannounced. Upon hearing these words, Gianna immediately got up. “No, that’s not acceptable! Caleb must be transferred to my family’s private hospital, not sent back to the Quixall residence to suffer!”
“It has only been a few days, and they have already turned Caleb into his current state. If he were to return to the Quixall residence, there is no telling if I would even get to see him again.” Therefore, no matter what George said, Gianna would never allow him to take Caleb away.
George wore a smile that obviously lacked sincerity, a sharp glint hidden within his eyes. “Ms. Sherman, you just dealt with Jesse’s fiancée yesterday, and today, you’re causing trouble for my other son. What on earth are you trying to do?”
Gianna stood her ground. “It was Raquel who started it by bullying me. My retaliation is fair and justified.”
“What has Caleb done to you this time? Why wouldn’t you let him off the hook?” These words left Gianna rather taken aback. What does he mean by me refusing to let Caleb off the hook? Aren’t they responsible for Caleb’s current state?
Suppressing her anger, Gianna retorted, “When Caleb was lying alone in a pool of blood, it was I who saved him. Mr. Sherman, you claim to care for Caleb, but where were you when his life was hanging by a thread?”
