Chapter 442: Whenever I Think Of Her, She Appears
โIโll do it,โ Cheryl declared.
Seeing her motherโs distress, Cheryl took charge. She stepped forward, signed the surgical consent form, and then turned to her mother. Seeing the worry etched on her motherโs face, she softly comforted her, โMom, donโt worry. Dad is a good man, and good things will come his way. He will be alright.โ
โYeah, Mom, Dad will definitely get better,โ Caleb added, offering Scarlet comfort.
Left with no other choice, Scarlet could only nod, hoping for the best. Otherwise, losing Rupert, her lifelong companion, would be unbearable.
Cheryl sighed, feeling profoundly helpless. She knew her mother wouldnโt recover until her father did. And all of this was Janessaโs fault. Had she not stirred up trouble, Rupert wouldnโt have collapsed. If not for Janessa, their family wouldn't be facing this misfortune. Therefore, Cheryl was determined to make Janessa pay.
Cheryl asked Caleb to stay with their mother, then left to find the doctor. From afar, she called out, โDoctor, wait!โ
The doctor turned, puzzled. โMiss, is there something else you need?โ
โYes,โ Cheryl nodded earnestly. โCan you tell me what caused my fatherโs poisoning? What drug was involved?โ
The doctor seemed troubled. โAfter all, this medicine is banned. The fewer people who know, the better.โ
Cheryl, understanding his predicament, pulled him to a secluded area. โDoctor, my fatherโs condition deteriorated because of this drug. I need to know what it is. Do you understand?โ she pleaded.
The doctor, after being discreetly pressed by Cheryl, revealed the details of the drug. Cheryl thanked him and left, immediately arranging a meeting with Madelyn.
Madelyn was free, and they quickly found a cafรฉ. Once seated, Cheryl whispered, โMadelyn, Iโve uncovered the drug Janessa used to harm my father! That despicable woman gave him banned medication, forcing him to seek treatment abroad.โ
Madelyn remained composed. โJanessa is extreme; thereโs hardly anything she wouldnโt do.โ
โExactly! We had her locked up last time, but her aunt bailed her out. Janessa then went to the company and caused a ruckus; I was nearly choked to death!โ Cheryl said angrily, touching her neck, still shaken by the trauma.
Madelyn laughed, then grew confused. โDid you say Janessa was released?โ
โDonโt you know?โ Cheryl exclaimed, โI canโt believe her aunt bailed her out!โ
Madelynโs expression darkened. She knew Janessa would be released, but not so swiftly. Indignation filled her. How could Janessa be freed after everything sheโd done?
โHer aunt is the reason she acts with impunity, right?โ Madelyn said, her eyes darkening. โI bet a relative taught her to drug your father. Otherwise, where would she get the idea?โ
โMmm-hmm, it seems thatโs the case,โ Cheryl agreed, a sense of disappointment washing over her. โBut even knowing Janessa is responsible and the drugโs name, we lack evidence. We donโt know where she got it, so how do we investigate further?โ
โNo, we must continue,โ Madelyn declared seriously. โJanessa is bold because of her aunt, but does she think Iโm helpless?โ
Madelyn then revealed a confident smile. โActually, I know someone who can trace this illegal drug. Cheryl, let me handle this. Iโll inform you immediately if thereโs any news.โ
โAlright, thank you,โ Cheryl replied, feeling unprecedented reassurance. With Lockhart Groupโs backing, she felt no unease.
Madelyn immediately called Septimus. Illegal drugs werenโt openly available, but they could be found on the black market. She had no choice but to seek Septimusโs help.
Septimus, currently enjoying a winning streak at a gambling table in the black market (excluding his one loss to Madelyn), found Madelynโs call amusing. The thought of having lost to a young girl intrigued him. The moment he thought of her, she appeared.
